It is true that difficult to backpack to Korea. Totally cant read and dont even know how to recognize their character. I can backpack to Japan as i can recognize the chinese character.
But only backpack will have the real fun. Anyone backpack to Korea before?

guys, my friend agreed to backpack.so happy, previously she wanted to go by agent. we might go there next January, now starting to save money & learn korean language

huiyin_hsu:welcome home
nejin:can you share your itineraries.maybe after you vacation there

nejin, please do share yr info with us. that link is the malaysian students in korea punyer link ka? i've heard about it. package E looks very interesting..
*
@xclent182> yeay...great! finally she agreed. January is winter already. Have to bring thick jacket. How i wish i cud experience winter.
of course i will share my itineraries later. Still in planning. biggrin.gif

@fazad> yeap, student malaysia...this is wat they reply me..

Sekian.."

the package cost me a lot more than i expected since it is for 5d4n only, and i have to pay more later, stay at another place since i travel for 8 days. They just give the general info so i decide not to take it.

and guys, u can try this. a few web where u can get a penpal or volunteer guide. couchsurfing.com and Hi!everywhere and its work. Couchsurfing people can provide u a place to sleep oso...Hi!everywhere is for volunteer tourguide.

I dun think so it's really hard to backpack overthere (even i'm still not experience it myself). It is true that there is a language barrier, but it's not logic la if they promote for tourist to come and they not even provide legend in english rite? U can always get a map, subway map in english. Go to KTO (at Menara Hap seng)...they will give u a broucher etc. My cousin backpacked and stayed overthere almost a year and it just fine.

u guys also can follow her, www.budgettravel2korea.blogspot.com. she put some information which is very useful for backpackers.

sfwong:when will you be backpacking to Korea?
shauyan:agreed.only backpacking will have the real fun
nejin:the link you gave is really helpful.I admire you cousin for doing that. Will you go to Jeju island.

FYI,we changed our plan from January to late March,my friend wants to exprience spring.i don't mine as long as we can travel there within the first quarter of next year.

I've gotten around Seoul (can't speak about other cities) perfectly well with just English. While the general populace may not speak English well, all the tourist spots/hotels have someone that speaks English. All subway signs/maps are in English as well. The bus network (most prevalent way to get around Greater Seoul) has English. What more can you ask for?
