When most of the funds having 50% return in this period, guaranteed funds give 20% return. How about if the market not doing well and most of the funds having 20% return? Guaranteed funds might give 3% return...

Don't expect much from guaranteed funds, as a large portion of money is invested into safe investment tools which give a low guaranteed return every year just to cover your capital in 3 years/5 years later.

Investor needs to know what is the strategy employed by the fund manager in the particular fund. Some of it are explained by Cherroy earlier. By understanding it, then you can judge whether the fund will able to perform the return as you wanted during the investment period.

Usually your capital will be only protected or guaranteed when you have reached the maturity period if I'm not mistaken.

Correct. However, you can exit anytime. Just have to find out what is the penalty rate. If early redemption penalty is 2% of NAV and if the fund earns 20% in 1 year, then it is worth to exit.

I think they want retain their agents and also their fat profit. Once agents commission is cut, most will either sleep or quit the industry. To the UT company, they rather retain agents than hire since they need not pay anything to the agents. Commission comes from the public who buy.

You already lost around 8% during the first year when investing in UT. You pay for the service charge.

Just look at Lipper fund table in The Edge Weekly if you want to know which fund is performing well.
