Actually, there is no difference. The low price is to attract more investors. A new fund with NAV RM0.25 and NAV RM0.50, actually are same.

When invest, don't look at the price. Look at the investment policy and strategies, are them suitable for you or not. Invest based on your risk appetite but not purely looking at the price.

That is what I think so too, but my agent tries to brain wash me whenever there is a new fund, saying it is cheap. Worth the buy, where the fact it is actually the same

The agent also say, new fund will not drop so much compared to old fund. I have to disagree. Take PCSF as example

About new fund will drop less, this is totally bullshit, how much the fund increase or drop is depended on their portfolio, not new or old.

Rm1.00, RM0.50, Rm0.25 or Rm10, it makes no difference. Calculate back with %, it is the same, just psychological different.

When the NAV offered is low, it is actually cheap 'psycologically', people tend to buy cheap things.

I would say new fund would have a different dimension and can tackle the market follwoing the latest trend. Some old fund is holding on stocks for years.

Old funds might not mean it holds stocks for years. It's all depend on the fund manager strategy. One can see how actively a manager is in trading the fund with this PTR (portfolio turnover ratio).

For a PTR = 1, means the portfolio turnover once every year.
For a PTR = 0.33, means the portfolio turnover once every 3 years.

Most smallcap funds have high PTRs and bluechip funds have low PTRs. But most do have a complete turnover once in <5 years from what I observed.

You can find that from the Annual Report.

I think you can download an e-copy of annual report if you register with PM website.

As I said, never look at the price...but look at the investment policy...

New fund might target in some new and growing region of markets or more focus on some famous industries...this is the only benefits of new fund...else, we can always consider old funds...

All UTs will hit badly by the European subprime issue now. Need to borrow 160b some more. Headache. Go top up if dare to.

Added on August 10, 2007, 10:30 amReally need to switch to preserve my profit? If another 50-100pts, all will be gone.

What playing in my mind is PFEPRF. If the manager have not make a move, properties stocks already suffered a lot and have a bullish prospect. Headache.
