So I've received an email from the IT Support guys in my company saying that no illegal mp3 download is allowed in the company .. Once I got caught, severe action will be taken ..
The thing is, i downloaded my mp3 at my home and copied it to my work laptop .. Is there a way for them to check whether the files i downloaded is illegal or not ??

did they mean no mp3 download using office equipment? cos that one u can have action taken against.

why dont u just use ur phone to play mp3 to a bluetooth speaker? or buy a mp3 player etc?
i dont know of any way to check if files are legal or not, unless u show them ur home PC with the files downloaded legally via whatever u use.

Yeah if you truly didnt download MP3 at company, by all means pls DEMAND proof of the alleged crime.
Believe me, if they said you did, im sure they have proof so dont try to act innocent coz u should get ready for warning letter or sacked.
