I just bought an MSI notebook last week.

The model is GE72 2QL Apache.

I have to say that I am a totally new user of MSI. My previous 2 laptops were Compaq and Asus.
I bought this simply becuz of the wider screen (17 inch) and dual-fan features. Besides, it uses 5th generation i7 processor and most importantly, the price does not exceed RM4000 which is my budget for a new laptop.

However, counting myself unlucky, within a few days, I have experienced several problems with my new laptop:

1. Laggy. The notebook comes with only 4GB DDR3 RAM, where most of the time I found the system running at roughly 80% to 90% when I was playing Dota 2. I can't say this is the only cause/ reason that contribute the lag but I guess it definitely has something to do with the RAM. Lag also happened when I tried to close my Dota2-Reborn.

2. Hanged once. There was a time when I was playing my Dota 2 (well... if not for games, why would one buy G series?), I forgot to switch on the dual-fan mode, it hanged around 15 ~ 20 mins after I opened my Dota 2. The 1st thing that came across my mind was like "Are you kidding me, MSI?! This is not even 1 week old."

3. The volume of the sound system is set too low by default. Again, when I was watching TI5 replay on Dota 2, the sound was not loud enough to hear, therefore I increased it to 100 (max). But still, it was still not clear enough and I was forced to use Nahimic (a built-in software to complement the sound system) to boost the volume. The issue, fortunately, was solved after that. However, I am not sure whether it will cause any damage to the speakers in the long run.

The reason I am writing this post is not to complain but to share my experience with this new model. Of course, more importantly, to discuss/ seek help from other MSI GE72 2QL users.
Until today, I am still trying to find a review on this model online. What I got from google was mostly the links to the online stores that sell this model instead of the reviews.

Now, I am planning to add on more RAM to see whether it can solve my lagging problem. And frankly speaking, I am still worried that my notebook will hang when I am playing Dota2 and have to restart it.

Just wondering if anyone using the same model or any other MSI notebooks also experienced those problems? and what did you do to solve the problems?
Of course, laptop experts who are not using MSI are more than welcome to leave a comment as well.

Thanks in advance for those that take their time to read and comment on this.

Lag issues is most probably the RAM. Increase it to at least 8GB by today standards.

8Gb one stick would have better resale value.

Either one is fine actually. Just increase to 8Gb capacity and you should be good to go.

most probably is due to you low amount of ram, 4 GB is no enough. since you got play dota2, mind to share your laptop temperature, fps and more detail (such as which parts of keyboard get warm when gaming or how its built quality)
my friend is eye on this model, he need some good review to increase his confidence before he make order to this beast. icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

i suggest u upgrade to 8GB Ram to avoid lagging and u may also check Nahimic for sound volume.
