I'd suggest learning from videos instead of paying for magic classes smile.gif

Hi guys,

I've been involved in magic for many years now and I have had the opportunity to purchase items online from some pretty good retailers.

If you're wanting to save $$, then online magic stores are the way to go. I'm not here to advertise or nothing, but I'm here to recommend a favourite store of mine. I-magicnation. It's been my store for many years, the prices are fair and you get 10% back in points which you can use for future purchases. Other good places to purchase would be on ebay from dealers Ace King and Fullboatdealer. All three dealers have excellent shipping prices to Malaysia and would not bankrupt you (as long as you buy 1-14 decks at a time)

The perils of buying online is that you have to keep the amount small so you don't get taxed. Remember that playing cards are considered gambling items so you will be taxed heavily. I have brought in cases of cards over the last couple of years and I've been unfortunate to have been taxed for several of those shipments. Upwards of RM400 tax for each cases not to mention the already high cost of shipping smile.gif Remember tax is almost always guaranteed if you ship via DHL/UPS/FedEx etc for amounts over RM500. Anything less from them and it won't be taxed (unless it's clearly stated Playing Cards)

I would love to support the local dealers here and buy from them, but at their prices I cannot. If it was for a deck or two, I wouldn't mind too much but I basically buy in bulk and the prices are just too high for bulk buys. I don't blame them though, they do have to pay high prices in getting the items shipped to Malaysia. Most online stores have issues with Malaysia and most don't want to do business with us. Lee Asher is one example, the decks he lost and the ton of dvds he has held up. Losing thousands of dollars and not being able to claim it from insurance is a problem and that makes most dealers want to avoid Malaysia.

Magic has always been a great thing. The ability to entertain, and to astound. Collecting decks of playing cards isn't really the point here, and I'm sure most of you know that. Practice and perfect your technique on a regular deck of Bikes and then try the custom decks once you're capable.

The only reason the prices of decks are so high is because of supply and demand. The brown Wynns are kept from the public, so the price is high. Same goes with the other famous decks that go for hundreds of dollars on auction sites. The best decks are the ones you have and practice on. As long as they're not the RM1 Carlsberg decks you get from the grocery stores.

Anyway, just wanted to say that. Learning and performing is a privilege.

Those wanting to learn some pretty cool effects, I'd suggest trying to source the Penumbra magazine #1-11. #11 has recently been released and has some pretty good effects. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find a complete set on the market. Those issues have been gone for ages unless Bill decides to reprint all the past issues. #12 will be out soon according to him, I waited many years for #11 to come out.

Also, Classic Magic of Michael Vincent Volume III is out soon. I'm personally quite excited about that.

For the record, my favourite deck is the Bicycle Ghost Deck (not the black). It's perfect for magic, and everything else notworthy.gif I use the Wynn Violet/Red decks to play poker.

Anyone here know where I can find those solid rubber balls which bounce? Those that use to be available from sundry shops and all that.
