Look at their DSLRs. Same issue. But DSLR photographers can opt to shoot RAW.
*
But but sony DSLR has been praised as best mirrorless DSLR?hahaha
Have to agree their menu system suck big time but as for mobile is quite ok.

Concerning mobile camera and based Z3 performance, IMHO sony produce nice colour, good dynamic range and focus with superb steadyshot (intelligent active mode).

But this a phone we talking about not a camera. There are also other + things on Xperia that i also love... ie battery life, front speaker, PS4 support, display and form factor. Yes the camera can be better (in fact it should be much better with it price tag and highly promoted features)

Hmmm battery endurance really does seems impressive. Hope is not that far off with the Z5 and Z5 premium.
*
Yeah. One of the main things I love about the compact series is the battery life. Although the Z5 Compact battery life suffers due to the SD810, it's still an impressive score. Better than the Z1 Compact.

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Oct 8 2015, 09:26 AM)
the main reason is Sony doesn't advertise as aggressive as samsung, also poor distribution, especially in the States.
also, price is another factor.

EDIT : anyway, as usual, Shit Arena again posting a click bait title. that author Alan F. is well known.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/07/...N0S10WR20151007

totally different from what reuters reported. doh.gif

+Newbie+ one of the few phones that able to tame the SD810. brows.gif
*
True. Sony advertising and marketing really sucks in comparison to Samsung. Heck, their penetration in the US market is rubbish and that is probably a killer.

They need to be more humble and more aggressive in their sales and marketing efforts.

And yeah, the Z5 series seems to be one of the few phones that can avoid being throttled too much. It seems the dual heat pipes really make a difference.

by the mentioned color, contrast etc?
have u ever read further and see how they break it down?
they even say the S6 has better exposure and contrast, but where the Z5 comes out ahead is in the flash...zzz.
http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Sony-Xperia...tofocus-results

its the avg of all...how they come up with the individual numbers then is anyones guess
http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Sony-Xperia...-scores-to-date

but so far looking at what is so far a top 35 list, i would say its pretty accurate overall.
what dx0 should do for mobile is to seperate out the photo and video into different lists, as the apparently better video taking capabilities of the sony gives it a higher overall score.
*
Err...I think you misunderstood what I mean when I said they never explain how they quantify those numbers. Yes, of course I'm aware of each components they tested. But each of the components are given individual score too. You yourself also said nobody knows how they come up with those individual numbers. doh.gif

E.g. 808 PV which is equipped with a powerful xenon flash scores 81 in flash component. Z3 (my current phone) which has a tiny LED scores 83.

IMHO all these numbers are ballpark numbers. The number doesn't reflect real world case. Maybe the way they test it is by using the same setting for all phone. In reality this is far from accurate. E.g. the 808PV may only need ISO250 to capture an image due to larger sensor. Z3 may need ISO400 or even higher. But the way they benchmark them may not be like this. It could be 808PV vs Z3 on the same ISO at native resolution.

Yes. But during Nikon D90 to D7000 era, its image quality beat Sony DSLR using the same sensor. Pentax did the same thing too. Sony DSLR had the same watercolor-like artifacts, exactly what we get for Xperia and they had those JPEG algorithms for years. I'm not sure about recent Sony DSLR though. I haven't been following. Maybe Sony had finally fixed them?

What you mentioned in the last paragraph basically summed up what my thought about Xperia Z series too. The battery life is great. Form factor is nice and water resistant. But the camera performance should be much better for the premium price tag they ask.

Well, don't need DSLR but their A6000, mirrorless camera has proven amazing.

So far the color rendering on Sony cameras are by far the best; the most natural compared to competitors.
I won't press much on details, as I don't like to zoom.
*
Yup Sony has always been the most accurate. Others look nice in pics but is not accurate at all.

Why not A5100? MK4 is kinda expensive for a point and shoot camera.

Well, I wished as well but the sensor size is extremely limited.

This I truly agree. That time I also source for DSLR and Sony is among the worst in output even with great sensor but can't output awesome quality as others using it sensor, for example Nikon.

Now I not sure as didn't follow or check already.

It could be good this time around. Never know. If you're a photographer maybe you can shoot some pics with the phone on display before you decide.

i remember sony said there will be a new camera app/UI later, and that the new UI will not be available in the initial release of z5 series. i just wonder if the new camera app will have better photo processing or not or just mere UI changes

Yeah, wait first because the sample images are excellent despite a little oversharpened.
Assuming that taken with new UI.

Read a few reviews (you can Google them) and so far not glowing.

Some of the negatives pointed out are battery not as great as previous Xperias and average for its class (ie. around G4, but not as good as S6), camera is good but not as good as S6/iP6, and speakers are so-so.

Considering the pricing will be premium, not sure the compromises will be worth it. Will wait for Nexus 6P reviews before deciding which one to go for.

Are you sure battery life of the S6 is good? It's complete poop. I've owned one. Max 3.5 hour SOT. the Z3+ I'm using now gives me 6.5 hours SOT, LTE only and still a 2 day-er

I have been waiting and hoping that this phone will be what it set out to be. Although the reviews of the camera aren't as good as the S6 (seems like Samsung will hold on to that title for a while more), the other features are still pretty relevant. Battery life although not the 2 days they claim seems to last a good day, much better than S6.
