Hi guys, wanna ask a question about my Nissin Di866 M2 flash. Using it on a D7k body. sometimes there is burnt smell coming out / smoke ( not those dark smoke ) sometimes after awhile of usage, sometimes during the first flash i fire. Just tried to fire it with various power, in ttl mode with +3.0 theres no smoke, with manual mode 1/2 and above there is. As for manual mode, for those lower power beam, the zapping sound will be there with every beam. For higher power like 1/2 the sound wont be there , but there is a mild pop sound. Followed by smoke. I've been using this flash for 2 years. Can i send it to technician to check ? if so where? thanks in advance |

It's normal for certain flashes to overheat and in some cases, catastrophically break down. |

Like gel or some kind of diffuser ? It's normal for certain flashes to overheat and in some cases, catastrophically break down. Does it means it is going to fail me one of these days ? Actually this incident happened long ago, jUz that i did not look into it purposely. Is it dangerous ? Thanks for the reply btw |

Even if you change it, I doubt the new one will be that much better.Does it means it is going to fail me one of these days ? However if you keep doing 1/1 flash for several minutes non-stop, then you may have an issue. That's why a lot of newer flashes have a cooldown period once the temp is too hot. |

I don't usually see that.it rarely occur with TTL mode, but with 1/1 mode then its like almost 100% will produce smoke and smell Best to send a mail to nissin. Not sure if they honor replacing a burnt flash tube under warranty. |

by standard, there shouldnt be any burn smell or smoke of any visibility unless you put a color gel(or highly flamable object) too close to the front head panel. obviously there is issue with your unit.
if i were you, save the embarrassment from suddenly explode in the middle of the job. grab a new one. |
