I guess it's not only about the limited range of Proton models, the main problem is the vendor selection. VW wants to have a full control on the supply chain so meaning that vendors who supply sub standard parts will be kicked out so that's a no no since some of these vendors are linked to some big shots and it's a must that Proton and other car makers to accept parts for these so called vendors, that's why non-national cars are starting to show the same QC problems like Proton, even though less but there are QC problems. VW is aware of such corrupt practice in Malaysia and they have insisted to tackle this matter but insisting that they decide where to source for the car parts and to revamp the whole manufacturing process. Of course, the government will never agree to such a request.

VW is not in dire straits like Proton, if the terms are not favourable, then might as well, forget the whole deal. If you're in VW's shoes, will agree to let them use Proton's name, use your technological know how for free. VW is not in a win-win situation, it's ain't a JV effort either. With such unattractive terms, I rather look elsewhere lah, it's not that VW needs Proton to survive as they're doing pretty well in China now. Sigh ............ If they're not sincere, who will partner with Proton leh?
