I am currently on a VIP20 plan and living in Klang Valley area. Can I upgrade to VIP50 or is it only applicable for new application? Do I need to wait for a call from TM telemarketer?

Hi thanks! I went to TM Point Muzium just now to upgrade to Unifi 50. The guy said will be upgraded within 24 hours. No need to off and on modem also.

Activation only takes 1 hour huh?

My OCC Unifi also subscription updated but service start date remains the same.

BTW I didn't receive any SMS yet even though my OCC Unifi has been updated. Will check later once I reach home from office if my speed has increased.

Reach home yesterday speed upgraded automatically without needing to reboot the modem. Youtube and browsing is fine except when I use VPN to watch Hulu and Netflix the speed is slow. Not sure if related to my package or US to Malaysia server problem. Will check again tonight.

I doubt telemarketer will approach VIP20 user. I have two accounts, one is VIP5 and the other VIP20. Only the account with VIP5 was called for promotion upgrade or discount.

For the VIP20 since 2011 never received any such offer. The TM Point service staff also said to register VIP5 first then wait for call offer which from my experience was only within 2 weeks after installation.

I have been using the 50MBps for about a week now. The first few days speed was spiky (37MB to 49MB) so I replaced TM's router with my previous Asus RT-N66U (450MBps) router last night and my speedtest went through the roof at constant 51MB to 53MB.

TM's router stated can handle up to 150MBps but in reality the router's efficiency unlikely to be 100%.

This is just my experience and don't blame me if you purchase an expensive router and situation still the same

I think VPN service suffered as I also watch Hulu and Netflix and found it takes longer buffering time (I also upgrade from VIP20 to Unifi 50). If I am not mistaken VPN service relies on upload speed as well but 10MB upload should be enough as my other house use VIP10 but watching Hulu and Netflix is a breeze.

Anyway as per my post above I haven't tried watching Hulu yet after changing my router. Will check later tonight and update.

Interesting.. So you subcribe only DNS service right to watch netflix? No need VPN service? There is two packages offered on their website.

Thanks for the info. I'm using ExpressVPN and subscribed for 1 year. Actually I am satisfied with their speed until upgrade to Unifi 50 recently. But will check again later tonight using the ASUS router.

Hulu and Netflix no buffering at all now after changing to my ASUS router. Another two variables to consider is my dynamic IP might have changed since I restart the modem and also I set Google DNS in my router instead of Auto.

I can safely say it is better to upgrade the router if we are subscribing to Unifi 30 or 50. The speed is really stable after upgrade.

Why do you want to upgrade from VIP10? The Unifi 50 I subscribed for my parents house because 8 people use internet at a time excluding guests. I found VIP20 is not enough when everyone is streaming hence why I upgraded.

My own house uses VIP10 and no problem watching Hulu and Netflix via VPN service. Only my wife and myself use the internet though since my son still a baby.

Tried it last night no problem watching HD. You use DNS or VPN service to watch Netflix?

Google DNS just set for my router. I use my android tv box (MINIX) to watch hulu and netflix using ExpressVPN app.

For streaming and gaming stick with VIP20 as it is more stable. But if you are a heavy downloader/torrent then go for Unifi 50. Hopefully they will introduce symmetrical upload/download for Unifi 50 in the near future.

Use of Wifi extender will always reduce speed 50%. The best is using Wireless Access Point to maintain speed either laying out LAN cables from router or using homeplug.

Really love the Unifi Controller software. Can monitor the clients and APs.

By the way it is an Access Point. Different from Wireless Extender as it uses a backbone connection (LAN/CAT cables).

Try using channel 6. The recommended channels for 2.4GHz are 1, 6 and 11.

Just curious if we ask them to reset our port, do we need to restart our modem & router?

My own experience the contractor didn't ask me to email my IC copy. Just on the day they came they ask to look at my IC to confirm address before proceeding with the installation.
