Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin, there also Christians who refuse to use the word "Allah" as the name of god.
http://www.danielpipes.org/comments/185481 QUOTE 10. The Indonesian/Malay and the Middle Eastern Bible translations erroneously use the word 'Allah' to refer to the God of the Bible. Even though the argument that it is not an exclusive word for the Muslims because it pre-dates Islam and that it is currently used by Arabic speaking Christian minority, this Islamic deity called 'Allah' is never found in the Hebrew text of the Bible. QUOTE The Islamic propaganda machine in the West is actively pushing for the use of the word Allah instead of God in the Western languages, especially in English. The sole purpose of this push is to promote Islam and render it an acceptable mainstream religion alongside Christianity in the West, not just from man's perspective but from God's. ......... Arabic-speaking Christians should continue to use the word Allah in their language to address God since it is their generic word for the one true God, even though the understanding of His character is horribly messed up in Islam, which happens to share the same Arabic language. The Arab Christians will always be challenged to maintain that distinction and to remain biblical. The Christians in the West should not be entangled with the moon-god theory, especially when witnessing to Muslims. In addition, English-speaking believers should resist the use of Allah in their own language and refrain from using it in any English Christian media or publications aimed at Muslims. May the Lord fuel our evangelism to Muslims in the U.S.A. and abroad with wisdom, passion and love! ......... QUOTE Several years ago, a bishop in the Netherlands attracted controversy when he argued that Christians should call God “Allah” in order to lower theological tensions. He also argued that calling God “Allah” would be commonplace in Christian churches within a century and that this would lead to a synthesis of Islam and Christianity. More recently, an Islamic court in Malaysia ruled that only Muslims can use the name “Allah” in print publications. “The usage of the word will cause confusion in the community,” the chief judge ruled. Oddly enough, Christians may well agree with this Islamic judge. To call God “Allah” is to invite confusion. ............. Our challenge is to speak truthfully about God, and the only way we can do that is to use the names God gave Himself. The God of the Bible is not Allah, and Allah is not the God of the Bible. Any confusion about that undermines the very Gospel we preach. both side also have golongan mudah keliru. |

All I get from here is pot calling kettle black and "wuss who retreated 50 steps laughing at wuss who retreated 100 steps". Does that mean because both are black therefore double negative = positive liao ones? |

In terms of malay or Indonesian speaking, this side of Nusantara, for sure will sure since the Alkitab has it. Plus all religious materials(including sunday school materials for kids), whether original or translated , has Allah. And the recognised language is Bahasa Indonesia, not BM, since Indonesia has largest number of malay speaking Christians. It's a no brainer. The complexities of translation has been discussed during the court case ie Lord God =>Tuhan Allah This post has been edited by eaglehelang: Jul 21 2015, 12:10 AM |
