QUOTE
Famed game producer Hironobu Sakaguchi of Mistwalker and developer Artoon present the highly anticipated Xbox 360(tm) exclusive Blue Dragon. Featuring the character design of Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball Z and music by Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy, Blue Dragon is an epic role-playing game that centers on a young boy named Shu and several of his friends.

These unlikely heroes possess the power to control phantom shadows that mirror the actions of their masters, giving Shu and his comrades miraculous strength and magical powers.

The warriors can create and develop their combat styles by utilizing different types of Shadow Change, including Sword, Assassin, and Power Magic. Shu and his friends must use the shadows as weapons and wield their skills to save their world from impending doom.

Encountering various people on a planet where numerous ancient ruins remain, the characters and their shadows travel through a world full of mysteries and illusions, where the slightest touch can cause reactions of unparalleled magnitude.

Finally! A Japanese RPG on the 360 and Akira Toriyama! Looks like its a copy cat of Draqon Quest so won't be seeing any super saiyan in the game.

The trailer had japanese voice actors and english subs. I hope they retain that for the Asian release.

Anyone else looking forward to this? Only 2-3 more weeks and it will be out.

Well....PA shows that the Asian version is Japanese language sad.gif

Hope it ain't true, but I think seems likely, considering how little time between Jap release and Asian release. EM took at least 3-4 months before they released the English Asian version....

That video was shown at X'06 event. Since most of the event's attendees doesn't understand Japanese (and the game's audio hasn't been dubbed in English), the video was subtitled.

I think the chance of seeing the Asian release subtitled in English is pretty slim considering the release date for both Japanese & Asian version is very close.

Seeing that Singapore's Xbox website list Blue Dragon in their upcoming game list, we might have hope. But remember that this is the same website that says that Dead Rising will be released in Singapore in August; which in the end, never happen.

Finally, a possible reason to actually buy an XBOX360.

Well, hopefully it doesn't stinks, or there's no reason to buy one again.

I wonder if Goku will make a cameo appearance in the game...smile.gif

360 game sitting pretty on Famitsu list ... really?

user posted image

We think it's about time to feel the ground, folks, it may be a bit frigid. Blue Dragon -- Microsoft's latest answer on the big standardized test that is Japanese game market penetration -- is showing initial signs of acceptance. Not just regular "ho-hum" acceptance, but enough to turn some heads (assuming Microsoft didn't hire people to vote).

In a recent Famitsu poll, Blue Dragon somehow clawed its way up to #3 on the list of most anticipated titles. Blue Dragon managed to knock off big hitters like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Twilight Princess, #4 and #6 respectively. The big, white box also managed to pull another nod with Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, which fell in at #15.

Microsoft is getting some much needed help in boosting its image, especially now that the PS3 has finally landed (in limited quantities anyway) in the public's grubby hands. Of course, Blue Dragon's big push won't mean much if MS can't keep the Japanese-friendly games flowing; Japanese gamers are known for being fickle and trading in game machines after finishing a game.

Associating him to a game is bound to generate anticipation..

3-discs? Any source that confirms this?

Edit:

Anyway, if it turns out to be true that Blue Dragon comes in 3-discs, I'll enjoy changing the discs mainly because it felt like an achievement. On my Playstation days I used to boast about it with my friends.

"Yeah I'm on disc 3 now"
"No way dude! You beat the final boss on disc 2?"

According to the thread you linked:

QUOTE
Blue Dragon is now officially a series, in an interview Sakaguchi reveals a sequel is planned.
rclxms.gif

I wonder what the sequel will be like. The story continues from Blue Dragon 1's ending or each Blue Dragon game has different story & character like Final Fantasy series?

Wow 3 discs...that would be good..I dont mind changing discs and knowing JRPGs, you don't change disc that often.

I hope Blue Dragon series is a continuation. I don't really like Final Fantasy series style. Feels like the name is used just to generate hype.

I believe Sakaguchi is trying to create a series just like the Final Fantasy, I hope it will have as much side quest like the Final Fantasy so we can play it for 100+ hours. Wonder why it need 3 discs? Anyone know how the download content work?

PS: I dont think so, Final Fantasy is such a high quality. The reason someone else dont like it is because they put their expectation too high.

There is only a short period between the release of Japanese version and Asian version. I believe they wont have enough time to complete the translation on the sub. A few more weeks the game is out then we will know how is it.

Well, i got some news some of you might like to know. Blue Dragon get 37/40 from Famitsu review. here is the translation,

Storytelling is very effective and nicely done, Battle system is easy to handle and well balanced,
Having mass appeal for newbies as well.
Gamers will be satisfied with depth in battle, and tons of hidden things around objects.
We can say BD is very traditional but very evolved RPG.
-- Score 9 --

It feels like traditional epic RPG revived with high-end technologies.
Softly and heart warming visuals.very customizable grow-up system with depth.
Effects and cutscenes are not so flashy, but techniques of storytelling are really skills.
-- Score 9 --

Well balanced RPG with authority. Battle is very deep, Kudos to Shadow system with lot of categories and skills,
And some nifty systems like making enemies fought each others.
The story is very compelling, each events have moving dramas.
One thing that depressed me a little was there is a feature to check enemy's poo.
-- Score 9 --

Battles and UIs include command directions are totally stress-free.
You can play for hours w/o stress, This is relatively uncommon for typical RPGs.
We could find joy of Toriyama's artworks, even in movies and battles.
And I really love the music on boss battle, performed by Ian Gillan.
-- Score 10 --

--- This weeks "summary" must buy! --
Reviewer1:You gamers must play BlueDragon and better to try spreading this for non-gamers.
Reviewer2:RPG gamers won't have any regret for buying BlueDragon.
Reviewer3:I can recommend BlueDragon for everyone. Cutting edge but Retro feeling. I'd rather say those kids will love it.
Reviewer4:BlueDragon is very solid, Ian Gillan's boss music made dug up old CD and listen in "Speed King"

Apparently the Japs love it, judging by the 10,000 pre orders for the 360 Blue Dragon bundle.

Well, there are more games coming out. Notable names include:

1. Lost Odyssey (From Mistwalker)
2. Project Syphleed (err cant remember the exact spelling) - From Square Enix

And about 100+ titles coming out soon.

We difinately need to see how the Japanese market reaction toward some of the X360 Japanese exclusive. If the game still doing badly then the support of Japanese companies will stop just like the Xbox. PS3 still have some advantage like free online, region free games and many Japanese exclusive.

My decision whether to buy a X360 or not will base on whether the Asian version will have english sub or whatever language I know, in other words is chinese. I'll definately buy PS3 when those big titles like Final Fantasy XIII and Devil May Cry 4 release.

This is a huge RPG games with up to 3 DVD, I seriously doubt can they translate the game some fast. They seems to be release the Asia version just after the Japanese version.

I have get the translated version by some fans. I think the story have little to no relation with the game. Btw, the release you mean is it as a comic book? It looks like this comic is release as a section in a comic magazine.

Don't hold your breath....if there are English subs ready for the Asian version, surely they'd release the US version now as well, and not in 6 months' time unsure.gif

I think the US version might be delayed not because of the subs, could be the voice acting. Well, at least I am hoping to be that case tongue.gif

it possible they will be 2 versions of Asian release. an early pure Jpn release (note the "Japanese Version" on cover's bottom left), and another one when NTSC/UC officially translated.

anyway, ori Asian versions jrpgs have been in full japanese for the past 15 yrs or so tongue.gif tongue.gif [eM] Asian is truly an unique version, too bad it got lousy sales

haha, i realise a loophole at P-A preorder liao. when u preorder it cheap, P-A will sell to u cheap and not the finalised mark-up price (eg. USD39.90 vs USD49.90) rclxm9.gif

More Blue Dragon info

Blue Dragon is released tomorrow in Japan, and it may be a while before we see it
over in Europe and the US, since that's what happens when an RPG is released in Japan first. However, that doesn't mean you can't view some screenshots and get all excited in anticipation for the title, since one shot has some lovely readable writing (i.e.: not Japanese), so the game is well under way for conversion. Plus, it might shift some 360s, if Famitsu have anything to do with it.

If you haven't heard anything about Blue Dragon, where have you been? It was recently covered that the game will be released on three DVD discs, harking back to the days of Final Fantasy, which used to come on no less than three discs on the PS1. It was also announced that a special Japanese only bundle would be released at lauch to celebrate Blue Dragon, with a hidden plan of trying to get the Japanese to buy a 360, which they have been reluctant to do thus far, forcing price drops by Microsoft to encourage people into buying. It has also been helped by Famitsu, the magazine everyone reads in Japan, scoring the game a mighty 37 out of 40, one of the highest scores ever from the publication. (In case you're wondering, Famitsu have four different people review the game and score it out of ten, then add the four scores for the final score.)

It was officially announced at X06 that the game would be coming to English speaking shores next year, and the picture (below left) indicates that this game is well on it's way as we speak. Whilst it isn't unusual for Japanese developers to throw the occasional English word into a game, to use numbers and HP/MP most certainly is, so it can't be a Japanese shot.

user posted image

As if that wasn't exciting enough, wait until you read the history of the current developers:

Mistwalker consists of ex-members of Square-Enix, the developer whose RPG pedigree includes the long running and critically acclaimed Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. The game producer is Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, with character design by Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Quest VIII artist Akira Toriyama, while music is being handled by Final Fantasy legend Nobuo Uematsu

Pretty exciting stuff. Hopefully the game won't take an age to translate and we see the game before the summer, unlike the Final Fantasy series gone by, which take roughly nine months to translate, and that's only one disc!

hehe, actually i think MS is giving their otakus choices:

- if u really impatient & want to experience the game, u can have it now (Asian release with jpn voice +jpn subs) some gameplay impressions indicate this game is not overly difficult. so playing/finishing the game with some gamefaqs help is very possible.

- or wait for the translated NTSC/UC version (Eng voice + subs) in a few months time thumbup.gif

erm, this Asian release is region-locked, and yet demand must be hot!? cos P-A goreng the price to USD49.90 cry.gif cry.gif

Hope this game won't be a flop. They beauty of getting US version is most likely game developer will have minor tweak and adjustment on thier final release base on public feedback.

After some time with the game, I find it to be enjoyable, but filled with lots of CGI (maybe thats why it comes in 3 DVDs), but in a good way. Its really for those who like old school rpg, simple, classic turn base and cliche ridden. For Toriyama fans its a must get, the character design is great! One thing I find strange, its suppose to be fully in Japanese, yet there some minor things like names, or when you find gold, the text is in English.

Anyway hope it does really well in Japan.

Well, I think a games with alot CGI cutscene is not a con. I have actually watch the gameplay movie and when you find an item it will show ITEM above the head of your character. I still dont think will get this games now until the real Asian english ver release.

You can download The first 10 minutes : Blue Dragon at Xboxyde.

It's like every few minutes there is one CG...or is it? Can't differentiate... tongue.gif

It's still playable, but obviously you will miss out on the details of the story. The manual for the asian version has english translation of all the game menus, so I believe you should have no problem navigating through the menus. Soon, there should be some fan translations appearing on the web. So if you really can't wait until May, but have the patience to search for translations on the web, then go for it.

So far I have no problems with the game. Only thing I find funny is checking through enemy droppings for gold or items.

The CG seems to have been purposely tone down to match the game, so it appears seamless. Sometimes its really hard to differentiate the prerenderd cutscenes!

"Blue Dragon shadows rise in Japan
As a promotional stunt for Blue Dragon, a display was set up in Shibuya where people could come face to face with the shadows of Blue Dragon. The wall expanded people shadows and projected Shu's dragon shadow to play with. The interactive wall drew a crowd like it was supposed to, spectators pulled out their camera phones to take pictures of the giant shadows."
blog excerpt from: Spencer Yip

Click HERE for one of the more interesting promotional stints for Blue Dragon which was uploaded to Youtube.

On another note, Not only do some of the enemies look like 'unchi'(poop), but when you defeat simultaneous groups of enemies they sometimes leave behind droppings/treasure, its funny! Guess Toriyama still has a 'fetish' for poop!

Though Blue Dragon had resulted to a slight increase in Xbox 360 sales, it was not enough as:

"After only a month on sale, Sony's PS3 has already overtaken Xbox 360 in the Japanese market to cement an early second place in the next-gen battle in the Far East." refer to this link for details.

A whole year's head start in Japan, yet the Xbox 360 got overtaken by Wii and PS3 within a month. This does not bode well for Xbox360 in Japan.

Oh by the way, am not sure whether this is true or not, but just found out that Blue Dragon's native resolution is 1080p. Its one of 3 titles in 1080p, the other, which is soon to be release, will be Lost Planet. No wonder Blue Dragon with its CGI spanned 3 discs and the graphics looked extra sharp and crisp when viewed at 1080p.

It was always an uphill battle even if they had a one year headstart.

Nintendo and Sony are both Jap companies and we know how loyal they can be to all things Japan.

Technically, I believe the XBOX 360 battle only started proper this year with their announcement at TGS 2006 on the games coming out this year and next.

However, I doubt Microsoft will make a huge wave in Japan.

i'm pretty sure it supports both Chi/Eng subtitles - similar to MS published Every Party & Ninety-Nine Nights. now the question is what voice track will it include? biggrin.gif

lets see what happens when main buta2 the jpn version.

new game -> playable! CG! playable! CG! realtime screen-tearing cutscene! CG! playable! checkpoint! game over! LoL restart fr checkpoint! CG! cutscenes! CG! playable!.......... haha

1st hr impressions

grafix - nice & clean, can enlarge text for 480i. imagine DQVIII + [eM] thumbup.gif
CG - done by ROBOT whose masterpieces usually grace capcom games
music - old skool rpg-tunes, the announcer voice is not that irritating
gameplay - so far very traditional rpg mechanics

at least the chi-eng manual is helpful enough to get started. somehow got stuck with the 1st boss cry.gif any special trick to defeating it, yjtay? me only lvl5, keep dying and kenot find antidote for poison sweat.gif gamefaqs, hurry up

stuck at this boss

Blue Dragon Outsells Zelda: Twilight Princess in Japan
QUOTE
Ladies and gentlemen, you might want to sit down; flagship Xbox 360 RPG Blue Dragon has outsold the recently released Zelda: Twilight Princess - and all other Wii software - in Japan.

The latest Media Create Japanese chart puts the Mistwalker RPG at number four in the top selling titles in Japan for December 4 through 10, which has managed to shift a respectable 80,000 copies in the country giving it the number two all-time 360 sales record behind Dead or Alive 4.

Blue Dragon has received a considerable level of hype in Japan, largely thanks to the fanbase surrounding Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Toriyama who designed the characters in the game, and a special edition Japanese Blue Dragon 360 bundle which some Japanese retailers reported to have sold out of within minutes of opening pre-orders.

Interesting indeed.

Hopefully Blue Dragon's sales wouldn't fall so significantly in the following weeks and it reaches MS target of 200K. It's a great game, but a bit on the easy side.

I am in the process of completing a user friendly Jap to English translation for commonly used items, spells and Shadow skills. If anyone of you all are interested just PM me your email and I will send it to you by this weekend. And in the process maybe help me proof read and improve it further biggrin.gif .

Hi guys, I'm super interested to get Blue Dragon soon. I suppose it's pretty much a given, but Blue Dragon NTSC/J is playable on an Asian set, yes? Cause I'm commiting myself to a game I may or may not finish. My nihon-go is at the competency level of a pre-schooler or something, but that won't stop me from enjoying a true next-gen RPG on a modern console. Can anyone help me confirm this?

No info if the Asian version will have english/chinese subs. Seems stupid to me to sell Asian version without english/chinese subs.

the asian version has a slightly different cover (no cero logo) + chi/eng manual. both version should work on Asian NTSC/J set.

not waiting for the chi/eng subtitles version coming mar-may?

Believe it or not, I am a VERY impatient and stubborn person. My stubbornness has been known to cause me regret later. But... I'd rather be taking my chances on something this special (an Xbox title that Japanese people actually line up for? ZOMG!!) than to wait for the uncertain (English or Chinese subs?), since I can't read Chinese. All the same, thanks for the info!

haha, very good semangat u have there. i oso wonder how the development of the BD sequel is going on. i think cell-shading (ala DQVIII) makes toriyama designs more attractive & alive. kluke's big eyes + big head 3D model is somewhat kinda creepy, LoL

here's a family photo of BD and its obscure sony-sponsored brother icon_rolleyes.gif

Blue Dragon features invertible game cover, which mean you can flip the cover inside out to display another cover if you're bored with the default one.

i heard the game should be 35 hrs if u dont get lost or level up highhigh to fight those secret powerful bosses. so 12 hrs sounds perfect.

iloveredapples, since u are new to the forums, may i remind u that u can EDIT ur posts, so u dont need to posts consecutively.

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessag...&topic=32370967

bari-barrier lets u instantly kill weaker enemies when u encounter them w/o actually fighting in them. i think it'll be useful for disc2 onwards to avoid repetitive battles with weak enemies. but so far i just pass the undersea cave, i find the enemies are tough enough for me. the weaker ones will usually escape b4 u encounter them.

If any of you are interested in learning Jap for video game purposes, if you can already read Chinese then 6months-1year of Jap lessons is enough. You'll be able to understand most sentences because 90% of kanji is the exact same meaning as Chinese (different pronounciation so you won't know how it sounds like, but you will know what it means).

LoL. no need so hardcore ler. if a popular game is in jpn, most times they'll be FAQs or fanslations at gamefaqs or ign. if dont have gamefaq help, i wont recommend playing through a jrpg, sure will get stuck here & there.

p/s: me needed yjtay's repeated help for all the earlier bosses sweat.gif sweat.gif

^ got this fr bob forums. haha, asian version of jpn rpgs are always released in jpn language + eng/chi manuals for the past 10 yrs or so. ori gamers fr TWN & HK usually but gameguides just to play them. hardcore jrpgamers FTW!

p/s: i really enjoyed [eM] with eng. subtitles, if i were to play the pure jpn release with the help of a gamefaq, i doubt the game would be half as enjoyable tongue.gif

back to blue dragon. dint really rush the game, just taking my time sight-seeing and searching for gold at every nook & crany. disc 3 at 36 hrs but plenty of unrecorded time for constant game-overs. wonder why those short CGI clips take up so much space? i can see some codec artifacts on 480i!? sweat.gif

yjtay told me a lot of the secret/optional sidequests may be missable. most probably will have to replay the game after a full FAQ is released rclxms.gif

Just arrived at Gibral Castle, seen lots of Bulma-like NPC. Same character model, just different hair / dress color. Why don't they make different-looking NPC characters? If they want to reuse the same character model, at least don't put them in the same town / place. doh.gif

haha, that is what make a jrpg - a jrpg tongue.gif

all those npc villagers are repeated/reused templates/models
alot of monsters/beasts reuse the same template/model with different color schemes

there was also an obscure joke in the bard's tale where the bard had to search/talk to a bunch of clone/twin villagers tongue.gif tongue.gif

actually, looking back there was a groundbreaking jrpg with a million++ combinations pet/monster family tree called jade cocoon. pity, its successor jade cocoon 2 din't expand & evolve that formula. jrpgamers are traditionalists at heart, even if a new jrpg comes up with new & breathtaking innovations, it will be underrated & ignored and the developers go back to making more traditional/classical jrpgs.

Yesterday Blue Dragon have finally got a US release date...Horay! It will be launch in August with "huge" downloadable contents promised...Japan have had 2 DLC so far...the Christmas gift thingy and the latest gameplus mode...the other cool stuff would be new dungeons and game tweaks such as randomized enemies and treasure...

weird that the US localized (dual language tracks) version is coming in august. the chinese language asian version still has an ETA of MAYXX IINM.

haha, hopefully the coming DLC are NEWly created contents. the previous 2 DLC was just unlocking-content keys (<200KB keys). maybe they intentionally schedule the DLC to prolong interest in the game?

Blue Dragon Japanese DLC Update:

16th Feb 2007:

New Game+ Mode
- Selectable difficulties between Normal, Hard and Super
- Enemies in Hard mode deal double damage, Super mode gives all enemies 50 extra levels

March 2007:

Six New Items
- Fickle Heart: Randomly increases a random category by 0 to 4 ranks
- Thief Heart: Steals the rare steal from an enemy
- Devi's Gramophone: Camp-use item. Plays the Devi Dance song.
- Nothing Glasses: When equipped you can see all Nothing Points marked with a star.
- Shuffle Helm: Magic Offense +40, Agility -40. Is there a secret?
- Spring Breeze Scarf: HP +20%, Agility +20%.

Spring 2007:

Shuffle Dungeon
- Random generation type dungeon
- New monster types (Including an evil female pirate that looks like Zora)
anyone playing superhard mode? been holding off replaying the game, waiting for Nothing Glasses. i think can save alot of time, no need re-examining every little corner in the environments. tongue.gif

/on another note, mistwalker is aiming for simultaneous X'mas release of LO in the US and Jpn. this must be the 1st JRPG released with dual-language right out of the gate? so will it take 3 dvds or more?

those new updates really sound interesting especially if u want to get all shadow to lvl 99... thumbup.gif

PS: Any good bari barrier area? the only enemy that give 5 SP is the golden poop ( but so slow to appear even with scent? )...is there anymore?

so far i got 2 good are that have 3SP - Sheep Tribe -Lal Mountain and Kelaso Village...damn tired to lvl up... rclxub.gif

hohoho, for a 1st time playthrough, dont lvl up high-high b4 taking on the last dungeon lar, it will make the last boss too easy.

make a save, finish the last dungeon and enjoy the ending. then go back to the save and go for the rare monster and dragon quest. i think 3SP per bari is the max liao. LoL, some ppl use the auto-fire controller/rubberband trick to auto-lvl themselves.

i miss alot on my 1st time playthrough (dint even manage to defeat the 2nd dragon sweat.gif ) was going for a 2nd playthrough but all this coming DLC makes me postpone it.

have to...i'm doing a game guide as i play thru the game...the bari barrier doesn't give u exp..just SP for shadow leveling...if not, semua sudah lvl 99...hahaha..so LVL wise, im ok...

I agree..+3SP is the highest for normal monsters...but on the Southern Deserted Island there a golden poop ( achievement - rare monster ) that will give u +5SP.

I would probably play it again after the new DLC comes out...

I believe the highest SP can be obtained from the rare platinum snake poop, 8sp if I am not mistaken at the South Western Deserted Island. Its where I spent most of my time shadow leveling up after Kelasor.

Have tried out the super mode and even with my whole party being at level 99, it was already a challenge early in the game. Most probably will replay the whole game at super once I get the March downloads.

Also really must finished off my extremely long overdued guide which I am owing to a few people. Guess its the problem of having too many consoles and tight workload early in the year!

erm, the gamefaqs story translation by spookychee is almost finish (upto disc 3) rclxms.gif icon_idea.gif

gameplay help, theonejin have a item/shadow/category faqs/translation. bluedragon also have a few tip sites

http://www.bluedragon.vc/index.html
http://k-rpg.jp/bd/index.html
http://blue.deepeasy.com/

can use google language translator to roughly help u

but anyway, playing it on easy diffficulty without understanding a word of japanesse presents a good enough challenge. just rmb to attack, black magic attack, heal, revive & support. the game will save b4 all boss fights, so u can keep retry with different strategy after learning boss patterns. i think i game-overed more than 20 times, and i admit i did get stuck a few times. tongue.gif tongue.gif

if u are playing with a printed gamefaqs, can try starting with hard difficulty (all monsters deal 2X damage). but those secret, optional bosses damn hard and getting all achievements also damn hard cry.gif cry.gif

a blue dragon (chinese version) and a blue dragon (korean version) should be coming soon. ETA was listed May something.

speculation time: my gut feeling is the the blue dragon (chinese version) will have jpn voice acting (and possibly chinese voice track) with chinese subtitles and english subtitles. this version will be on sale in HK, TWN and SGP. the US version has dual language but coming in august. i'm sure MS won't enforce a region-lock to prevent in from playing on NTSC/J Asian sets

the best thing abt blue dragon and the other mistwalker project LO, is that the publisher MS is willing to spend lots of money on it, getting in ready for all the different languages to release worldwide laugh.gif laugh.gif

You don't really need to fully understand Japanese to play this game....the storyline are very linear...except when u finally get the flying mechat..it would be great if you do..then you will understand the storyline and the full dialogue...

The manual also have the basic menu and battle system explained...faqs and guide are best used for additional quest or sub bosses and those crazy achievements that u might missed!

P.S - the 3rd DLC for Bdragon have been announced...it will available tommorow (gold) - 16th onward ( silver )

Since the US release will support multiple language - Eng/French/Spanish etc...they better make sure that its region free! no point making multiple language if it's not??

Yes, the chinese version will be release earlier...i think all the sub will be in chinese.

Good news for those waiting for the US version.
Some familiar voices have be roped in for the US localization of Blue Dragon:
Blue Dragon will be voice over by Fred Tataciore, the voice of Damon Baird in Gears of War.
Tara Strong, the voice of Kluke, has been heard as Rikku in Kingdom Hearts II. The other voice actors are Mona Marshall as Shu, Steve Staley as Jiro, Nika Futterman as Marumaro, Cindy Robinson as Zola, and Richard Herd as Nene.

Also as posted by Chris L. at QJ blog:
QUOTE
So you should be glad to hear of this IGN report that Microsoft "isn't cutting costs" or corners for Blue Dragon.
Localization team's experience: Ninety-Nine Nights, Kameo: Elements of Power, Gears of War (guess they localize both ways, too), as well as RPG translation experience;
30-40 people in the team total, including play testers;
Both Japanese and English voiceovers will be in the North American game; and
Experienced voice cast includes Richard Epcar (Gears, Resistance: Fall of Man); Tara Strong (Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Final Fantasy X/X-2).
Of course, the challenges remain as daunting as ever, then as now.
"It's going to take an extended team roughly five months to localize a product. That includes translation, test, and review time." - Laura Hamilton, Content Publishing Manager;
175,000 words in the script to translate - and all scripts then have to be polished, proofread, checked by Microsoft Japan, then by Mistwalker;
Barriers both linguistic and cultural, wherein certain things make sense in Japanese culture but inspire an "Oro?" in American or European contexts. Laura revealed to IGN that in these cases, they would leave the direct translation "as it was" so as not to dilute the "flavor" of the translation/script/story.

For more details and the rest of the story click on IGN. So I guess the US version should be worth the wait!

BTW, the 3rd DLC for Blue dragon is available today (March 16) for Silver members. While you are there, do download the Trusty Bell trailer as well, its real colourful and another must get turn based rpg as well.

haha, hopefully the DLC is accesible by tonight

i think marumaru voice actor will have a tough job acting the character in English, eh? i think the lullaby song is also sung by the jpn VA who did marumaru's voice. i heard they are redoing both songs - lullaby & birthday song in Eng. the annoying boss song remains unchanged though sweat.gif very nice of them to include dual language in the US version

the trusty bell trailer only 2 minutes ++ ( i wish there was more) the graphics do remind me of dark chronicle (dark cloud 2) + radiata stories. looks very nice even on plain old SDTV smile.gif

Blue Dragon anime will begin airing on TV Tokyo on April 7th! Akira Toriyama, at Tokyo Anime Fair had mentioned that this should be the final anime he is directing. Do take note this anime is based on the game not the manga. I wonder if this will give an added boost to the popularity of this RPG in Japan?
For details in Japanese head on to Matanweb.

I thought category will be maxed at level 40 / 50 because IINM we won't learn anymore skills once we reached level 36 in category level except for Barrier category, which unlocks the last skill on level 50. My characters category level (their default category) is around level 50 - 55.

I don't think the Chinese version has English subs, but I do hope I am wrong on that.

Wonder if anyone bought the OST, was a little tempted to buy it from Playasia as its discounted now.

The new super hard mode plus items does add a little playability, had a tough time with the early bosses even with my characters and shadows all maxed out at 99!

If there's no English sub for the new Asian version, I hope they'll make the English version region free. sad.gif

I may buy the OST if I have extra cash. I love the "Boss Encounter" song which is titled "Eternity by Ian Gillian" and also the "Devi Dance" song.

The Eternity single is only US$ 8.72 with free shipping. rclxm9.gif

looking at the 360 games released in asia so far, games that support chinese also support Eng (every party, TDU, N3, etc) except for the spectral force 3.

heck, when MS co-published [eM] Asian version, they hired a 3rd party vendor to do the localization/translation for the English scripts. so, things looking good for the inclusion of English subs smile.gif

there's a forumer here who a pretty hardcore collector of FF related stuff, he bought the OST quite recently form p-a, but forgot his nick doh.gif

super-hard sounds very tough & challenging. too bad they dint add another 100 achievement points for super-hard sweat.gif

/BTW, there's also a short clip introducing the blue dragon anime in jpn marketplace.

there's a everyparty (chinese) version released in HK

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-dw-77-...ty-70-1c28.html

i read somewhere it supports Eng text.

alas, i think i spoke too soon. now that culdcept saga (asian) is also JPN/CHI only like spectral force 3 (asian). so, maybe BD (asian Chinese) will also be JPN/CHI only. sad news for bananas like me sweat.gif sweat.gif

correction: culdcept saga also JPN only. weair, the cover does spot some chi characters.

So the Chinese version will be out on the 23/04? Is this the version with the English subs? Damn, that's like 10 more days to go!!!

If the game were to be released so far apart from the US version, I guess the one we're getting won't come with English VA.

Either way, I'm in. smile.gif

Eh fansub has been released sometime already. Actually I prefered the RPG storyline more, but its still good and since Akira Toriyama is personally with it, you can be assured of quality!

Wonder if sales for the Xbox and the game will actually go up slightly because of this anime?

Blue Dragon with English Subs - May 22nd in Singapore
QUOTE
box 360 owners in Singapore as well as other westernized countries can soon look forward to playing Sakaguchi's newest RPG masterpiece come May 22nd. We can all take this news as truly official, as one MS exec revealed to me that Blue Dragon have indeed gotten its release date pushed ahead of schedule. So rather than having to wait till August (as previously stated), 360 gamers can finally taste some sweet RPG love at last next month. And here's the sweetener: MS have listened to RPG fans' feedbacks and have stuck to Blue Dragon's native Japanese audio, but with 100% English texts/subtitles! Way to go Microsoft!

The Blue Dragon by Akira Toriyama is kinda offbeat compared to the Blue Dragon Ral Grado by Takeshi Obata (artist of Death Note). Even though both share the same concept but the dragon and the characters drawn by Takeshi are so cool-looking compared to Akira's Dragon Ball looks....

i think it pretty obvious all this DLC on BD is preplanned unlocking keys spaced out in a few months to trick keep ongoing interest in the game and persuading jpn 360-ers to try xboxlive tongue.gif the team should learn from namco's IMAS team tongue.gif

imagine if we played ffxii and all those elite marks, optional espers and rare monsters were "locked" and special codes/keys were only released 3 months after the game, LoL

With just BD main part you play and are not enough? Those where we recommend to such a you, are John this shuffle Don. At each time you play with the cave and the setting up and the ordinary means which it can be wrapped in the puzzle which changes the powerful monster which does not go, only here in the new item which exceeds 30 kinds which do not enter into the hand, it finished in the chewiness fully contents including the boss whose 10 kinds or more is new. The prayer which has remembering in the arm now immediately challenge! (Recommendation level 50 or more. In super/hard mode correspondence) note. In order to enter into the loom cube to John shuffle Don, the saving data near scenario final stage is necessary
so basically its a random dungeon generator accessible b4 the final dungeon. u get abt 10 or more new variations of bosses and 30 or more special items. recommended lvl 50+. the DLC is abt 18MB.

the prob is u need a jpn gamertag with jpn ms points to "buy" it. let's wait & see what develops with the asian marketplace icon_idea.gif

From the picture from BOB, there's no Chinese subtitles. However, they're releasing the game in Taiwan and HK as well right?

If I'm not mistaken, you can preorder the Chinese version from playasia. No news for the English version though.

the new asian rerelease will have CHI/ENG/KOR subs with JPN/KOR VA.

why is the Korean voice track included? it becos some team in korea already redo all the voice acting and localized the game in korean, coming out may24th. since the voice track is already on the disc, i think they just keep it there since korean pop-culture is also pretty popular with HKians, TWians and other asians.

to get chinese subs, set ur dashboard language to chinese or set ur locale to HK/TWN.

^i'm 99.99% this is how its gonna work

actually from afar, the covers look very similar, so take note of the catalog no.

NTSC/J Japanese version A7J-00001

NSTC/J Asian JPN version A7J-00003

NSTC/J Chi/Eng version A7J-00052

some bob.sg poster already playing it. it uses the same games folder as the NSTC/J Asian JPN version but he/she tested the JPN DLC to be not compatible? really weird. AFAIK, bullet witch JPN and bullet witch US have different game folders even though the DLC were cross-compatible.

No wonder the DLCs were only available in the Japan market place, for the Japanese Asian version. Guess that means that there would be separate DLCs for the English version.

On another thing, when I rechecked my achievements, for the Jap ver, I suddenly found out, that all of it have been translated from Japanese to English, so I believe both the Japanese and English version would share the same achievement leaderboard.

Anyway to those who are getting the game, I am sure you would enjoy it, but here is a little tip for those who are perfectionist, make sure you save at key locations, as there are lots of missable items and monsters!

Wondering if i can tumpang's ppl preorder of BD on PA.....

Have been waiting for this game for a long time. Read the manga, Blue Dragon Ral Grado and i love it so much!! Even though this is by Akira Toriyama but then the fact that the Blue Dragon spawn out from the shadow, it still has the original concept of it and i cant wait to control the shadow!!

eh? did N3 JPN version magically acquire Eng text support once the Asian version was released? maybe they patch the game with a new text dump file? i think BD's text dump file will be quite large, i doubt they patch it that way.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p...&postcount=2176

anyway, here's the weird thing. a neogaf poster claims u can interchange the gamesaves on both JPN version and CHI/ENG versions!? wah!! so mb there's a way to make those JPN DLC work also. need more players to share their experience soon.

but 1 thing like to share with you guys is. if you want it to be in chinese version(subtitle)
just change your machine language to chinese. there's no option inside the game for that. (in the beginning).

my tears almost come out when i first starting it up. omg . i love this game.

The English version is not due for release until sometime later this year. Not sure if its PAL or NSTC/UC.

At the moment, we have:

1. NSTC/J (Jpn) with everything Jap
2. NSTC/J (Asian) with Jap/ Korean voice and Eng/Chi subtitles

My game is still with Mr. Fedex. Sigh.

play-asia? use UPS next time. for me, they never failed to deliver within 24hrs (left hong kong the night before, reach me next day around 12-4pm) for 3 times already, except 1 time where it took an extra day because of customs taxing my HD-DVD drive.

Finally got the package.

Shipped out from HK, May 22nd.
Arrived in Malaysia, May 23rd.
Arrived on my desk, May 24th.

1 day delay is not acceptable to me. Considering I paid a premium price for it.

But its all the past now. I can enjoy the game tonight.

For those who played the Blue Dragon Japanese before, the game saves can be used in the new BD Asian release....good for those who want to try the super hard mode later...

I'm not sure if the achievements are based on the old or new because i have't reach the first secret achievement location yet. Will post later

The achievements are linked to the old one, but I am surprised the game came with the super hard mode unlocked. Hopefully it has the random dungeon generator too, which was fun to me. Maybe I borrow a copy to test out.

guys...wanna ask something....

Is this version (english subs) same like the japs version?....
If same, that means....we can't continue using the same save data (to level up....find gold....etc..) after we finish playing it..............

,,,unless....the DLC for asian come out which enable the save data to be use continuously although we finish playing it.........right?..... rclxub.gif

Well, I am really interested to get this game, but I am not sure whether I should get this or the upcoming US version. The US version might or might not have a collector edition or some extra content. So any advice?

the US version is coming in august.

- it may or may not be region-coded. u won't know whether its playable on local NTSC/J sets till some shops/sites confirms it
- a LE is possible, keep in mind, most pre-order goodies can only be enjoyed by consumers in the states. (like the lost planet pre-order VS action figure)

- this current version comes with some code to be used on friendsonlive.com for some "free goodies". some ppl are speculating they're offering free themes & picts. wait for confirmation.
- anyway, if u are planning to wait till august, chances are by then some ppl here will be selling their second hand copy already, so can buy and enjoy it at reduced cost thumbup.gif

hmm.gif well, I am not that desperate for the time being, as I am currently playing other games, guess I can wait.

RM165 for the current one i believe.

The code is on a sheet of paper that came with your Blue Dragon. It came along with the manual.

Buy now and you won't regret it . By the time US got theirs , we can always download anything we don't have . Just play through it for around 2 hours , and rocking so far .

My mini review of it

Graphic : Boast the same graphic as cut scene , sharp , cute , cool , and high quality . Though cute character , the facial expression is not bad , if you like anime , that is .
Gameplay : It's very near Final Fantasy , it's an Japanese RPG after all . The unique , obviously the shadow. I'm not really into the classes yet , but I expect more diversity sooner in the game .
Story : Not bad so far , but as I said earlier , I'm still very early in the game and see nothing yet . RPG needs passion , the longer , the more awesome it goes .
Music : As expected from Nobuo , the music does kick ass . Cool battle music and opening music plus the cheesy FF-like battle victory music.

All in all , it's a very high production game and although the character doesn't seem to be as macho as expected from FF characters, at the very least they convey the correct expression and looks damn cute . wink.gif

Seriously love this addition into my game collection .

Added on May 29, 2007, 3:11 amOh , BTW , anyone got the mystery gift already ?

FF7 + Chrono Trigger + Dragon Quest + Dragon Ball = Blue Dragon

I'm on to disc 2 and i must say.. once you reach lvl50 on the barrier skill, you wont want to fight low lvl monsters anymore... just walk through them and lvl all your skills to lvl35 and above.. especially the generalist skill.. can add more accessories and more skills..

The game sure does push the box to the limit. I guess maybe that's why there's tons of people with hanging xbox. Just try and ventilate it a lil bit more.

Speaking of which, the interface for the asian version has been modified a lil bit compared to Japanese version eh? For example, the fight order text on top of the screen have been replaced by some msn looking icon.

What else have they changed so far?

But if I do not maximize the screen resolution or the graphic settings, is it still possible that BD will hit my Xbox 360 with 3ROD ?

Coz i looked at some of the guys thread that they are hit by 3ROD when they maximize the graphic output or encounter lock up in the game...actually, what do you mean by lock up ? It hang or what ?

Sorry, super 360 noooooooooob here

He must've come from a PC gaming background. Most of the time, there's no options for tweaking graphics in game for a console because the game are expected to be running on ONLY 1 type of hardware.

What else is there to tweak on the user side?

Same here....

There's quite a number of tearing issues as well. Most evident when you pull of the Magic Sword. Does this only happen for us with VGA cables?

Anyone with component can chip in? Too much of a hassle to unplug the cables from the back of the TV.

Tearing on component... ok. I have slight slowdown during battles, and tearing... hmmm.. I think I've only seen tearing once or twice, not enough to make me remember.

Just remember for those of you running VGA cable.. the higher res you got the more work the upscaler needs, so just drop it down to say 720p instead of 1080p and see how well it works.

Hmm... I'm already on 720p, and the tearing's pretty prominent. I will try out with the component later on. We'll see whether that reduces the problem.

VGA cable on CRT monitor user here, I seem to be experiencing pretty choppy framerates on 1024x768!

and there's one VGA option which I maxed out, maybe I should try reducing it.

How's the performance like on component?

Generalist is good coz you get extra skill slots too. Regretting not going with that class earlier.

Currently, trying to get Counterattack, Absorb HP for all my characters. biggrin.gif

So far, Marumaro, Shu and Jiro already has it. Kluke is trying to get the loot skill...

if you finish the gorgon or gohgon village, go to the cafe there and look at kuririn dance... the cheesy music and her twisting moves.. shiok..

and more tips for ppl whom have just started.. keep your upgrade skill hearts for later lvl.. dont waste it upgrading from lower lvls..

upgrade 1 charaters barrier skill to lvl 50 so that you can basically upgrade your other characters skills faster and easier..

have every character get a different skill + the generalist skill..

kill every enemy once.. especially in one off places like the airships and places without the warp..

have multiple save games at strategic points.. RPG players would already know this, but for BD, there are achievement points to be earned, so save more...

to access ancient ruins cavern u need to have a blue barrier device...and i highly recommend that u visit this place once u get it...because you can get black belt very early on from one of the large silver poop monster ( steal at least one for each characters - by utilising the fight - steal - run method )

I find it odd that the game takes a long time to load the save/load screen now because of all my saves. IIRC, I've saved around 15 - 20 game saves. Time to delete some of them eh?

You do get some additional bonus though, during the load time, if it takes too long, you will see some graphics of the games main characters. rolleyes.gif

yeap... 100% counter.. so its like.. opponent whack u once, u counter, u whack back 2 times.. so its 3 blows for one.. good trade.. add in the item that gains u money for each blow and you'll get the 1000000gold achievement in no time..

Just got my copy from PA, great graphics and pretty good game... the game is slightly slow to my liking... nonetheless, my first RPG on X360 and I'm more than happy.

Everytime you press A and you get a Nothing, this will be counted. You can go and see 'Nothing Man' and he will reward you accordingly.

All I'm saying is, just go and get all the Nothing, you will be rewarded eventually. That still doesn't change the fact that it's freaking annoying. biggrin.gif

You can use the hearts, but in order to get the achievement, you can't use it when you're at Level 98.

It's even listed in the Achievement list: Dragon: Max One Class
Max out the rank for one Dragon class. Must go from 98 to 99 without using a Heart enhancement.

i was also wondering why i was experiencing slowdowns in save/load.. .

tip: boot up the 360, disconnect ur ethernet cable.

login to ur profile, load BD, load the saves menu super quick. after u r in the game, connect the cable back and log-in to LIVE via the guide. or just play the game offline, haha.

sounds troublesome, but my experience is when u have 30 saves slots and u like to save/load alot(to keep rewatching the cutscenes), u can shave off many minutes just by playing the game offline.

the thing with xboxlive is everytime u go to the "saves" menu, it need to time-check and verify EACH of ur previous saves with xboxlive server. something to do with making sure nobody cheats with gamesaves sharing i think.

whos Jiro is totally useless in battles?
not that any of the battles ive had so far were exactly too tough to handle, but with Zola and Marumaro doin their double attack Assassin thing + the Monk AOE damage = no work for Jiro..lol

Guru-Guru looks odly familiar hmm.gif laugh.gif

I equip jiro with shadowstep shoes (always first atk), during boss fight, he will double cast atk up + quicka (or other spells if necessary). On the later boss stages, my party can kill the boss before it can do one single action. For normal fight... i just put it on defend or maybe aoe black magic if too many monsters.

I always put my formation, Shu and Jiro in front cause most of their eq is +ATK and as for Kluke, she will be behind casting magic only.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaa.. that's it!!! I'm being reminded why I HATE playing turn based RPGs again!!!

Bloody hell!!! I hate it that they just throw.. not 1.. not 2.. not 3.. but FOUR bosses at you at THE SAME FARKING TIME!!!

I hate the fact that I probably have to grind my characthers some more so that they can beat the bunch!!! (or equip more fire proof equipment)

BLOODY HELL!!!

For those in the know.. Disc 2.. big ball.. 1 hour.

They're pretty tough, tougher than most of the enemies in the game. I guess my character's a bit too over leveled for them though... heheheheh
