The information from AR 2015 (ASW2020) stated that dividends received would not be taxed due to the single tier taxation practice since 2008..
As such, I believe that the exemption on tax for income distribution would not longer be an issue..
The final paragraph under the heading on 'Taxation' in the AR, upon translation, basically said :-
If the Unit Trust is paying out dividends following the 'First Tier Taxation' System, then no claim against the taxes paid can be made anymore since there is no tax deducted against the dividends at the source of the payout.
This is a general statement applied to all dividends paid out in Malaysia, after the amendments done against the Income Tax Act 1967.
As for the dividends paid out at the end of a Financial Year of a particular fund distributed by the ASNB, some of the dividends are carry-overs from previous years, and some are 'first-tier' dividends paid-out by companies that the PNB invests into.
