May I know what's the difference between an original local set and an original imported set? If I buy an original imported set from a famous local seller and they provide a one-year guarantee, does this mean it's going to be OK?

Local set = local official warranty..
imported set = warranty by the seller only...if the seller is reputable...is OK to buy i guess..

It depends.
Let's say smartphone that have different specs for diff region like the Galaxy Note 4. There's a version that comes with Snapdragon 805 and the other one is Exynos 5433. Be sure to check which set (country) is it from and check if the LTE/4G network is compatible with Malaysia's telco if you're buying such device. *This only applies to smartphone with variety of specs for different regional*

Second, the different will be the warranty. Original sets warranty is from manufacture's local authorized warranty. AP is mostly from shops/distributor.

To claim AP set's warranty can be troublesome if the seller and distributor aren't good/reputable.

Famous local seller... like DirectD? their service sucks. Maybe there are others.

original imported set is call AP set
if u unlucky, phone itself is ori but everything else is fake.
the charger will be using china 2 pin plug
check carefully, some ap mporter sell china LTE version not working with malaysia LTE band.
forget OTA update
no google play store, full with china crapware.

The only difference is warranty .

Warranty is the main difference, some of it will be the spec..
Still advice to buy local original set, easy for u to claim warranty..
