hi all. newbie here. i'm about to buy my first car. have lots of questions in mind:

1. how do you justify paying 10 K extra for the premium variant?
2. am I missing out on a lot of things by choosing exec?
3. does the exec variant got all the sound issues like what you all said from the first page? need input from exec owners.
4. is the push start malfunction a common issue to premium variant?
5. is it true that exec variant will waste petrol in the long run since exec variant have persona engine and heavier body than persona? or is this just a BS that salesman utter so that we would buy the premium?
*
1. If your budget allows, always go for CFE. There are always moments on road when you really need that extra power.

2. As a CFE owner, it's pretty biased of me to say so, but yes. Totally different driving experience.

3. It won't have all the noise issue, but the infamous chassis issue will likely be there, but it can be fixed either DIY or bring to SC.

4. So far I have never encountered ignition issue.

5. Technically yes.

I just confirmed back with the seller that I want to stick with my original choice which is CFE. was having doubts today after reading reviews from the Internet. after thinking for hours I decided to choose CFE because of all the safety features.
anyway what about the fuel consumption of your preve? CFE right?
*
All depends on how you take care of the car. I too was surprised to read many bad user experiences here, but I've owned my car for two years and it is still a very good car to me without any deteriorating performance or safety issue, albeit the 'Proton-synonym' issue like rattling and noises.

my logic was: why pay more for things that I won't use regularly.
somemore, can save on maintenance cost as well since the parts for non CFE kind of cheaper. let's not forget that there are more electronic thingies in CFE that can become faulty.

please counter my arguments guys. thanks
*
Which parts are you referring to? The only major differences are only the gearbox and engine. These do not need regular maintenance and Proton is now offering 7 years across their whole range. Other parts are totally the same, CFE or non CFE.

The only thing to be sure is to test drive both cars many times smile.gif

There are slightly higher maintenance. Stock spark plug is iridium for CFE, normal copper for IAFM.

Although one can use Mach 5 mineral oil for CFE too, but to safeguard against turbo coking, full synthetics are recommended.
*
Yeah like I said they do not need regular maintenance (as in every time the car is sent for service). Other than these 'per 60k km things', there is no difference in the maintenance cost between CFE and non CFE.

Engine braking, it is a feature.

Gonna visit proton showroom this weekend for preve 1.6 cvt .Kinda worry if i made big mistake as this is my first time buying car.. gulp
*
Not gonna lie to you, there are many minor problems, but none should be compromising safety.

Let say a Honda left the factory with 5 minor problems, this car would leave the factory with 15 laugh.gif

Hi preve sifus. Anyone know what's the optimum tyre pressure for preve?  smile.gif thanks
*
I put both front and rear at 35psi, 3-4psi higher than recommendation by Proton. You can never know the conditions of the roads in Malaysia.

It's something you get used to after a while. Better than having the rims bent and damaged.

Hearing all about your problems made me really dumbfounded sweat.gif

I've been driving my CFE for three years now and apart from minor problems, nothing really 'breaks down'.

Thus I'm more convinced that the batch with least problem is the 2013 batch sweat.gif

Limitation only the money.budget around 60k below.i prefer manual because my brother had saga but many problem in cvt. want to modification in piping and more sporty.
*
If you can, fork out some extra budget to get the CFE, just for the more powerful engine. I suggest test drive both units until you're satisfied, because every so often you can read that they regretted not getting the CFE version just to save a few Ks.

Hi ChuanHong,

Thank you for your insight.
The SA quoted me RM450. And I thought I should go with him to avoid warranty issues.
You think it would be safe (Warranty wise) to get it outside?
I don't mind going outside to get it done cheaper. Need to find somewhere in PJ to do it.

Thank you.
Yeah, will get the Preve CFE. Going to speak to the SA today.
He is giving 5K+3K (Born 1985) discount.

Thanks again!
*
Any installation will, or should, void the warranty, even done by authorised SA. But I've heard if it was to be done by Proton Glenmarie, warranty won't void.
However, most of the times SC will not care for the reverse camera installation because it does not involve any wire cutting and the HU already has the socket, just plug and play.

Preve CFE it is then.
Well, to be safe then, might as well ask the SA to install it. Since the showroom also has a service centre, will go back to them for service and such.

The reverse camera will be auto right? As in when I engage reverse, then it will automatically show the camera. Would suck if it is the kind where you need to switch it on the player to see whats behind.

Thanks mushy.
*
Depends on model, but all I've seen so far are automatic type.

No much difference between 5 and 7, but definitely noticeable from 1 after a few weeks of service. If got extra budget, please go for 7.

yo guise, wanna ask. my preve righthand frontlamp blew once in two month, is it normal?

now both my front lamp gone..had to rely on foglight during low light driving before change bulb.

since both my frontlamp gone..any suggestion on bulb that can last long? was thinking for led lamp ... or go for hid ? (this is the name right?)
*
If you go for HID, warranty will void and you will have problems with JPJ.

Have Proton called you for wire harness change? It's free as Proton has issued a recall for that. It should help as my bulbs no longer die in short period, so far.

Hi every1! Im newbie, just got my preve last raya promotion, mine is 1.6 cvt (at) iafm+, but got a prob, why everytime when it run downhill at 40-50kmph, the engine starts to roar? I had to brake until 15-20kmph to make it stop? Is this normal? Did I or the R&D guys at Proton miss something?
*
That's a feature, not a problem. Go read more on engine braking smile.gif
