from what i gather from this forum
asus has very bad aftersales service
dell very good

thats a pity i always prefer asus laptops in the same price range.
my thinking is they are a big time manufacture of various electornic products not dell/acer/hp they oem their products.

what about after sales services for the below?
acer
lenovo
hp
*
Acer... n lenovo u can throw out of the window... quality of the call centre already make u hot blooded

Hp only pc hv onsite... laptop all hv to send to collection centre.

Illegear n dell hv best onsite service de.. (illegear klang Valley only)

I see. Thanks for the critique.

Hp target those fancy stuffs.. most of them not really applicable... hp units b4 2013 was good.. this 2 yrs they become funny..

Hp mostly focus on server, Printer now.. tat 2 they r super strong..

Spectre is their flagship Ultrabook... a worthy competitor for xps13..

Hi, I just wanted to get some recommendations smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Asus or anything.
2. Budget: < RM3,200
3. Usage:
- Uni: I'm going to be a game development student next year, if that helps. Not sure exactly what programs we'll be using but hopefully my (new) laptop can handle it!
- Gaming: I'm currently playing a lot of Dragon Age: Inquisition and I know I'm going be playing Fallout 4 nonstop too. Hoping to buy GTA V and The Witcher 3 soon and am looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider and Dishonored 2. With that in mind, I'm not necessarily looking for something that'll run those games in Ultra settings with 60 fps, but I just want something that'll run them smoothly. I don't mind medium settings and as long as I get to play without lag, I'm good thumbup.gif
- Misc: I also use a lot of Photoshop.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:
- More or less a 15"
- 1 TB storage
- Something with better specs than the laptop I have now. (Currently have Intel Core i5, Nvidia GeForce 820m, 4gb RAM)

That's all, really. Thank you! biggrin.gif

http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-a...ake-mobile-cpus

ASUS ZenBook UX305 Ultrabook 6th-gen Intel Skylake how available in Singapore
SG1300 = RM4000 - core m skylake version mad.gif
US750 = RM3300 - i5 haswell version !!!!!!!!!

what a big difference, I think i am not going to wait for zenbook skylake in Malaysia, unless one of my relatives goes to US/MY for a holiday soonish.

Now that acer V3 371 price is looking very attractive compared to the zenbooks, will decide by monday.

Remember this aritcle
Xiaomi to Release First Laptop in 2016
http://www.lowyat.net/2015/75794/confirmed...laptop-in-2016/

Most probably going to be very good value, keeping my eye on this one.
other rumers say
i5-i7 skylake
13.3" FHD or QHD screen
8GB ram
SSD
light weight,
Cheap
OS = linux,

Just the type of ultrabook i am after.

my current shortlist
acer V3 371
Lenovo z40-70 cheap, heavy but still deciding
Zenbook too expensive
HP Envy 13 too expensive
Dell XPS too expensive

Xiaomi laptop hell yah, but not sure if I can wait till next year and order from taobao.

Just hope the laptop not like the fon.. 2yrs lifespan nia

Is MSI really that bad? Im considering MSI PE60. Other options including Acer V Nitro because of the i7 processor. Might also opt for Dell 7559 but rn there is no stock and I urgently need a laptop.

taiwan brand hv limited backup in malaysia...i met dell onsite technicians who were from those company...they tell me how back they were treated back in those company... tremendous workload but kena exploited of the pay...

do u think those treatment will produce good aftersales? asus i must say is the better pay among those 3 (acer, msi n asus) but problem is the senior management is a jerk...met 3 ex asus technical who said the same thing...

problem not wif company.. but those old brat in the management...

Hi there, I need some suggestion :

1. Preferred Brand - Preferably Asus but open to suggestion of other brands (as long as after sale service is acceptable); warranty must be not too bad
2. Budget - RM3 to 4k Max
3. Usage - For Work + Gaming (Mainly Online games) + Youtube + Movie Streaming
4. Preferred screen size - 13 - 15

I prefer laptop that can last quite a while (heavy user),

Thank you

Just a rule of thumb, the GTX cards (GTX 950m, GTX 960m etc) are meant for heavy gaming and will perform much better compared to the non GTX series (920m, 940m etc).

However, that doesnt mean u cant run games smoothly on the non GTX series. You might have to lower some settings here and there as well as the resolution for a smooth gameplay notworthy.gif

Generally, the higher the GPU number, the better it is. Though some will perform almost the same to an older card. (GTX 950 to the GTX 850m are almost identical only difference being the GTX 950m is clocked a bit higher).
*
I think u must tell them the first digit is series or architecture number

2nd digit 2,3,4 indicate entry level
5,6 medium
7,8 high end
9, or something else like titan those r extreme.. although never seen 1 Nvidia x90m b4..

Only gtx 690 nia... same grade as titan black..

QUOTE(JLD @ Nov 13 2015, 11:02 AM)
Hi dudes & dudettes,

It's been a very long time since i last bought a laptop. My Toshiba lasted me more then 7 years. Now it's totally dead so I need a recommendation for a new laptop, something which can last coz I don't see the need to update to the latest laptop/hardware every 2-3 years. I don't know a good & reliable brand, model, etc since it's been a very long time since I last bought 1. I don't see any Toshiba or Dell in Kuching anymore (don't know what happened to those brands) so here's the specs that I need :

Screen size : 15" / 15.6"
Processor : i7 U or HQ (dual core or quad core)
Graphics : NVIDIA GT/GTX
RAM : 4/8gb
Optical drive : don't want or need an optical drive.
Storage : HDD or SDD (amount doesn't matter)
Usage : Work (excel, words, outlook, powerpoint, etc), Graphics (Photoshop, Illustrator), Audio (live recording, p.a system tuning, mixing, etc), gaming (during offshore).
Price range : 3.5K to 4.5K

Thanks dudes & dudettes in advance.

Cheers.

Thanks but no XPS 15 price yet on the website. The specs are what I'm looking for, just the price is unknown.
How about for the warranty? Will it be troublesome?

If dell warranty lousy in Malaysia.. Other brand can close shop de.. All u need is a call.. N they will arrange onsite service for u

Because Dell processing speed through the call centre is more efficient. There are feedbacks from other forumers about HP call centre. A few of them still send their laptop to pick up centre despite the onsite service.  smile.gif

hp laptop need send to collection center.. only pc onsite rite?

btw hp laptop quality drop... omen easily cross 75 degree
