Hello guys,

I'm seeking for job and there are 2 openings handling 2 different regions, thus different working hours.
During the interview I am being asked which is preferred.
Assuming basic salary is RM3xxx benefits are the same for both jobs.
The only difference is shift allowance for evening/night shift.
1. RM3xxx (8am to 5pm)
2. RM3xxx + allowance between 30-50 per working day (3pm to 12am)

Anyone can give their helpful advice? Much appreciated.

Say, you unlucky to get allowance of RM30 per day. 20 working days, there's an extra RM600 for you to use. Sounds to be there's no need to consider anything else. laugh.gif

I work both normal hours and shift depending on my schedule. I prefer shift, it gives me more daytime to run personal errands and don't have to stress with traffic.

It's a decision to make depending on what sorts of life balance you are looking for:

#1
Pros:
- Standard working hours.
- More quality time with family in the evening (if you have your family with you).
- No exhaustion / hangover due to odd working hour.
Cons:
- Morning and after work traffic.
- Lesser $$$ (could also be +ve if you look at it objectively as your tax bracket may force you to pay more taxes)

#2
Pros:
- More $$$ (could put these extras into good use if being used wisely. Risk of spending unnecessarily to fulfill emotional need is high)
- No rush hour traffic.
Cons:
- Driving back late night may be dangerous due to exhaustion.
- No / lesser family time (which could not be replaced with $$$).
- May slowly lose your relationship with friends and family members due to odd working hours (need time to build relationship)
- Staying up late at night for long term is bad for health

I've done both normal hours and shift hours before. Here's my input:

3pm - 12am shift is like a dream come true. By working shift, you get to avoid traffic. Normal hours will make you waste at least 2 hours in traffic each day. At least. Plus, even if you are in normal hours, you rarely get to leave on time. Most probably will need to bring work home or stay back. That's our Malaysian culture. For shift, once your shift ends, you're free.

I'm now working normal hours everyday until 1am and don't even get a single cent for compensation. Weekends kena work, public holidays kena work, MC kena work, even tengah on-leave kena work. Back in my 2 years shift, never before they called me on my off-time.
