anyway the optimist in me predicts cheaper 30 and 50mbps. and the obvious price reduction for 5, 10 and 20mbps (because why else would anyone bother, especiall for 20mbps; when 30 and 50mbps will be almost the same in price) hmm.gif if it's however a 100mbps announcement then no point unless it comes with price reduction rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(GarubaSwey @ Aug 17 2015, 08:44 PM)
new cheaper package incoming? 100mb for rm60?

highly unlikely. the only reason myrepublic said they could do that is cause they have a leaner staff count. tmnut in much bigger in comparison, hence their operating costs.

most important is all the package prices must be down and cheaper since rumored earlier 30MB gonna be RM169(without hyptv) and 50MB 219 (without hyptv) .
*
telemarketers called me offered 30mbps ruby for 210.....

i thought can get a cheaper 30mbps from telemarketers .... apparently for me it wasn't the case. so i told them to fuck off rolleyes.gif not with those exact words, but you know what i mean laugh.gif

I think it is trying to say that packages up to 50Mbps is available.
Look at the right side, it says 20Mbps (VIP 20)
*
sad.gif

looking at these packages 30/5 vs 10/10 .... same price..... obviously 30/5 for same price will be the better choice. only those who really need higher upload will get the 10 or 20 package.

but the 50 will be 10 upload vs the 20/20 *most likely same price so same situation.

well this was dissapointing rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(fuzzy @ Aug 19 2015, 12:47 PM)
It's already reduced, its RM169 for 30Mbps, you just have to take one of the HyppTV package at rm30 onwards thus it become rm199..

That's their trick.
*
i wonder though if there is a consumer protection law against forcibly bundling non essential products (in this case hypptv package) to an internet subscription to forcibly over charge the customer for a product i would argue most would not want or even use :/

iptv is okay cause thats part of the technology platform (cause who knows maybe in future there may actually be content worth having. at least astro works over iptv albeit only on maxis ftth so far i think). but the issue now is forcibly bundling in extra hypptv package, ontop of the existing basic hypptv, without offering the consumer a choice to get additional packages or not....) seems a bit too much if you ask me shakehead.gif

QUOTE
Tying (informally, product tying) is the practice of selling one product or service as a mandatory addition to the purchase of a different product or service. In legal terms, a tying sale makes the sale of one good (the tying good) to the de facto customer (or de jure customer) conditional on the purchase of a second distinctive good (the tied good). Tying is often illegal when the products are not naturally related. It is related to but distinct from freebie marketing, a common (and legal) method of giving away (or selling at a substantial discount) one item to ensure a continual flow of sales of another related item.

Some kinds of tying, especially by contract, have historically been regarded as anti-competitive practices. The basic idea is that consumers are harmed by being forced to buy an undesired good (the tied good) in order to purchase a good they actually want (the tying good), and so would prefer that the goods be sold separately. The company doing this bundling may have a significantly large market share so that it may impose the tie on consumers, despite the forces of market competition. The tie may also harm other companies in the market for the tied good, or who sell only single components.

One effect of tying can be that low quality products achieve a higher market share than would otherwise be the case.
Tying may also be a form of price discrimination: people who use more razor blades, for example, pay more than those who just need a one-time shave. Though this may improve overall welfare, by giving more consumers access to the market, such price discrimination can also transfer consumer surpluses to the producer. Tying may also be used with or in place of patents or copyrights to help protect entry into a market, discouraging innovation.

Tying is often used when the supplier makes one product that is critical to many customers. By threatening to withhold that key product unless others are also purchased, the supplier can increase sales of less necessary products.

In the United States, most states have laws against tying, which are enforced by state governments. In addition, the U.S. Department of Justice enforces federal laws against tying through its Antitrust Division.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tying_(commerce)

well it is related, problem is it's an additional hypptv package ONTOP OF THE ALREADY EXISTING basic hypptv. so cause it's extra (because it's not the basic hypptv package), then i'd say thats tying doh.gif

but whether we have laws that protect against this i don't know rclxub.gif

the last time i use hypptv was when i was babysitting at my brother's place cause he just moved in and only had that. the only thing i watch was the fox HD for movies, thats it.... nothing else to watch rclxub.gif

now i watch.... alternatives which..... cheaper.... which has 100000x times the content doh.gif lel...

maybe if they offered an astro package for the same price, then maybe i wouldn't so upset with this forcible bundling. but this.... rolleyes.gif

Unfortunately, we have the 2.6b problem, and TM being anti competitive is the least of most people's worry at the moment  sad.gif

actually i think people more worried about the currency right now.

i just bought a hgst ultrastar 4tb drive from ebay in usdollars....

1. usd... 1:4 against myr shocking.gif
2. shipping costs.... Usd also....

only saving grace is no gst for online purchases, but still i got screwed in other ways doh.gif

i was at least hoping for some good internet broadband news but now this rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(stephantsen @ Aug 19 2015, 02:17 PM)
Monopoly make their math fail 10 mbps and 30mbps same price
*
yeah.... they wanted to keep the status quo so sure they added 30 mbps download, but they reduce upload speed.... so still make 10 and 20 viable if only for their upload speed, without having to reduce prices ..... very cut throat strategy :/

and ironically though prices for 30 and 50 reduced like some other poster kindly pointed out, we are still effectively paying just as much as before thx to other shenanigans rolleyes.gif

PS: actually reducing upload speed for 30 and 50 to 5 and 10 respectively wasn't that big a deal, cause still pretty decent for most users; and if it was a choice between more dl speed versus a lower dl but same ul, it's an easy choice which people rather get at the same price point. but what really irked people was 10 and 20 no price reduction despite big difference in dl speed. even the slight upload speed not sure how they can still justify at the same price rolleyes.gif

Is this a tactic from TM for existing VIP10 subscribers already paying @RM199 to upgrade to UNIFI30 and force customers to subscribe to their HyppTV pack (Aneka/Varnam/Ruby/Jumbo)?

Seems like they are desperate to get as many subscribers to their HyppTV before it is too late. Heard that Netflix may be officially coming to Malaysia, and also we now have IFLIX from RM10 a month...so some competition there.
*
thats why their using tying method to force people to being in their hypptv paying userbase....

iflix , and rumored netflix soon to come to malaysia, and current existing astro iptv.....and other.... sweat.gif are still way better.

QUOTE(mechakucha @ Aug 19 2015, 07:19 PM)
RM199 is the official price (excl. GST) for VIP10 that only comes with the Free-to-Air basic HyppTV channels.

I was previously one of the VIP10 subscribers that continued to pay RM199 (excl. GST) for almost 2 years until I decided to upgrade to UNIFI50 last month for RM249 (+Ruby Pack for HyppTV +Free Call, excl. GST).

I wasn't lucky like others in this forum that got call from Telemarketers for RM169/179 VIP10 offer.

telemarketer called me too but for 30mbps :/ no discounted price either.

On a side note, the unbundling of HyppTV from the core internet plans was also something TM had discussed about in the planning stages.

i wonder though, is this source from tmnut themselves hmm.gif ? or is it just public gossip. did anyone here attend can verify on this, and what their conclusion on the matter was, and whether this will be something down the line anytime soon ?

Nahh i never use any download manager before
Normal download thru browser & wget is enough for me.by thr way,am not having the issue anymore biggrin.gif
*
internet download manager is very reliable. you can use multiple connections for the single download to max out download speed via https smile.gif you should try it sometime.

some servers though are restrictive and would usually set a connection limit per user, and make excessive connection beyond the allow limit to timeout. and in even more restrictive cases they would temporarily ban your ip if their servers is getting hammered too much (cause they probably think your part of a ddos attack rolleyes.gif )

so 4-8 connections may be fine. i'm using 32 atm laugh.gif

IDM also has a neat feature for some servers that allow pause/resume. meaning you can pause a download then resume later and it will work correctly. but not all servers will allow that :}

as for torrent downloads use torrent downloader client, for which i recommend tixati. It's been reported that some exploits been found for some of the popular torrents clients including utorrent. so i no longer recommend using the older adware free version, but instead tixati which is constantly updated and adware free and efficient like how utorrent use to be.

i have received a call again from TM for upgrade to 30Mbps, i tried to "convinced" her give me a pure internet package only,  i even said want to cancel the order, but she insist hpyytv is a "must" ,  and she said never heard any "september package" which is no  hpyytv  sad.gif  , she maintaining the FOC fixed line call to me wihch is same with VIP 5 & 10  smile.gif
Unifi 30Mbps +ruby pack is rm209 (b4 GST), unifi 2 yr contract, ruby pack 1 yr contract.  after one year  you  can cancel the rubypack, but u still need to pay RM199  for pure unifi  -0-""  apa ini lah........

ooo didn't know ruby etc only 1 year and can unsubscribe at that. but no discount once subscribed after a year ? wtf vmad.gif

The reason is, I have an extremely unreasonable family member who insists on turning on torrents at max speed. Each time we tell him to cap, he throws a bloody hissy fit. Then insist on sucking up every bit of bandwidth anyway. Rest of the family cannot use internet because of one person who don't know what 'sharing' is.
sorry to hear that hmm.gif

well thats not a isp issue.

you have to
1. consider getting a higher dl speed package either 30 or 50 mbps by the sound of it
2. configure router QOS to forcibly limit bandwidth. i'm not an expert on this configuration so you'd have to look elsewhere for this kind of support. But i recommend using a tomato router using shibby's version, because QOS is quite advanced.

PS: remember to set a password to the router they don't know about, or they'll just access then remove the qos settings. also if they connect to the internet direct, and bypass router altogether, they can circumvent the qos restrction, albeit making themselves vulnerable connecting to the internet directly without a router protecting them. Or they could use another router they own themselves, and connect to that, instead of the other one you had QOS setuped on hmm.gif

...sounds like though, you really need to have a talk with this family member to explain their not the only ones using the internet, and should be fair to other members in the family.

if it's a child, maybe a good spanking is in order icon_idea.gif lelz..

personally athough i use up most of the bandwidth, i still have the sense to limit bandwidth when other people using bandwidth intensive stuff like netflix during the same time as my usage over the net doh.gif

30-50 too mahal though. Also my building's limit is 20 i think? Because vdsl not true fiber. Old 30-40 year old building also.

Well, if talking is possible he wouldn't be throwing a fit for the past 10 years. Sudah 31 years old can't spank also tongue.gif

hm... maybe psychiatrist ?

hm... 30mbps is same price as 10mbps doh.gif

lowest package is 5mbps. going up to 10mbps which cost just the same as 30mbps (which is what you want) isn't that much more hmm.gif shoulder consider this. hm... 20mbps... i honestly don't think it's worth it cause your paying more than 30mbps package and for what..... 20mbps upload speed which nobody really cares about most part. it's a shame :{

tomato shibby is a third party firmware router. only select routers are supported doh.gif

ok my 30mbps/5 just went live....

so far my downloads are faster than i'm use to. like usually i'd tab out do other stuff then check later on download. first thing i notice download is done when i check back, whereas before i could still see it still downloading. as such i didn't really get to look at the download speed on torrent cause it downloaded faster before i tabbed back to it to check how fast it's downloading lelz...

according to speedtest it does score 30/5 but overseas to us i got 20/5 hm.....

well from real world testing, i open a 1080p 60fps youtube and it played almost instantly after a quick cache. also fast forward, same thing.

i haven't tested with 4k if there such a thing on youtube, but i don't have 4k reso monitor anyway so... rolleyes.gif

i haven't quited observed how high my torrent download speeds get... but when i have the chance i'll try and see. by rights it should be hitting 1.2 x 3 = 3.6 mb/s ?
