2 years ago I used my laptop's OEM Win 7 to buy the Win 8 promo upgrade. However, I installed the upgrade on my desktop. Which OS is illegal, the Win 7 or Win 8? How can I legalize my Win 7 again? If I get a new Win 8 key and activate it, will this make my Win 7 valid or legal? Thanks

Thanks hm, complicated situation. windows doesnt have backward compatibility with license key so, if u got key for win 8, the previous pirated will stay pirated. same goes to windows 10. win 7 / 8 which are pirated and then legally update to win 10, the previous os will be marked as pirated and u will get very basic installation of win 10. thats they play the trick

Yeah I think both are genuine key but it's just illegal what I have done. Now the thing is I want to make sure that my Win 7 OEM that is actually genuine and came with my laptop stays genuine. So if I uninstalled Win 8 or used a new key for Win 8, will this be like I chose to 'revert' back to my Win 7? Validity test for my Win 7 still says it's genuine. Both my OS are activated.
If I wanted to purchase a license from the American Windows Store online because it's cheaper, is that illegal?

QUOTE(malayo @ Jul 28 2015, 06:14 PM) less than RM 100 at lelong lel Thanks but I did manage to buy Win 8 Pro at that time. Frankly I think it was an upgrade. I might just buy Win 10 retail later instead of upgrading through Win 8.1 however I will take a look through Lelong. I may just have trust issues if it is so cheap. Thanks

QUOTE(malayo @ Jul 28 2015, 06:12 PM) 7 pro can only upgrde to 8 pro, from my past experience. My laptop had a preinstalled Win7 Home premium. Then I purchased the Windows 8 Upgrade Offer $15 back in 2013 which comes with a win8 pro license key. When I upgrade to win 8 it becomes win8 pro and stays as pro from win8.1 to win10 FCU.
