History: I play at both SEA & AU server during after-work hour & weekend, & I play mostly with my AU friends while solo at SEA server (about 50:50 distribution according to dotabuff.com).
Connection: TM Streamyx 8mbps
Ping detection: Dota 2 in game console, reading from "dota_net_graph 1" *NOT -ping*
Disclaimer: Please understand that your result may vary as myself have different ping result from my house and workplace to AU server. Tunnel program basically reduce the hop (hence optimize) to specific country, therefore if your SEA connection is optimal, then tunnel service does not do much, and may also increase ping.
Tools:
1. WTFast provides free basic user (forever trial it seems).
2. BattlePing (hereinafter BP) & PingZapper (hereinafter PZ) has free trial period.
3. PureVPN is a paid VPN service.
Method: one time result except WTFast, it could be temporary high ping during my test.
Default ; SEA: 80-100 ; AU: 350-400+
WTFast ; SEA: 80-100 ; AU: 180-200
BP & PZ ; SEA: 90-120 ; AU: around 270
PureVPN ; SEA: 100-120 ; AU: 210
My conclusion:
1. Best result for me is WTFast basic free, does not affect local server & reduced ping to AU by 50%. & it does not intervene with your daily internet (whereas PureVPN affects the whole PC connection).
2. My opinion with BP & PZ is that may work elsewhere but it is not optimal for SEA -> AU.
3. PureVPN affects local server (SEA) & also slightly higher ping to AU compare to WTFast basic.
Would like to hear your result if you have different connection (Unifi, Maxis Fibre or play through 3G etc.)! If you have good experience with certain VPN, do let me know too.
VPN Comparison to lower ping! (SEA & SEA to AU)
