Hi,

I wanted to ask this for a long time....

I am just curious why is Apple Byte's post count disabled??

I know there is a fair amount of spam in the sub forum but is it that serious to disable the post count?

There are some people out there like wei, MacDaNife, yetieater and a few new guys who does give help to the others but their help is not credited (with post counts).......

As far as I remember, there were not any explanation given to why it was disabled...All that was given is in this thread......nothing else.....

I am just curious...If the mods and the admins feel that it is not neccesary to explain it, then it's alright... thumbup.gif

It was disabled due to excessive spamming in the boards. smile.gif

First thing, regular forumers who visit Apple Byte knows who contributes many good information there. Does the post count really matters actually ?

Yes indeed but what does the post count proves anyway ? Some people may have high post counts just by spamming irrelevant posts. So post counts for me doesn't matter, what matters the most is the quality of the post.

Should i gather and compile all the spamming (one liner plus off topic) posts and put it as the reason why Apple Bytes Post Count Disabled?

Below are just a few of the so-called contribution post within 1 min searching.

Contributions of posts are always welcome and will be awarded with Elite/Mod tag by quality of post, not post count.

What so big deal about post counts in Apple Byte, you can still get post counts on other threads and sub-forums.

Come on, do u really think that if 1 out of 100 members post quality stuff we should enable the post count?
I'm hoping that u dont actually believe that...
And if you ask those quality posters, i dare say 99% of them are not bothered about post counts, so why should the rest of us bother?

The post count will be re-enabled when the moderator requests for it to be; ie, when spamming has been reduced.

Yes, maybe you answered to their question. But then, with one liner kinda post? "Yeah, me too?" kinda post? Nah, I don't think it helps. Perhaps you should elaborate/explain/give reasons more or something, that's worth a read. It's not a matter of answering/replying to a thread, it's all about sharing. Afterall, I don't think they asked "Do you love your Macbook/Nano?", "Do you enjoy your Apple?" or some sort of like that. And above all, post counts don't give you respect, quality post do. unsure.gif

Just my 2cents!

Having a high post count intimidates people that are new to the forum. It's a pseudo status symbol. :]

Sure, we can have a perfectly constructive discussion without turning on the post count for the subforum, but throwing in that feature makes it all the more enjoyable.

Great idea? Why isn't this done instead of disabling post counts? Mods are lazy? biggrin.gif

Because no matter how many of them u warn, countless idiots spawn out of no where
And also the fact that mods dont have The Great Lidless Eye to look over every single post
