This topic is very subjective...
Scenario 1: Good Money, No Interest, No Life No life means work until midnight everyday including sat and sun. Tough life dude Scenario 2: Good Money, No Interest, Got Life This is the best !!! Every year, you can spend the money to your travel or upgrade car or do more stuff. Or get latest computer gadgets !!! Scenario 3: No Money, Got Interest, No Life You work with passion. But end of the month having problem to pay bills, and financial issue. Tough life dude Scenario 4: No Money, Got Interest, Got Life This is interesting. You work with fun and passion. Money comes later. Sounds like your parent can support you financially. Scenario 5: Good Money, Got Interest, No Life This is best !!! Work with passion in the job !!! Scenario 6: Good Money, Got Interest, Got Life This is the ultimate Best !!! Dream Job dude !!! |

QUOTE(hazremi @ Nov 13 2006, 05:30 PM) well my case is more complicated,my interest is in multimedia but i studied in IT and lastly i am currently working in broadcast engineering industry, although i dont know anything about my current work,i learn about it and build my interest, now i have settled down and i like my current work. haha...mamat poyo dah bercerita Actually this is a very thin line...For me, as man (a potential breadwinner for family), we got to take care of our rice bowl and salary so that we can afford to actually provide sustainance for the family. Which means, we work for the one who pays us most and provides us with enough security. Take for instance Mr Hazremi (stated above, who happened to be my ex-rummie) he was a multimedia freak and he even got a chance to actually work in an international based multimedia based firm. But still, he quit and joined Astro, because, he felt he was paid more, which could afford him a nice lil comfort when he sleeps at night. And the calculation is really simple, he is paid more, hence he learns about his new job, and once he get accustomed, he is comfortable and settles down in his new job. Which of course what we'll naturally face (although not all) Money is the ultimate dangling carrot. And from there comes a motivation because u know, at some point, you'll get rewarded monetarily even more even if it means learning something new. Whether we like it or not is another matter, but juz make sure your boss likes u and what u are doing. I may sound cynical but unfortunately my friend, it is a sad truth in todays working profession. |

QUOTE(arthurlwf @ Nov 16 2006, 06:00 PM) This topic is very subjective... There is another and equal side to this equation. Scenario 6: Good Money, Got Interest, Got Life This is the ultimate Best !!! Dream Job dude !!! Can you afford to look for a better job?? Some times, people are stuck at certain job because they live from paycheck to paycheck. They have absolutely no savings. So, they cannot afford to lose or quit their current job even though they hated the job. On the other hand, a person that has substantial savings and live a frugal life can choose to work at a less stressful and low paying job if he/she wants to. You choose your lifestyle and your life. dreamer |

Haha! Interesting! Money is important in reality. Without money, there can be no interest... Take me as a example. I love astronomy. Well, to hook on to this, I'll need a telescope, which in average will cause few thousands.

QUOTE(maniac_rage @ Nov 12 2006, 09:30 PM) Interest first for me. From interest comes passion. That's when you do your job with all your heart. You don't care how much you earn from it. You do it not because of money, but because you want to do it. Agree, to me, in any job you do will always find people who are very interested in the job. It's very hard to compete with those people when you dont have interest. Sure, we can work hard but interest make a big difference in performance. If we cant compete, hard to get pay raise/promotion.That's very important because working is a very repetitive process. You do the same thing and face the same people everyday. That's why you need something to motivate yourself or otherwise you will be worn out easily. QUOTE(dreamer101 @ Nov 13 2006, 12:51 AM) For those people that say their interest is very important for them. I would ask them a very simple question: how do you know that you are VERY interested in something?? If I do things that I'm talented at, does that counts as interest ? Is there such thing as talented but not interested ?IMHO, you CANNOT say that you are very interested in something unless you are willing to do it for free. For example, you have a degree/diploma in IT but you say that you are very interested in ART. So, what have you done in your SPARE time for ART?? Do you study and do ART even though you do not have a job and course work in ART?? IMHO, most people only talk about their are interested in something. But, it is only talk. They do not really love that thing. Dreamer P.S.: Say what you mean and mean what you say. QUOTE(AMDs-PoOp @ Nov 13 2006, 12:55 AM) Big money and promotions are for excellent people, can you be a winner without interest ?QUOTE(Pennywise @ Nov 13 2006, 09:44 AM) Say you got a job offer in Shell as System Administrator or something, but then you got very much interest in programming which only a small IT company wanna hire u... Which will u go for? I say you find a programming job that pays well. SAP programming, mainframe programming for example.QUOTE(hazremi @ Nov 13 2006, 05:30 PM) well my case is more complicated,my interest is in multimedia but i studied in IT and lastly i am currently working in broadcast engineering industry, although i dont know anything about my current work,i learn about it and build my interest, now i have settled down and i like my current work. I think you accidentally found a hidden interest in yourself. |

Do not be so afraid to answer your own question. If you are willing to do something for free, you are interested in it. Or else, you are not. It has NOTHING to do with whether you are talented or not. For example, are you willing to do X at spare time eventhough you are doing it for free?? Einstein like to play violin. He had absolutely NO talent and play horribly. But, he kept on playing and he loved it. He was interestedin violin. Dreamer |
