Just a poll to survey on how you guys manage your MP3 files.

Please stick to the topic only, you don't have to mention whether your songs collection is legal/illegal, where you download it etc.

Extra information like why do you tag your MP3s, how much time did you spend in doing it, what player are you using, do you have portable player like iPod/Zen/Zune etc are welcome.

Long time ago I didn't, then finally, I picked up mp3tag (nice simple tagging software) and went thru my entire music collection, tagging everything and fixing spelling and punctuation errors. Doing that at one go to almost 20GB of MP3s tooks quite a few days.

So now MP3Tag has full unicode support too?

That's interesting... Maybe I'll try it some other day

for the latest song, kept in each folder with the album name
for the older song, done part of the transformation to the latest order folder, and still have quite a lot to manage it manually

i listen to classical now
i juz sort those classical to the composer folder (eg. Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak......)
but didnt change the song title
juz edit it inside the WMP

if some classical that have many part
then will open another new folder under that composer work
(eg. Mozart > Requiem , Requiem got 14 part...)
other that juz have 3-4 part juz put under the composer folder

at this point, i should vote for what??
dunno which one have to vote for...

I use that mp3 player to even save the lyrics up...

I only make sure the mp3 got title, artist, album and genre so that i can play on my mp3 player...otherwise my stupid (sony) mp3 player won't play properly

atm, i dun manage my huge catalog at all

mebbe this thread will give me some idea on how to organise my catalogue

(although been using foobar2k to play, skip, search, randomize favorite song only)

...im a perfectionist...so everything hv to be in order...hehe...

I would hope to have latest songs collection that is managed and nicely tagged too, but I'll have to scarify a lot of time for it. Plus...I'm not a really BIG music fan (if I were, I already owned an iPod)

For me, I name it properly and tag it with basic info like Artist and Song name...that's it. Year, genre, album I don't usually bother

My old songs are a huge mess. Just dump em all in one folder, most renamed to the format Artist - Title but tags are hardly of my concern. New songs however, are placed in their respective album folders, most tagged nicely. Artist, title, album and track number are my main concern for tags

Well i have 3k songs, it is mad to do all.
I only do so for my latest song files, those oldies lazy to configure already.
It looks neat after you tagged all so I've tagged most of them (except oldies)
And I don't have any mp3 player.

will tag properly if is full album, with cover, and sorted properly.

if is misc songs, maybe just leave it and put under misc folder

i only have one folder of mp3 which contain about 300+ songs and this is because i only keep the song that i like, not copying full album kind of that..
and there are all properly name: artist - title

just trying keep it simple

I do my foobar2k player customizing so I will tag all mp3s properly and arrange according to mp3/artist/albums

Im using Tag & Rename, its unicode, easier manage english & Chinese file name & ID.

Time mah... average 10 seconds per file i think(for rename track ID & file name), if go for bulk much easier & faster.

arrange the folders according to artist then albums
have album arts/covers

finding 700+ covers is a tough job

I only tag song title and artist name.

i didn't tag, but i did rename and sort thingy, arrange it according ## - Artist - Track

That's me. Once download then whole album in single folder liao lo. then another folder = another album lo.

iTunes did it all for me.

I using itunes to manage my file.. Is work fantastic.. i just need to double click that file and reenter the details in itunes. then automatically it rearrange the file for me in the music folder.

But I think for those who are not familiar with iTunes, a backup is recommended, as everything will be changed without warning

It might turn up to be the way you don't want

i rename the file according to the type of language the song is in..0 for jpop/jrock, 1 for chinese etc etc...

using winamp to edit the tags...i started sorting everything out when i first got this com...been doing it ever since then...some more winamp can just jump to the desired song, convenient...

i just write the artist name and song
and then dump it into my music folder
that's all
when i wanna find a particular song,WMP11 can help me with the open file location feature

I use Godfather to organise my songs.

i used the free program from german software makers, mp3tagger...

my collection is properly organized, downloaded songs that i get from unknown sources go into a special folder before they are editted with tags, had their 'comments' removed, and renamed if necessary before they go into my Music folder..

i only fill up all the info for those music album collection... while the others just write down the name and artist

Any other votes? Quite an even poll so far although we can see most of the people do only some basic-tagging for their songs collection

Hello, i have this collection of albums.But i wanna sort it like with proper song names. Rite now mine are like song1.mp3 song2.mp3.Is there any tag software out there that look into web for the song titles and cover albums ?

all the naming are properly done like that..

just that i hav a lot more mp3 than u..

i just managed my songs according to artist - title and tag it using WMP along with album title and genre....dunno any other software to use for tagging mp3...

spend a lot of time though tagging every single mp3 song when u have more than 2000 songs...

i got 6 partitions and i dump all my music files into those six partitions w/o doing any further action , will be cataloging it soon hopefully

When I first hear MP3, I just put all file in 1 big folder..then after got my new rig, I finally realize why we need to tag out file properly.
Why? Easy for me to search the file that I want to hear, doesn't to see the long lasting list of file just to find 1 or 2 song....

I tag and list my song according to region, like International, Asian etc - artist - album...easy for me and my friend if they wanna search..
