A friend requested I help him get an electric guitar for his son.

He brought me to cash converters to check the guitars out.

In the end I discouraged him from buying those stuff there because...

1. The new stuff are extremely poorly made, very bottom low end garbage of the Chinese manufacturing, simply slap any neck to questionable body.
2. very poor workmanship, chipped wood almost along some part of the neck.
3. Improperly sanded necks.

For the used guitars.

1. All of them seems to be deliberately having a string removed to prevent you from properly testing them out.
2. Priced not that cheap even for a used guitar with some name, usually 400-500++ range, might as well add a bit more and buy new.
3. Rusted bridge, very poorly maintained, need some tech work before playable.

These guitars are in the price range of rm 250 to 350 for the new Chinese made unbranded ones, but the workmanship is really really shitty and I don't even want to guess how possible it is to properly setup/intonate them. They feel so bad at the hand I don't even want to play at all.

So in the end due to time/distance, I had no choice but suggest them to go to Yamaha and get some of non-yamaha stuff. (Even yamaha's own guitars are expensive).

Finally settled on a samick/greg bennett Malibu-1 for RM 680 (after discount). Over his budget but at least with a piece of mind and this guitar is easily setup and plays better than low end squiers.

Originally wanted to get a brazillian condor SSS strat for rm 400 or so but the item is hot and sold out, so we settled for the next affordable one, which is the samick.

So, anyone ever checked out those cash converters guitars and actually bought one ?

cash converters when they started used to have some good used guitars.

but cash converters has already turned into a junk store.
i also know then some staff have customers who would leave their numbers to be called if anything good comes in.

so its probably a combination of those 2 factors that u dont see anymore good stuff on display.
anyway way back when they first opened here i bought a couple nice guitars, and i know others who have too.

Yes.. I like bargain guitars. Brazillian Condor strat for rm 380 is ok for me, works mighty fine.

But the cash converter ones are horrendously bad even at the same price range.

That's why I rather my friend spend a bit more to get at least a Samick, since they've run out of condors (all sold out)

Agree. They used to have good and cheap stuffs. Remembered a friend bought a 5 string Warwick for rm500. He accidentally saw the item in the store room. When asked, the staff said the bass is very expensive, and that is rm500

Cash converters usually sell things 3 times the buying price.

However they got greedy and start to sell things for 'market value'.

The staff will look up eBay etc for the price, hence its no longer cheap. And of course, they will buy at much cheaper price. Say they got it at RM100, by right they should sell at RM300, but market sells at RM500..so RM500 it is then.

actually its been a long time since they looked up on ebay etc.
but that still doesnt explain how they sell.

i've seen a better guitar but in very worn condition, sell cheaper than some stupid china name guitar just cos it looks shiny and brand new tongue.gif
