I'm from Sabah,
we here celebrate Independence Day on 31st August for Malaysia & 16th September for our state. So 31st August should be the right date. |

QUOTE(mcsiaw @ Sep 15 2015, 09:43 AM) Malaya independent on 31-8-1957 Well, 31 Aug is a sensible compromise for the purpose of a celebration.Sabah independent on 31-8-1963 Sarawak independent on 22-7-1963 MALAYSIA formed on 16-9-1963 31-8 is the right date for Malaya and Sabah independent, but definitely not for MALAYSIA Take the USA as an example. Do you see Americans bickering over whether July 4th should be independence day, since many states gained independence and joined the federation later? |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Sep 15 2015, 03:48 PM) Well, 31 Aug is a sensible compromise for the purpose of a celebration. The states were either conquered, annexed, created, expansion. Joined? wrong term. Since July 4, 1776, there is USA untill today. Take the USA as an example. Do you see Americans bickering over whether July 4th should be independence day, since many states gained independence and joined the federation later? Does Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak has the same fate as them? What is the path of Persekutuan Melayu (Federation of Malaya) , then Malaysia? Is our nationality Persekutuan Melayu? or Malaysia? Get history right. and never compare apple to orange: is totally different. This post has been edited by mcsiaw: Sep 15 2015, 08:53 PM |

If we're into idioms tonight, mine would be: don't lose sight of the forest for the trees Does Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak has the same fate as them? What is the path of Persekutuan Melayu (Federation of Malaya) , then Malaysia? Is our nationality Persekutuan Melayu? or Malaysia?
