Is there a minimum deposit amount for T-money? For 4 days trip and travel just within Seoul city area + tourist area, what is the best deposit amount? 90k won is like RM300...is it a bit too much? I'm taking airport limousine bus to Hongik Univ from Incheon airport

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Dec 21 2010, 02:29 PM)
This is a good experience to share. It is imperative to have a minimum cash in hand of 300K won upon arrival to over come contingency such as one have to take taxi due to late arrival, arrival on weekend, ATM card not compatible etc etc..

Currency rate aside, is Dangdaemun an expensive place to shop compared to others like Namdaemun and Myeondong?

QUOTE(shwuey @ Dec 21 2010, 08:27 PM)
shopping in Korea is not cheap.
went to dangdaemun, clothings are expensive.
not worth if you don't use it often.

for me, china is cheaper and lotsa design.
quality wise still acceptable.

QUOTE(stimix @ Dec 21 2010, 08:49 PM)
It's a little bit cheaper now bcos of stiong RM. last year or begining of the year when SK Won at ~ RM3.50, definitely everything from food & cloths are xpensive in Korea. Right now due to the advantges on currency it's cheaper now. hopefully the rate will drop further &thus food & etc will be affordeable for M'sian

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Dec 22 2010, 12:26 AM)
You guys neglected e-Mart and Lottle Mart. I think these two offers the cheapest Korean made merchandise.  Save the hassle of bargaining.

Nowadays a lot of accessories vendor in Malaysia are turning to Korean items. They're selling it for RM4 for earrings, hair accessories, etc, which you can find it at KL Sentral station. Here, based from this pic they're selling it for 1000 won (RM2.70). A little worth it, it's up to the buyer...

I'd rather buy the stuff you can hardly get in Malaysia, that's my rule of thumb of buying when you go travel. Slight price difference, don't care that much sweat.gif All these shopping topics, must ask girls one. Any ladies in this forum arr??? hmm.gif

QUOTE(zstan @ Dec 22 2010, 01:48 PM)

Apologies, meant no offense to anyone blush.gif. Have you been to South Korea before? Got any tips to share? I still have winter clothing dilemma - just bought an insulated pants yesterday and heck, it looks baggy on me. The good side is that it will keep me warm during ski-ing...downside is that it's just HUGE. Can jeans + thermal bottom tights + wool leggings be okay on me during my stroll around Seoul? I'm quite skinny cry.gif ...must have more inner layers

QUOTE(sophistafunk @ Dec 22 2010, 05:11 PM)
LOL. I'm female! Not true females seldom give travel tips and not true they only care about shopping overseas smile.gif I prefer sight-seeing and people-watching but of course hard to miss great bargains when you don't get to have the items locally rite? And not to forget, we ladies love to talk about food too!

Just read this, gonna visit in Feb : http://www.visitseoul.net/en/article/artic...3001004001&p=04

shopping in korea is cheap but only if you know wjere to shop. if you're shopping in dongdaemun, it will be damn expensive compared to namdaemun and myeondong.. and you should try the underground shops like gangnam underground shopping ctr or around Hongik and Ewha Women Univ, lots of fashionable items at a very cheap price.

thumbup.gif Agreed! icon_idea.gif Hongik eh? Oh yeaaah, I'll stay just around the corner. *noting it down*

I went to Winter Time recently, they have quite a few selections there.

Attached Image
Even insulated glove (buy one free one), I forgot how much. hmm.gif

They also sell super thick wool socks. I bought two pairs = 1 set, it costs me RM70+. Quite expensive..then I went to Sox World, they're selling it for RM35 for two pairs...D'OH! doh.gif I seriously think SoxWorld has the cheapest price for winter accessories, but you got to make sure that it's decently 'thick' enough for your needs.

Also, they have this one foldable card that is so super useful, filled with travel guide, checklist, countries winter temp, etc. Suggest you guys take one if you bumped to Winter Time rclxms.gif

When I was at Gapyeong, Gangchon & Chuncheon last Tuesday, the whole area already snowed a day earlier so whole area so white..But I missed the snow fall  cry.gif

Added on December 25, 2010, 11:55 pmGood Scarf or buff to cover can already but a good glove is also very important. Those cheap insulated polyester glove <RM40 is useless once temp dipped below  minus 5C!..leather insulated glove ~ RM70 & above is important if temp below -5C..well for me-lah..

Well its insulated (has dual layers), not the lousy wool/polyster type. Still, I haven't bought it yet, will eye around for a good one. Any thicker than this is the ski glove brows.gif which I think would look ridiculous on day to day wear. Will check out Going Places though, need second socks. Good advice rclxms.gif

QUOTE(stimix @ Dec 26 2010, 01:17 AM)
From the look at your glove, I dun think it's enough to endure anything lower than minus 5C haha..anyway you still can hide your hands inside the down jacket.

SOX world is cheaper than UT & Winter Time but for overall winter acc, Goin Places cheaper..Wool socks at RM19/pait & also the lousy wool & polyster glove that I got for RM19/pair too..

Added on December 26, 2010, 12:20 amWow..Now only realized Won & US$ getting cheaper..3.80 nia at Wawasan meaning Atria probably at 2.77 only...So lucky for those going soon...

Added on December 26, 2010, 12:02 pmSo you wore long woolen sweater underneath a down jacket, is it right?

Would it help if I wear underwear tights + wool socks + sneakers + leg warmers instead? hmm.gif

QUOTE(divasweet_77 @ Dec 24 2010, 07:36 PM)
I went once in early March, I thought it was already spring but it damn it snowed on the day we arrived.. If it is snowing, it won't be that cold, but it's before and after it snows + wind, it will be hell..

I was not prepared for the weather and ended up buying a winter jacket! lari my budget. I only wore sneakers and my feet was cold almost got cramped.

it was so damn cold when we got out from the 63 building that we were practically jumping while waiting for the cab and after alternating 1 person waiting for a cab for 2 minutes while the other 2 wait inside the building.. but the best part was when we got inside the train... aahhh.. syiokkk.. bontot panas.. got heater on the seats.. smile.gif

I would suggest you guys to buy those long woolen sweaters.. Mine is up to mid thigh and I feel warmer compared to other who wears the normal sweater which covers only their bum. I bought mine @ FOS. cheap only.

The shot looks stunning. What camera are you using?

QUOTE(treblecase @ Dec 25 2010, 04:14 PM)

icon_question.gif I'm only going for 4 days trip in Seoul. Should I invest on 1 ski glove or 1 insulated/dual layer glove?

I'm planning to go to LG Konjiam Resort since it's the closest from Seoul city. Furthermore, they claim to be the only resort (or probably the first one) to limit the number of visitors (7,000 pax per day). Has anyone been here before?

Also, would wearing wool hat sufficient enough to keep the ears warm or should I get ears warmer + wool hat?

Many thanks forumers! You guys really help a LOT of indie travelers here notworthy.gif

QUOTE(sfwong1 @ Dec 27 2010, 11:03 PM)
I went to pyeongchang to ski then overnight at yeongpyong ski resort, cos the tour guide say yeongpyong ski got a lot of ppl so not that nice then we went to pyeongchang to ski. Actually,I think the most important eq Is your glove and scarf or something to protect your ear. The 1st day I reach I just wore a down jacket. With my normal short from msia then went out at about 12 midnight walk at the street for 10 min with the wind blow I already shaking and my ear become so numb that I can't feel it. I was so afraid I just drop off when I touch it lol so went inside a building rest 1st then continue walk for another 20 plus min then tak tahan edi run back inside hotel. Really my advice don buy those glove from winter time or universal traveller all useless can't tahan. The best is buy skiing glove, that one can tahan damn good! I got mine for 15000 won from the skiing shop while renting tjhe eqs

Hi all, if I have only 4 days effectively in Seoul, is it worth it to go for a day trip for skiing? I'm planning to go afternoon ski 1pm - 5pm, but now thinking that it might be a waste of money, time and energy if I were to go for a short trip. What do you guys think?

The fleece version is only at the neck area. If you already have a scarf, the original one will do if you want to use it long term. Even snowboarders/ski goers use this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4zQDA-gxQo...player_embedded

It's made from 100% polyester microfiber. Since Buff can be shaped in different form, I don't see why Buff's only catered for men. Those ajussi and construction workers sure bought the counterfeit version wan.. hmm.gif

QUOTE(stimix @ Jan 5 2011, 12:48 PM)
Buff in cotton? I dun think cotton is good material for winter..Normally buff is very rubbery (Syntetic material?)and can be shape into Tudung, mask, cap & etc. I dun think cotton buff can be easily shape?

The one I saw in Seoul MRT - 3000 won type also not so flexible and hard to sape bcos of the thickness..

Anyway. Spydergirl buff will definetly usefull although it is rare to see girls wearing buff in Korea..Infact so far none..Those wearing buff are those construction workers, and street ajussi vendors..It performed very well and you no need any scarf.

Scarf is very common on the street..

QUOTE(sfwong1 @ Jan 5 2011, 02:16 PM)
Yeah so far I went to seoul walk around at night also don see much girl use buff cos they prefer scarf maybe they think its nicer, most of time I see girl use buff during skiing time,my tourmate was wearing something that can cover your whole head only can see the eye,lol like some robber like that. Eventhough nobody wear like that but still nobody give the weird stare towards him.
