Yes, you can use RM5 to "keep the number", but it can only make the line active for 5 days. Every RM1 reload lets the line stay active for 1 day, RM2 gives 2 days, so RM5 gives 5 days only.

After the 5 days, the line will become inactive, and you will have a 50-day grace period to reload/activate, before it is terminated. That is where the "50 days to keep the number" comes in.

there always grace period from 50 days to 90 days. Best you go to the nearest maxis centre to check if the number have been recycle or not. If not yet recycle most probably you have to subscribe to a postpaid plan to maintain your number. If recycled you cant get it back except buy back the number
