a good starter to become aware of this thing. privacy invasion in windows has been around for a long time. it's just that w10 is more obvious than previous windows versions. we haven't gone through our phones and tablets, or software like google chrome yet. hopefully this topic helps users understand what other os, hardware, software, etc. have done to us as user.

one thing to note: you need to check out these settings/apps that have been removed from time to time; be sure to check out updates from anti-telemetry tools. this is a loop, they will come back quietly without your knowledge.

it's not just about w10. telemetry patches have been distributed to older os days ago as optional updates.

you should have realized that nothing will protect you from it if you only depends on measures applied to os alone. they are the creator of the os. maybe those ms server ips are hard-coded and updated from time to time via windows updates (or maybe in background); maybe all these data upload services are white listed in kernel-level so they can bypass any blocks applied to them at os-level, and hide them at os- and application-level (you cannot capture anything if you do that on the same os that runs tools like sniffers); maybe you thought you have disabled it (visually) but in reality those options are for show-only, the services still do their own things in background; etc. there are a lot of maybe's.

it's a double-edge sword to ms. it will hurt their business by many folds eventually. i don't think businesses or governments like this thing either. so let's wait and see.

edit: i hope with this people will understand what actually is happening to their other personal devices also. google? apple? why do people seldom complain about them? they are doing the same thing all this while lol!

er.. i think you missed my points.

oh no wonder. yeah i can see the difference now. i was talking about a larger scope, while you're looking at your personal scope. well yeah just do what ever makes you comfortable hehe

just find the comfortable balance between this privacy thing and usability. it's just personal preference. when i feel really uncomfortable i use linux. relatively, of course windows is better in terms of user experience. however, i find linux fit all the bills in my case. (and it's getting better)

whatever ms does with w10, it's really up to them. what goes around comes around. they will have the taste of the mess they have created sooner or later. (they aim for better w7-to-10 converts, but they put this telemetry thing in the way lol it's funny )
