Wow, didnt know there would be a thread for mechanical keyboard.

I was getting very fed up with my Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 that I bought used for RM60. The space key always seem stuck. I watched a few youtube video and follow their suggestion to mod but still sucks. Finally I toss it away and touring Low Yat looking for a new keyboard. To my surprise, it seem like many newer keyboard from Microsoft and Logitech also exhibit the same problem with the sticky space bar. In the end, I had no choice but to go mechanical.

I was in Sri Computer looking at the Gigabyte mechanical keyboard which cost RM299. I tried to ask for discount and the friendly sales promoted this few years old model from Cooler Master instead. The model was Trigger and it comes with Cherry MX Brown keys. The price? RM299 versus RM280 (after discount). Cooler Master Trigger came with macro keys and red backlight versus none for the Gigabyte.

Honestly Im quite happy with the purchase. Probably the most pricy keyboard ever for me personally but its really fun to type after getting used to it. I still in the process of getting used to it since my previous Microsoft had different layout and bigger keys to type on.

At first, I thought why would anyone bought red but after typing it extensively for 2 days, I can see why some people prefer the red. Even though I do feel the brown a bit light when testing the demo unit, it was totally different when I adjust to my computer seat and starting to type. It did really feel heavier especially when reaching for space bar, enter, shift, or whatever larger keys. However for the alphabetic keys, it is just the right feeling for me.

Wow, didnt knew there would a lucky draw here. Missed it....

Although I already had a similar keyboard, would be nice if can win it and gave it to my wife at work. She came over the my pc the other day and noticed that I changed my keyboard already. She can tell the difference when typing... why so smooth one? Hehehe...

XT-Stealth also RM 200.
Not worth? Stealth is side-printed keycap set.

I tried both... although I prefer XT for work, but Quickfire Stealth is really more comfortable to type on. Red switch (Quickfire Stealth) seem so nice. If only it came with palm rest.

Side printed keys are pricy? Really noob about this but the all black seem nice, and good to train my son to remember qwerty.

Even though I only spent some time with my new keyboard, I do noticed the difference when using brown and red. Although red is easier to type, it's also easier to make mistakes. Even though it barely differ from brown, once you start typing, you tend to type faster and faster due to the less force needed for each key press. I think I will need some time to get used to it, when compared to brown.

What MKB is that? Really like the side printed keycaps.
I bought myself a switch tester just to try out the switches b4 making my decision. Cost me around 60. Got 6 switches iinm. Red, brown, blue, black, green, and white/clear(forgot. sorry).
Played w it for 2-3 months and opted for blues. No regrets.

Haha. Far from it. It's just that the usual recommendation of getting switch testers really doesn't do it for me. I'm the type of guy who needs long hours and the full experience to decide something. The only thing I got from playing around with mech kbs at shops is that all of them feel awesome. I can also read all about the different switches but that won't tell me how good it would feel.

Money certainly is an issue, escpecially with today's economy but I guess this is the solution for me.

Well, that is the thing when trying out keyboard at shops. We wont get into a typing posture, but standing all the time. All the keys barely felt any different when you tried it while standing. You can only feel it when you rest your palm on the desk and then just press the key with just your fingers.

At first, I thought I wanted to stand out, like with the clicky keys. I almost bought a gigabyte mechanical with mx blue but the staff recommend the cm storm trigger with mx brown. Although I did miss the clicky sound but one thing for sure is that linear keys are smoother and dont have tactile bump. Although they said mx brown had the tactile bump, but it was really light that I would miss it 95% of the time. Now that I have the red, its even smoother than the brown.

Personally, no matter which switch you buy, I think you will be happier with it than membrane keyboard. Its just so hard to get used to other keyboard once you get used to it already.
