QUOTE(Jeff Low @ Nov 17 2006, 05:59 PM) Hi , I had just complete my diploma in Information Technology , and I am attract by a Gaming & Animation Technology for Advance diploma level. And I will take the Computer Games Software Engineering at the Degree level in major of Gaming and Animation Technology. But what I am wondering is, Is it Game Creator or Game developer demand is high in the market ? and about how much of the base salary? Game creator should create demand, not looking for demand. Make a game, and convince someone to invest in your game. Thanks for all replying my doubt, Why not you do a quick search on jobstreet to get an idea hows our local game job market is like? I think the situation now is not many company looking for game creator/maker, there are some post on 3D modeling but this is just a small part for game design. Designer see the forest, programmer see the trees. And then here come the chicken and egg problem, you no experience, why people want to hire you? Nobody hire you, how you gain experience? Therefore you must count on yourself on gaining experience, work out some toy games, some art design, and show them off during your interview, or implement them into a complete game. But the most important factor here is that you must be extremely interested to this field and willing to be very very dedicated. Eat design, sleep design, walk design, drive design, all design game! And when you see a bird fly by and drop a shit on you, you will visualize a futuristic fighter bomber capable of doing precision nuclear bombing on the primary target robot. This level of dedication is required because you HAVE to decide what to do, and carry it out. You see, it is very easy to have a good idea and start a project, but the difficulty level will go geometrically in the process of making. And the moment before completion will likely knock you back to bits. It is not like working for some others like any other jobs, do whatever you were told, add in a wee bit of creativity and opinion, got respected, and promoted and go on. Just bear in mind, making game and playing game is totally different thing! My 1/2 cent This post has been edited by rexis: Nov 17 2006, 06:47 PM |

Game development is huge..
Game designer? you do the concept, ideas, architecture, systems . . just like Will Wright. Game graphics developer? you love C++ and C# with the energized mind of DX9 / X APIs and OPENGL APIs Game developer? When someone mention AI / collisions, you jump into the conclusions. IMHO, i would say game designer is demanding, in the world gaming industry, we lack of original games... just my opinion |

To the threadstarter:
I'd like to point out there's a big difference btw a game designer (ala John Romero/Shigeru Miyamoto etc) vs a game developer (ala John Carmack). One basically creates the outline/plot/gameplay of the game; the other implements the technical portion. Old schoolers like Will Wright/Sid Meier can do both. Then there are the 3D artists, sound engineers etc. Your course is more on the technical aspect w/ some parts of game design thrown in. Remember like to play games != can develop games. |

Is it that Game designer plan the story board and Game developer build it? No problem But I have another question, if i take the course, is it that when interview, they will look on my subject that taken and see whether suit to the work but not look at the course? Sorry for not expressing well I am not sure about what will they look for during interview, because that depends on the company. So be sure to know the most basic things(all the graphic design software), some advanced thing(preferbly those that the company looking for, like those 3D modeling software) as well as some piece of your best work(like last time my advertising friend bring alone his flash and art work to interview). Maybe you think the above is more like apply to graphic designer, because I really no idea who(the hell) willing to spend money to hire a game designer, especially an inexperience one If you scope is not limited to local, then you can start surfing the websites like Blizzard Entertainment check they career button |

Contractor build the house and put the bricks together according to the blue print. So in the case of game: The Game Designer/Maker(GM) will have all the game ideas generated, GM has to be very creative and imaginative. For example, how the interface will be, how the game storyline will be, what kind of units you will have, what kind of weapons each units will have, can add on new ability or not? The game balanced or not? The game fun or not? Replayable or not? The Graphics Developer(GD) will create what the GM want into digital format. They will deal with those source codes, programmings, debugging, testing, etc etc. Usually a startup company or game studio will likely to handle everything by one person. Check the PC game Stronghold, you see so many similar name in credits part, he is doing almost everything by himself. There is no such thing as what skill is needed to be a game designer/developer, there is no limit, try learn as many thing as you can. Thats why I say, must be very dedicated. The more you know the marrier. This post has been edited by rexis: Nov 18 2006, 01:19 PM |

Or how they define the price for selling a game idea or a game? |
