Please ignore my earlier post. Now I have some budget in mind. Please help me to decide.

I'm from Alor Star and going to Lowyat soon. Please help me prepare what to look for when I shop at lowyat.

1. CPU AM2 x2 3800 = RM560

2. MB ? Budget RM300, can OC. No point having AMD and cannot OC. Can I have old pata HD as secondary HD? MSI MS7260 K9N Neo-F Nforce 550 - RM300?

3. RAM 1gig. Budget around RM400 - How about Kingston PC5300 DDR667 - RM415

4. Display. Budget RM400. I'm into photoshop and doing a lot of things at the same. Radeon 1600 or GEforce7600, which one is better? Winfast 7600GS Extreme 256DDR3 RM490 ok or not?

5. Casing? No idea. Cooler master can? Which one for the above setting?

A lot of questions but really appreciate if anyone here could help.

I need a setup that can OC, that's why in OC forum.

RM300 budget for mobo.... you should go for BIOSTAR TForce 6100-AM2 instead of the MSI. Low end MSI is often problematic and a lot of incompatibility with many hardwares.

TForce 6100-AM2 is stable, caps are great (solid capacitors around the CPU)... and most important, the board is using blue pcb instead of ugly red.

Agree.Biostar mobo is always recommended for OC.Great performance and reliability as well as a good pricing point as well...

512 x 2 or 1024 x1?

512x2 better. Any of those two will do (if you're thinking of value RAM).

6100 is small board and 550 look normal size one.

What the different in running AM2 x2 3800?

Does CM Centurion 5 comes with standard PSU? Sufficient or not? I may sound stupid but PSU never come to mind.

if u intend to OC.. spare another 200-300 for PSU alone..
good casing normally didn't come with PSU..
if u targeting around RM100 casing.. u will just obtain normal PSU..

What's the different in running AM2 x2 3800?
pay more for the bigger L2 cache.. which no need so often..
performance still on par on certain apps.. with 3600+..
pay less, energy efficient, less heat, cheap, OCable..

6100 has on-board graphics, 550 doesn't. but that's not very important

6100 have 2 IDE connectors, 550 only have 1 IDE.

most important is 6100 is priced below RM300 ... 550 is above RM300.

8tvt been asking me why I need 3800 instead of lower cache AM2 x2 3600?
My reason, correct me if i'm wrong, a lot of multi tasking, photoshop and video rendering.

bigger cache gives significant advantage if you do video encoding.

i've compared a sempron 256k L2 with an athlon64 512k L2 .... both are from the same core revision, and both are overclocked to the same speed at 2.7ghz. athlon64 is faster.

i might suggest u wait the nv88 mid and low end version that might probably around ur budget and the card is better than current model...i think it going to release soon...

if u wanna o'c hv u thought bout the PSU and oso the HSF
coz u need a good n stable psu for o'c
oso a good cooling unit os that ur proc wont burn

1) go for X2 3800+
2) biostar 6100 oso good
3) i prefer corsair than kingston..get the 512mb*2 instead a 1gb
4) 7600gt better than X1600
5) depends on ur budget..there is a lot of gud n nice lookin case there @ lowyat

but the RM100 different is big for me.. coz u mentioned 'budget'
AFAIK the imaging need faster/big ram...

if cache is everything.. why amd still use low cache since the beginning compare to intel?
coz amd found not all appz can utilise it and can reduce the cost.. and targetting budget ppl that need the speed..

From my observation, I haven't seen any X2 3600+ that can overclock as well as an X2 3800+. Probably EE processors don't overclock well nowadays.

actually it's just nice ~2ghz pair with 256 L2 cache..

just like 1ghz cpu with 4gb ram... for ideal 1ghz setup.. 2gb ram is just nice..
4gb ram maybe ideal for 3ghz cpu...

same goes to 3800+... if we can highly oc it.. the big L2 cache will give an advantage.. that's why ppl see 3800+ will be great in OC...

i've tried both and merely achieve 2.4-2.5ghz... and feel just the same...
unless can try hit 2.8 or more with 3800+... sure win... but it's hard to get though.. need to spend for good mobo,ram,psu,cooler as well... then no budget de.. spending those... better get 4400+ 1mb then...

AFAIK the one listed in C-zone is not a Tforce 6100.

I went to KL for other things too. Travelling cost me RM60, but the following is what I did on Thursday in kl:

1. Buy Canon Lens 28-135mm from a guy at Pudu
2. Sell Canon Lens 17-85 to a guy in Jaya Jusco Maluri
3. Buy cpu, mb, psu, casing, ram, HD, LCD, CF card at lowyat
4. Meet my friends then go shopping golf stuff at Kelana Jaya.

RM60 spent but a full day out in kl

Anyway, I bought Biostar Geforce6100 not Tforce 6100. The Tforce not available anymore.

Now my pc running just using built in GC. Will look for GC in this forum and lelong.

Now just oc a bit using Warpspeeder software from 2.0 to 2.1. More than 2.15, hanged.

what are the things u bought?

I too am planning out my ATHLON RIG , I'd avoid the K9N Neo-F Nforce 550if i were you. Read somewhere that it doesen't overclock well due to Vcore options in Bios.

About Ram,choose corsair better.About Casing,choose cooler master or alienware
