Hi Bikers,

Planning to get my 1st Big bike..All these while been riding moped and for the last 2 year been riding clutch moped (125cc) to adapt/prepare myself into clutching motorcycle. Hv try ride friend 650cc naked bike once and the transformation from moped to 650cc bike feel ok. not much change except add weight whn idle but when moving, the weight are not that significant but feel very stable and safe indeed may be it is due to the weight.

MT 09 (RM47-RM50k) 890cc 1st Choice
have been eyeing MT 09 ever since it launch 2 years ago. love the style and very unlike any other bike.love the seating position which look relax. only concern about is the throttle response which magazine/online review claim are very snatchy. how snatchy is that? suitable for newbie like me? soft suspension is not a concern at all.

MT 07 (RM38-RM41K) 690cc 3rd choice
like the look of this too and feel more suitable for me (newbie) but it just look too small for me as my height is (5ft10) as the throttle response are very positive as what is review in magazine/online, just that it look miniture too me.

Versys 650 2015 (RM41-RM44k) 690cc 2nd choice
one of my favourite. however new model also added weight to ard 215kg if I'm not mistaken(the heavyiest) among all of the above. why i like versys,
1.fully adjustable front & rear suspension
2.better looking face, but I love the old looking face too
3.look big and better value, got lot of bike for the money.
may not that suitable to ride around town especially around traffic light. it is the best.

riding mode usage, 90% town riding, 10% long distance ride(seldom)

Any MT 09/MT 07/Versys owner willing to share your thouight?
Thank You.

like Xj6 too as it is 4 cyl but no offence can't bear the sight of the swing arm..look too ordinary,
CB650f like it too but not worth the money(expensive) for less spec. will feel like will get boring after 6 month of riding

obviously mt07 is out of ur list, u ur self ady give the reason.

personally i will go for mt09, cannot bear to look at the new versys head lights, too ugly at my opinion, still prefer the older ver design.

I love d new versys headlight design..it goes well with the re-designed fairing..and i can vouch for the reliability of versys..altho id still go with mt09 if i have to choose between the two..jiwa muda..normal.haha..

N about d ugly swing arm of the xj6..ive seen people replaced their swing atm with r6 swing arm..heck ive seen people transform the diversion into an r6..haha. But surely that came wit d cost. So mt09 is a good choice then..

mt09 is a good choice, but with bad front and back suspension, and the throttle is a little bit jerky on A mode(which is the fastest mode), and front brake is so-so only

the only thing what i like about mt09 is the weight...so light and comparable to triumph street triple

and the price currently 42k++ otr, 50k is the CBU version

ps; if i were you, i would buy 2nd hand z800 any day(32k++ currently), much2 better than mt09 in term of handling, suspension, brake(the best!!), and stability, the only thing that i don't really like is the weight which is 230kg, but when i bought it last time i can cilok in traffic no problem at all, just need that 'extra' work to do the cilok thing...NOT to mention the throttle response of z800 is damn smooth including the engine itself laugh.gif

since cb/r650f are out of your list, the one i think is the best(from your choice) is the mt09..lightweight, new chassis, almost horizontal rear suspension, inverted, best in both world engine..so, go for it since your budget allows..

i also in this kind of transformation but decided to pick up the cb650f..tested it and for me mt09 is too powerful..i mean the torque when you pulls, it's kinda too overwhelm for me..but it's a fun bike tho..biggrin.gif
also i dont like the meter size and placement, and key placement..or it's just me and my OCD..XD

Actually not only limit with these 3 but so far these 3 are bang for buck with BIG FUN & steep learning curve as main of the factor.

other favourite is:
KTM Duke 690/R
T. Street Triple / R
Ducati Monster 796
Ducati Hypermotard
BMW F800R
ER6N
Z800

so many poison around ... cry.gif

Just wait for MT-09 Tracer bro.

Versys lately have coil problem. My friend use Versys 1000 for 2 years and already got coil problem, damage RM500

MT-09 around RM78K for CBU. The CKD version coming in soon. Looking fwd to that 1 too.

MT-09 tk ok sbb naked. If u enjoy long distance, go for Versys 650.
Naked bike is for urban ride, city ride, go work.
For long distance not receommended.

Me just let go my Z1000SX cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

BUT Kawasaki, Yamaha, spare parts quite cheap if go Kang Kang workshop in Jln Ipoh
Tyre also cheap there

i had versys for two years..had to sell it cause having problems with the valve...

if it helps i think you have to consider your riding style

which one you prefer torque or top speed..

but u have stated there ur riding mode usage is town so bikes with more torque will entertain you more i guess..

versys will serve you good in long distance riding once you put some accessories to it (old model) with new model...u r good to go...with those big windshield..

so i think mt 09 is the best choice

For town use ,mt 07 will be better choice .

- cheapest
- light weight
- good handling especially on crowded road
-powerful on low rpm

I've always had a soft spot on the Versys, so my suggestion is to go with that too. Are you considering your pillions? If so versys is more comfy than your other two.

Btw, you only prefer >500cc? why not go for cb500x?

MT-09
Crossplane triple, fukkin awesome engine. Adjustable mapping. Wicked wheelie monster. But shit tank range, may make beginners pee in their pants when the front wheel reaches for the sky..

VERSYS 650.
Good commuter, adventure touring styling. But parallel twin.

MT-07
Successfully combines the shit tank range of MT-09 and the crap parallel twin sound of the Versys 650.

Me, I'd go for the MT-09.... but I have been riding big bikes for 15 years and already have a 400cc & 600cc bike waiting at home.

It all depends on you and what you really want.

me too have this problem... my first choice now cb650f .... 4 cylinder inline maybe the reason... will use it for 60km daily for work but not town riding.... national only....try not to be V Rossi, just smooth ride for work and punch card on time ... haha

xj6n, mt-07, f800r , z800 also in the list before....

so, just got my mt07 couple days ago.
A few problems I've realised:-

1. It is sometimes difficult to startup the engine especially during morning, need to give it a few try to get it started.

2. Engine gets extremely hot after riding about 20 minutes, to the point where if your leg accidentally touches the engine it burns.

3. The famous metal rattle sound does exists
watch it here to solve it

I've read about the engine get hot easily but didn't know to the point where it burns shocking.gif

coming from a scooter i've been riding for most of the years since i got my license at the age of 16, such big bikes really does give the ompphh!

Never really tested other similar category bike except for a KTM Duke250, but one thing for sure the MT-07 is one hella torky monster like its name suggest, Master of Torque.

At one point I was just testing its torque on a open road at 2nd gear and i unintentionally did a mini wheelie. Cornering takes a little bit of time to learn as the bike is quite heavy compare to a scooter. I just realised how nimble my scooter is when cilok in a busy traffic and the MT07 takes a little bit of learning to do so.

I haven't got any proper gear to fully test out the bike, in the sense that I feel it is so dangerous to speed on highway while I'm almost naked laugh.gif
No jacket, no proper boots, no gloves...Full face already done and it is a must.

Fuel consumption is awesome, had only used half a tank and able to reach 120km+ already.

Friends also ajak go here and go there ronda but in the meantime, will take some more time to bond with the bikes a little bit more first.

To be continue...

You should at least start with gloves.after that proper riding jacket, boot can come later n if you have Budget go for proper riding jeans/pants

When you fall(touchwood/hope it won't happen)the first thing you touch or landed on asphalt will be your palm.. I cannot imagine the injuries you going to inflict on yourself if it happen.

So when do you intend to get these safety gears?

In fact, you should be getting these first before getting a bike.

You'll never know when you gonna need it.

My advise to you, get them now. Don't wait.

Before I got my bike I do wear jacket and gloves but it is those cheap fabric ones. Thanks for reminding though. Safety do comes first

The MT-07 comes with the Engine temperature indicator, at optimum it is around 85-100C
Yes. That's correct.
85-100C is already hot to touch...thus it burns.

I'm riding CBR650F. I reason I choose the Honda against the MT-09 is due to a few reasons.

Of course the MT has higher HP (115HP vs 87HP), however it has shorter distance on per tank basis that means if you're riding with friends, you'll always need to refuel first.

Powerwise, I think 87HP is rather sufficient for day to day use or for touring. Unless you want to go track racing.

With fairing, in high-speed highway, It will be more comfort.

Riding position actually better than MT.

I like the look of it too..

But anyway. Based on your list... I'll go for MT09 ... no question.

Wah... Liddat sudah le. Everyone knows bout the upgraded suspension and quick shift that they added onto the new model, who wants to buy the old model... Unless they fire sale them.
