I went once in early March, I thought it was already spring but it damn it snowed on the day we arrived.. If it is snowing, it won't be that cold, but it's before and after it snows + wind, it will be hell..

I was not prepared for the weather and ended up buying a winter jacket! lari my budget. I only wore sneakers and my feet was cold almost got cramped.

it was so damn cold when we got out from the 63 building that we were practically jumping while waiting for the cab and after alternating 1 person waiting for a cab for 2 minutes while the other 2 wait inside the building.. but the best part was when we got inside the train... aahhh.. syiokkk.. bontot panas.. got heater on the seats.. smile.gif

I would suggest you guys to buy those long woolen sweaters.. Mine is up to mid thigh and I feel warmer compared to other who wears the normal sweater which covers only their bum. I bought mine @ FOS. cheap only.

You need ear warmer or wool hats to cover the ears right?

LOL! Yeah, it's the total opposite here in Malaysia. Malls = aircond laugh.gif

Added on December 25, 2010, 11:55 pmGood Scarf or buff to cover can already but a good glove is also very important. Those cheap insulated polyester glove <RM40 is useless once temp dipped below minus 5C!..leather insulated glove ~ RM70 & above is important if temp below -5C..well for me-lah..

I went to Winter Time recently, they have quite a few selections there.

Attached Image
Even insulated glove (buy one free one), I forgot how much. hmm.gif

They also sell super thick wool socks. I bought two pairs = 1 set, it costs me RM70+. Quite expensive..then I went to Sox World, they're selling it for RM35 for two pairs...D'OH! doh.gif I seriously think SoxWorld has the cheapest price for winter accessories, but you got to make sure that it's decently 'thick' enough for your needs.

Also, they have this one foldable card that is so super useful, filled with travel guide, checklist, countries winter temp, etc. Suggest you guys take one if you bumped to Winter Time rclxms.gif

From the look at your glove, I dun think it's enough to endure anything lower than minus 5C haha..anyway you still can hide your hands inside the down jacket.

SOX world is cheaper than UT & Winter Time but for overall winter acc, Goin Places cheaper..Wool socks at RM19/pait & also the lousy wool & polyster glove that I got for RM19/pair too..

Added on December 26, 2010, 12:20 amWow..Now only realized Won & US$ getting cheaper..3.80 nia at Wawasan meaning Atria probably at 2.77 only...So lucky for those going soon...

Well its insulated (has dual layers), not the lousy wool/polyster type. Still, I haven't bought it yet, will eye around for a good one. Any thicker than this is the ski glove brows.gif which I think would look ridiculous on day to day wear. Will check out Going Places though, need second socks. Good advice rclxms.gif

Would it help if I wear underwear tights + wool socks + sneakers + leg warmers instead? hmm.gif

OK since you're on budget similar to most of ppl here..My recent trip of 6D4N can be used as guideline. I EXCLUDE hotels & air ticket bcos already paid in advance. You can prebook hotels using the link on 1st page (innotel, hostelworld or agoda)

Wth the AAX tickets & hotel excluded, I changed ~RM2170 cash into Won (well to USD 1st thereafter won). Yesterday, I changed back the whole US$218 available and got back RM680  rclxms.gif So total spending only ~RM1500  rclxm9.gif AND this was for 3 persons!!  smile.gif  (Avg exchange rate at 2.85)

Rough idea of how I spent my RM1300 there (for 3 pax)"

- T-Money 33,000w X3 but got back 3600w X3 at the end of the day. (~RM260)
- Daily food for 3 X3 (Brunch & dinner - some meal simple convenience shop kimbap & drinks  blush.gif ) ~ 12,000w X2 X3 X 4 nites (~RM820)
- Souvenir, entrance tickets, Taxi & etc  ~180,000won (RM520)

for 3pax . nice info there .

i will be going for 8day 6night .

this will be my benchmark for my budget. biggrin.gif

I reserved my comment about Insadong moe for westerners ad the price of souvenirs is more expensive than Namdaemun. nfact namdaemun having more souvenirs shops than insadong.

About the cosmesics, Lotsa them on every corners of MyeongDong. However after comparing the facial mask pricing..not much heaper than KL. In KL, Korean faial mask is ~ RM8/pc whereas in Myeondong those lusy band ~ 1000won & mor trendy brand like nature republic /Skin food ~ 3000won..

Hello!

Am wondering whether anyone went to Hongdae Free Market before? >> http://10magazine.asia/2010/08/13/funky-free-market-finds/

If yes, do you think they're open during winter?

Am not sure whether is it the place my friend wanted to visit. He and his wife did went to somewhere near some university stating that got flea market and all. But to the disappointment; a lot "stall" is not open.
Now some more the weather is even colder, so not sure whether or not they will be open or not.

i was wearing my converse in Korea when temperature is -12'C.
no problem, just make sure you wear thicker socks.
if you have boots, it's better especially walking on slippery icy ground.

this was what i wore - uniqlo heattech inner (top and legging), a tight fitting long sleeve top, a cardigan, a down jacket and jeans. a must have is ear muff and scarf to cover your neck, mouth and nose. also gloves for your hands.

it becomes very cold around 6pm when it starts to get dark.

stay warm and enjoy your holidays. =)
