new or refurbished? my unit has been collected, awaiting for the replacement unit...

I believe all replacement units are refurbished - mine certainly is.

any signs of cosmetic wear and tear?  hmm.gif
*
Not that I can see. If it came in a new Surface Pro box, I would have though it's new (it didn't come in a new SP box).

Generally my experience with MS refurbished products so far is flawless - no physical markings on the device. I bought a refurbed Surface Book from the US a while back.

guys I'm contemplating between a Surface Pro 256GB/8GB i5 OR a Surface Book 2 256GB/8GB i5. Is there any real reason to buy the Surface Pro over the Surface Book 2 in this situation? Or are there any other recommendations? Perhaps some good deals?
*
It really depends on your use case. So the question you need to answer is: What do you intend to use your Surface for?

So excited for the Surface Go. It's amazing that Malaysia is listed in the list of countries it is releasing in straight upon launch.

A few more retailers have gone live. I saw the Instagram ads from GLOO earlier.

It seems the only promo all the sellers are in on is a Grab related promo: Grab Promo. Which honestly is a bit crap to me.

Performance wise is better than surface pro?
*
No, they're devices in different segments intended for different use cases. International reviews are out now for the Surface Go, might want to check those out to help paint a picture. It seems good so far!

I never use pen to write note.

What app is good to use to write note and draw instead of on paper?
*
I use OneNote for both pen and non-pen notes. It has great functions and syncs across all my devices.

I saw Lazada has the pre-order for surface pro go already.

10" it's kinda small for work IMHO. I am surprise actually when I saw the review guy was playing overwatch on it, even it's without gpu.
*
It does seem to be punching above its weight, which is great! This guy reports that Overwatch runs about 30fps on the 8GB version: https://youtu.be/oZAh0tydWe0

I wouldn't get a 10" device for a daily work driver, but I'm getting it for a secondary "carry around everywhere" type of device which allows me to get some stuff done on the move. Home and office already have a combination of desktop / Surface Book / Surface Pro 4, so it really depends on your use case and budget. If you have a fixed budget and need to buy one device for primary use (daily work/study), then for sure get a bigger and more powerful device instead of the Surface Go.

The biggest let down in this device is the Window S. It limits what you can install, however the good thing is we can reset it to Window 10 but it comes with a cost.  vmad.gif
*
No, Windows 10 S isn't as bad as you think.

If you want to bring it out of S-Mode, you literally only need to flip one switch in Settings. You don't even need to restart the computer. Then you are free to install any programmes you want.
*Edit: And it's free.

I'm leaving my Go in S-Mode though. As a secondary device, everything I need is on the Windows Store anyway.

What do you guys think about the
Microsoft Surface Go Intel Pentium Gold 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD + Type Cover Burgundy + Office 365 Home Bundle for RM2879?

Or this is better?

Microsoft Surface Pro - M3 / 128GB / 4GB RAM + Type Cover Burgundy for RM3818?
*
This is exactly your question: https://www.windowscentral.com/chime-surfac...p-m3-better-buy

Hope it helps. It seems that there's not much different performance-wise betweent he M3 and the Pentium Gold, so it depends on how you plan on using your device. Obviously the bigger screen is nicer to have if you're going to make it your primary everyday device, but the smaller form fact of the Go has its advantages as well.

Anyone pre-ordered the Surface Go from Lazada? If yes, have you received it? (edit: Lazada - Microsoft Brand Store)

My order timeline says: "Get by Tue 28 Aug - Sat 01 Sep", so I'm excited and checking for updates every day to see if it has changed.

But the status says "Your package has been packed." and it's been stuck that way since yesterday. cry.gif

Edit (30/8): Scrap that, it arrive today! And it's a beauty! wub.gif

Any Surface Go owners managed to receive their Grab vouchers yet? Already 10 working days but I did not receive mine.
*
I got mine. No email or anything to inform though. Had to go into the Grab app and then I suddenly saw a notification saying that I have the vouchers in my Rewards section.

I am torn between surface and ipad pro....arghhh
*
Depends on your use case. But having read the feedback of everyone with an ipad pro, the most important thing is this: The ipad pro CANNOT replace your computer. Despite what Apple's marketing might try and tell you.

I vote Surface all the way.

Anyone here facing a problem with Surface Book 2 whereby the USB ports are completely useless? And the computer struggles to switch between tablet and laptop mode on startup.
*
Under warranty? Send it back and say you got a defective unit. The USB port issue isn't common at all.

must i send it all the way to the States? Kinda regret changing from Macbook. Already put on an expensive wood skin, then now found out that my Windows 10 is plagued with problems (USB not detected, freeze issues and even smaller issues like not being able to open "settings")
*
You don't have to send it to the US. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/devices and log in to your Microsoft account where the device is registered, and follow the instructions to repair / get a replacement device. Most likely you'll need to send the current device away (but it'll be a Malaysian address) and then MS will send you a replacement.

A secondary device, primarily for note taking when meeting/discussing with clients.

As a portable device to bring along during traveling (instead of my 13' laptop which I find taking up a lot of space), to fit into a small sling bag/satchel for minor website editing, edit Facebook ads, Youtube, movies.
To use as a tablet, reading news, browsing web, watch videos.

I already have a laptop (Macbook Pro), so I am not "expecting" to use it as one.
*
I have the 8/128 S-GO since launch. It's one of the best Surfaces I've invested in. It works great for light computing - emails, browsing, website editing. And it's so small and light that I can bring it everywhere. You won't regret the purchase!

After reading all the threads, at this point of time is it still worth to go for surface go? Basically i am light user, just doing some microsoft office thingy, watching youtube, netflix and some of co software.
*
I'd say yes. It's an amazing device, using it right now. Unless if you want to wait and see what potential refresh will be announced in October, but who knows when Malaysia will get the new version for sale if there is one.

I’d still go for Surface Pro 7 if it was me. Icelake processor with more performance n twice the graphics performance from Surface Pro 6! And Pro 6 was already fast enough. Pro 7 comes with both USB-C and USB-A and a headphone jack which the X lacks.
So IMHO go for Pro 7 ,x86 architecture is more complete with Windows than ARM (Eg On ARM windows laptop you cannot even install Dropbox due to the architecture limitation)
*
My use case will be perfect for Windows on ARM. Work and business is all office applications and browser use. Leisure use mostly involves apps from the Microsoft Store. I don't use Dropbox (100% OneDrive usage, since I'm already paying for Office365 anyway) and Edge + Chromium Edge does everything I need on the browser front, so even on my full fledged machines currently I don't install anything non-Microsoft or outside the MS Store (my Surface Go is still in S Mode until now and I've not found anything lacking). So that's why I'd love to have the instant on and LTE capabilities of an ARM processor.

Will definitely be interesting to see how well the emulation layer runs though! icon_idea.gif The only issue now is to hope MS brings it to the Malaysian market *cough*SurfaceStudio*cough*
