Hi all, need advice on whether should I get the Sony A6000. Currently, I am using Canon 550d with 15-85mm, thinking of getting a lighter and smaller camera so that it is more convenient when travelling. Most of the time, I will be using the camera for traveling and sometimes I do go some landscape shooting with my friends. In terms of image quality and low light performance, which will be better? Other than Sony A6000, any other suggestions around the price range of A6000? Thanks.

IQ & low life performance got nothing to with slr/ mirrorless.. sensor is what matter. If I need to change my camera I 'll go for mirrorless i.e. sony due to smaller body ( but still bulky lenses).

Im in the same boat with ts, same 550d thinking changing into mirrorless.
Currently interested in A5100...A 6000 macam long time and A6100 might be better but so far only rumour.

550D on 15-85 is at 24mm FOV. I don't know if Sony has a lens that wide for APS-C but if you're fine with whatever is available then it's good to go.

550D with 15-85 is a rather heavy setup, an A6000 with basic zoom lens is much lighter and compact.

Would suggest not to think too much about a6100. It most likely be a7000 and will cost a bomb like a7rii with 4k video tech in it.

I'll go for a mirrorless anytime.
Had a DSLR for 3 months and sold it off as it's heavy to lug around for travelling.
Bought a Sony NEX5 to replace it and now changed to a 5100.
The 5100 16-50 kit lens is even smaller then the 18-55 kit lens of the NEX5.
I also bought a 55-210 lens for travel.
Because it is light, I can also put in on a selfie stick for selfies and use the iPhone app to click.

If you don't plan to change lenses you can check out the Panasonic LX100. I think this one is one of the best travel cameras.

technological speaking, the A6000 is few miles ahead of 550D, in many terms of image quality output. heck its even has more advantage over 700D, even in video mode or any camera at the same price range. the only camera at similar pricing that comes close to it is his sister, the A5100.

you wont regret buying A6000. but you might have some trouble and need more time getting used to it only.
