has anyone purchased a surface laptop 3 in KL yet?
*
Not officially released in Malaysia yet. All the retailers are having clearance sales on SP6 and SL2 now, so should expect an announcement soon.

EDIT: I was around Low Yat so decided to go ask one of the sales guys in All IT. He said that the clearance sales for SP6 and SL2 is scheduled to last until end of December. And most likely we'll only see the Malaysian releases for the new products in early 2020, but even then they've not be told a firm date yet. If anyone else can verify that'll be great. Seems a bit long though sad.gif

And this is why Microsoft needs to make sure its marketing is on point especially in markets like Malaysia, to send the right message to the consumer.

The ProX isn't a do-it-all device because of ARM limitations. The salesguy in ThunderMatch for example needs to know this specifically and not upsell for the sake of it just because it's more expensive.

It really depends on use-case. Having read reviews and other Surface forums of people with similar use-cases as me, I think Windows on ARM will be perfectly fine for me. If someone needs an everything device, then the Pro7 is right there and cheaper biggrin.gif

QUOTE
Is the Pro X coming here too? I just bought the Surface Go.  Really want the Pro X because of its LTE especially. But very rarely Windows on Arm devices sold here.
It appears on the official MS website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-my/surface). Pro7 and Laptop3 are on pre-order now, but ProX just says "Coming soon".

Wanto ask right. My SP6 with the dock, the dock only support 2 display port. If I get the converter to hdmi from Microsoft is at around rm180...

But there are other brands cheaper. May I know anyone uses the converter? Can recommend Any converter to connect the dock? Or Microsoft is the best.

Thanks in advance

I have a MiniDP-HDMI dongle (cheap unknown brand from Lazada) to hook up with my Surface Dock. It really depends what you want to do with it, really. And I don't know much about refresh rates and stuff since it doesn't apply to most of what I do on the computer, but I imagine a decent brand dongle (whether Microsoft brand or not) will do the trick.

Actually now better go for SP7 or SP6?
I've checked in lazada and shoppee,  seems like not big difference in price between the 2.....
Or did I missed out any good deals?
*
If the price difference isn't much then SP7 for sure.

HI PAL

I JUST GET MY SP6 with type cover

I realised this SP6did not come with ms office?

Need to install?

Hardly any laptops come with MS Office pre-installed these days. You'll need to get your own MS Office license.

Hi guys..

Where to buy the Microsoft Surface Go? Some of the shop from Harvey Norman, SenHeng also do not have anymore.

While browsing the Shopee, they also have the Certified Refurbished the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Is it OK?

Which is better? The Surface Go or the Surface Pro 3?

Please advice guys..

Thank you.

If you're near PJ, a few friends of mine got their Surface Gos from Gloo in Digital Mall. But 8GB version running out fast it seems.

I'm worried about that too, I'm not willing to fork out that much just to repair it. That's why I'm researching ways to DIY repair this, it's gonna be junk either way regardless of if I left it to collect dust, recycle or break it while attempting to repair myself.
*
I think you should just go nuts on it. No loss to your either way. There aren't many (or any?) Surface repair people around here, so even if some random shop says they can do it, chances are that they're just as lost as anyone else. Go have fun with a little DIY!

Update on the DIY adventure, got the battery for around 180 MYR. Tried replacing it, ended up breaking the screen doh.gif, the screen didn't crack but there was artifacts on the display after re-assembled back. Either I still wasn't careful enough or the heat gun was too hot and damaged the screen. Here I thought I did it without breaking the screen since there's no visible crack whatsoever haha. Acquired a replacement screen for 380 MYR. Total repair cost 560 MYR, still way cheaper than getting 3rd party to repair it. I consider this a success and a good hands-on experience!  biggrin.gif

Guys I need help. My surface book 3 - 15 inch which i bought less than half a month ago died. I sent it to Microsoft. They sent me a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 instead of 1660ti.

What do I do?
*
Best option is to reach out to online support again and tell them how you got sent a Quadro unit as a replacement instead of the 1660ti. Unless if you're heavy into video editing and the like, I wouldn't recommend using the Quadro for normal consumer/gaming purposes, so I wouldn't contemplate keeping it even though it's supposed to be more expensive.

Significant performance after u use the Microsoft edge chromium? Have u move from chrome ? 🤔
*
Miles better on Edge Chromium compared to legacy Edge. I never used chrome, so cant compare performance. Online chatter seems like Edge Chromium is faster, uses less RAM than Chrome and better battery life than chrome, but I dunno

I do have it on my pc, automatic installed during updates. But on surface, it will automatic install or I have to install my self? I’m about to purchase surface go 2.
*
I didn't get the Go 2, but I think for now the out of box browser is still legacy Edge. Have to download Edge Chromium manually or I think it will auto-update via Windows Update. But someone can correct me if I'm mistaken

Battery swollen is not really an issue. I've had a SP4 and Book 1 since launch and no such issue. I do recognise that some people have these complaints, but it is hardly the norm. QC with the Book 3 has been up to par and no complaints so far from what I've seen.

Hopefully you find a buyer, Natalie! SP7 is a good machine. I got 2 for my business last month and the users have found them profoundly useful.

may be 1 year or 2 years later you will know.

Maybe time will tell for this particular unit. But from my experience with a boatload of Surface devices, this "risk" is hardly worth considering when buying a Surface device.

Hi,

I am currently using MBP13 2017 since 2018. Long story short, I hate working with Mac OS. Love the build quality and speed as it has never lagged since day 1 but I find that the workflow is much slower. I can live with that but not when I spend a lot of time sorting hundreds of photos.

Want to change back to Windows. Would love to have something like Surface Pro or Surface Book as it can be small like a tablet.

Love the design of HP Spectre 360 but I am a bit skeptical about the hinge hence I am leaning towards Surface Pro 6/7 or Surface Book 2. Is SP sufficient or should I get Book 2?

Thanks

Only ever reached out to MS support once years ago for the SP4 screen flickering replacement. Very good experience. Aside from that, no other issue which warranted contacting support

QUOTE(Kagekiyo @ Dec 4 2020, 10:50 AM)
Hi folks, i'm considering to purchase a Surface Laptop 3 i5 matte black 13.5 inch model for general productivity (i.e Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint), Video editing (rendering 1080p quality) and light Photoshop/ usage. I find the 3:2 aspect ratio to perfectly fit my needs compared to the wide 16:9/16:10 seen on the Dell XPS 9300.

Can anyone here using a Surface Laptop 3 advise on the following:

- Is the automatic adaptive brightness issue fixed by allowing the user to manual set this in the settings or is it something that still exists after firmware updates?
- Does anyone's unit suffer from the known screen crack issue that even Microsoft aknowledges to affect some models? (Source: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface...12-9a66c7df6167 & https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/e...racked_screen/)
- How is the average battery life like for basic productivity usage (as per the ones i mentioned above)?

Thanks!
*
I don't have a SL3, so cant answer your questions and will leave those to someone else. But just want to highlight that Surface Laptop 4 is estimated to be launching in Jan 2021 - which means possible arrival in Malaysia in Feb/March 2021. Just consider if you can wait, especially if you're into video editing since the SL4 should come with more powerful integrated graphics.

Sp4, battery expansions. Over 3 yrs by 1.5month still under paid replacement. Paid 1888 for the replacement on Saturday and received the replacement afternoon just now.

Parcel sent from SG because malaysia has no surface device center.
It is cheap even the replacement is the same spec with 90 days warranty only. Unfortunately i do need the unique portability and form of surface so older spec does not bother me at all.
Now anyone know how do i do with my exisiting battery pregnant version of SP4? never get to destroy a device before...

If want to dispose, you can recycle with e-waste recyling people like ERTH

Sifu's sekalian here, wanna ask a little bit about surface 7 pro.

I'm intended to upgrade my novel-writing rig from current acer swift 3 (2018 version) to a microsoft surface pro 7 or Surface pro X, but somewhat tied in between usefulness and also compatibility.

1st issue in mind (portability and usability)

16gb i7 / 256gb VS 8gb i5 / 128gb (Surface pro 7)
8gb sq1 arm chip / 128gb with LTE connection (surface pro x)

As per mentioned with all 3 spec above, my main use over this tablet pc is because Im using Onenote + few browsers + wikipedia, youtube, casual browsing and always in top brightness condition wherever I go.

Will 8gb surface pr0 7 be sufficient to support my demand? (10 to 20 browsers from youtube to wikipedia, one note, maybe some apps and file transfer once a while) or 16gb would be better for lifespan (over 3 years usage)?

Or the Surface Pro X would be an even better option because it comes with LTE connection (like Yes4g everywhere I go, can become hotspot unit)?

I will be using this unit for writing most of the time, so lightweight, easy to use, and can use for long without worry about system crash or outdated is important. Hardly gaming.
*
I have the 8GB SQ1 256GB Surface Pro X since about a year now. I'd say for your use-case, get the SPX. Mine is similar to yours, except I dont open 10-20 tabs in my browser, but I use more OneNote, Excel and Word. It works a treat and I love my SPX (it's my daily driver). Trust me, once you put a SIM card in there and enjoy the LTE anywhere, it's hard to go back to a non-LTE device. Totally worth it! Alongside the fact that it is thinner, lighter and has smaller bezels than the SP7.
