Hi all any automotive photographer here? Anyone done any outing shoots (not within the house garden or anything)? When I was at Australia, I have done lots of outdoor shoots for cars (in the alley, car park, mountain, etc) and I dont have to worry about getting rob or anything. Anyone can share their experience here? How safe is it? I found a few location but I'm quite skeptical, as my camera will be mounted on the tripod and there will be strobes etc (will probably be there for quite some time as well). How risky is it? Just an example i took on a small hill by the road This post has been edited by kLvru: Sep 3 2015, 10:05 AM

I've done quite a bit of outdoor shots and safe to say, nothing has happened yet. Usually all I got are queries from curious passer-bys or some friendly honkings from other motorheads. Nissan X-Trail 2.5 4WD by Ken NJH, on Flickr However, it is still better to have someone else guard your equipment for you or someone else be the driver and you focusing on pressing the shutter button. Another thing is, always scout around the area first. If it feels not right then move to other place. Some carparks does not allow photoshoots without written permission because it is deemed as 'private place'. Ford Fiesta ST by Ken NJH, on Flickr and I'll stay away from alleys if I were you. Malaysian back alleys isn't the best place to shoot.

I'm planning to take a shot around evening with strobes/light painting, in which i will have to be around for a longer time (20 minutes to half an hour?). And it will also be a "higher profile" car, scare will attract unnecessary attention lol P.S Nice Fiesta ST Yours?

As usual, better be aware of your surrounding and it is better to have one or few friends around to keep an eye. Better if the friend is pursuing the same interest. VW Polo 1.6 MPI by Ken NJH, on Flickr Toyota Camry Hybrid by Ken NJH, on Flickr Regardless of car, once you do photoshoot on the street, it will attract people's attention. No, not my Sanitary Towel.
