HI, I have trouble to pick a laptop for my studies..
I'm about to continue my degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering). ..
Im not a gamer, but my hobby is editting video.. Considering that almost all of latest model laptop can do simple thing like programming, now I'm focusing to find a laptop that can render video faster... I use After Effects CS6 to edit video... And im about to explore 3D with blender/3ds max...

After surveyed for a few days, I found 3 model lapfop that is in my budget range...

1.MSI GE60 2QD
I7-4720HQ
Gtx 950m 2Gb Ddr5
4Gb ram
1TB HDD
Price - RM3700

2.Asus G551JW DM016H
I7-4720HQ
Gtx 960m 2Gb Ddr5
4Gb ram
1Tb hdd + 8Gb SSD
Price - I saw a thread in this forum that the price is RM3580

3.Asus G551JW DM017H
I7-4720HQ
Gtx 960m 4Gb Ddr5
8Gb ram
1Tb hdd + 8Gb Ssd
Price - Rm4100

Actually i've already booked MSI GE60 2QD with a shop at lowyat and since he offered a wireless mouse for a total of Rm3730,ive already deposit rm30...

Im still considering to pick the MSi, becauss later on, i can install ssd (it has msata slot to add ssd) but, some people said that msi ge60 used old cooling technology... Is it too bad? Or ifs only happen during heavy gaming (bear in mind that I didnt gaming) And considering that gtx950m performance is almost same as gtx860m,of course i felt a bit dissapointed because i can pay for a lower price to get gtx860m...
I consided asus g551 because ut has better spec with almost same price for the msi... But, as far as i know, if i bought the g551jw, i cant add any ssd anymore... Is that correct?
Some people said that to add more ssd, i should remove the dvd (because it dont have any space left maybe)..is that true?
Last but not least, I need the laptop for atleast 4 years... So, need to pick the best quality...
For anyone who offered better price for all of the model above,pm me your price..its better if you own a shop at lowyat...

Already read review about those laptop...
But I would like to confirm about the question such as "does Msi ge60 2qd have very bad cooling technology or overheat only happened during heavy gaming?" and the question " can I add more ssd to asus rog g551jw? Should the dvd be removed for doing so? If the dvd removed, are the warranty void?"...
Cant find anywhere for the answer

for value for money wise,
i will defintly choose that 2nd option, n then just get a 8GB ram, around Rm200

for the ssd, there is option of mSata;
here, might help

http://rog.asus.com/376092014/g-series-gam...-upgrade-guide/
http://www.ultrabookreview.com/5574-asus-g551jm-review/

u cant expect much on this entry level gaming laptop,
there will always b pro and cons icon_idea.gif

on the warranty part,
if there is no physicall damage be done,
the warranty is still intact, if not, even changing the RAM would void the warranty,
so if u happend to get the idea on getting an SSD caddy,
just make sure u dun damage the original ODD or the internal hardware,
which im sure u will not, the ODD can just b remove by only one screw, what that can do harm

Ohh... I see... Im not used to the internal part of the laptop...
Thanks for your post.. Helped me a lot... Thats mean i can get maximum 16Gb of ram if I bought the original 4GB model.. At least i felt more confidence to get the g551jw...
Do you familiar with lowyat store? Know where i can get the model Asus G551jw Dm016H with an affordable price at lowyat area?
I've already pm-ed someone in this forum who sell this model at rm3580,seems like he is busy and didnt read my message yet... I preferred physical store...

if u want a 16GB ram, u have to 'throw' away that 4GB ram.
it comes with only 2 slot, one already occupied by 4GB from factory,
meaning if u want 16GB, u have to pull out the 4GB ram 1st,

lowyat???
wanna tips?? if u going lowyat, have to be 'rajin',
have to at least survey n bargain with more than 3 shops,
learn how to b sweet talker, get best price,
see which shop gve u the most value package,

n gentle reminder,
stick ur head with only the things u want,
or else, the reseller would always try to manipulate u to buy other laptop with saying that it is gud, which the fact it is not...

if u asking me?
i will go for this
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/len...x960m-w8-1.html,
just try to find the 16GB variant

base on this 3 survey, the 2nd option win in term of performance per dollar. among all have highest GPU which is GTX 960m and still have SSD. worth it to forfeit that 30 buck too sweat.gif

I think an Illegear would be a much better choice -

Overbudget, but well worth the money, if you factor the build quality. brows.gif

i use to own few Gaming Notebook.. AW14/ASUS G75 VX/MSI GT70 xxx best to go with is Warranty/Service cover... If your not DiY kinda guy.. (go Dell Alienware gaming but price is extra premium) but please do research on Warranty service.. if your going for gaming go minimum GTX 970M or better GTX 980 .

by way have you check out Illegear ? see how much same price your option to Illegear Notebook. icon_rolleyes.gif

The guy up there recommended illegear too...
But its far too overprice for me...
Im not into gaming, but I enjoy editting video... If you have any recommendation for a better video editing laptop with budget under rm4k,kindly post here... Or does gtx 960m is a bit weak for rendering video?

Some of my friend already recommended this... Ive already look for it at lowyat a week ago... Seems like its quite hard to find the gtx960m model..
The way people commenting about this model kind of scared me.... Seems like I should be ready to claim warranty...

actually you can also consider MSI PE60 or PX60... since you use it more for video editing and rendering, the panel comes with 100% sRGB will be useful for you thumbup.gif
