Hallo Techies! biggrin.gif

I Need some help. I recently won a Samsung LA 32R51B LCD TV, installed it and now have the following problems:
1)Astro transmission is not clear, its like watching VCD quality from PStreet
2)The color scheme is not suited, as in its too bright in certain places it really messes the overall picture quality
3)When watching DVDs, picture in the foreground is reasonably crisp but the images in the background go out of focus. I notice that sometimes the TV seems to be trying to focus on the images as well.
4) When watching DVDs, the images look fine except when the pictures seem to be shot in bright light/daylight . What happens is that the characters seem to have unbalanced brightness on them, i.e whichever side of their body facing the light becomes too bright/white.

Does anyone else have the same problem? Appreciate the response. rclxub.gif

Dude!! I posted this in the HDTV thread hours ago laugh.gif

1.Same goes to my samsung,i suggest kicking up the sharpness and color.
2.Lower the brightness, kick up the contrast.
3.U might wanna use a Progressive scan or HDMI DVD player. Avoid Composite and S-Video cables if possible!
4.No.2 could help u with this one.

If this still doesn't help, I suggest u get a proffesional calibrator to come to your house. It costs money, but it helps heaps.

Whatever PSPboy said.

1) LCD Tvs usually have problems with Astro. I suggest using an Svideo cable from your Astro decoder to your TV, and following his suggestions.

4) Black levels have always been a problem with LCD TVs. Not much you can do except adjust the settings and use better cables (ie component).

Hope this helps!

Well, Samsung always claimed that they have the highest contrast and brightness ratios in the market but if compared to Sony's Bravia series and Panasonic' Viera series, I swore that the latter were much better looking when fed with standard definition signals and yeah, black levels sucked for LCDs but are great for games because the colours are more vivid and their panels are sharper than plasma ones. There are pros and cons but future LCDs will be much better when they can render more shades of gray, most LCDs are using 10-bit colour, hopefully, one day, they'll be using above 10-bit colour, that should render blacks much better. I wouldn't dare to use the word picture perfect but at least it comes close to the black levels of a normal CRT tv.

The problem lies mainly in Astro. Not LCD TV. Astro PQ is poor and it is in 4:3 ratio. Once you try to fit a SD pic (576p PAL) from Astro into HD panel of Samsung, its internal scaler will try to fit the signal into its native rez panel. Hence, it will be 'enlarge' (in this case 'overblown'), making the picture looks coarse.

Using S-Video will help a little. But, I do hope Astro will upgrade its broadcasting system, which will not materialise in this 2 years.

Good feedback, sunauto and htkaki.

Have tested the Samsung on an Xbox360 - slightly grey black levels as always, but overall acceptable. Astro looks okay too.

Htkaki: IINM the native res Astro feeds out of the decoder is 480i, which of course makes it even worse smile.gif

All the while I thought it was 576p since it is PAL signal. Didnt know it is only 480i. Now, that really explain the poor PQ. My bad.
