Apparently from latest update, the supposedly "Asyncompute.exe" program doesn't send compute workload to the compute queue on NVIDIA cards..whereas PhsyX games do async compute? source

I guess it won't be anytime sooner than 3 years.

By then, 980TI's performance probably just on par with the xx50 or xx60 series, LOL.

Wait for actual AAA game release.

Nvidia does support async shader.

Not gonna jump because of a unfinished game by a small time developer with a hefty price tag.

i'm curious 980Ti can hit 6GB vram at the peak???  hmm.gif
you wouldn't want it to peak but yes, high VRAM consumption is possible.

So latest update on the Async situation:-

QUOTE
We actually just chatted with Nvidia about Async Compute, indeed the driver hasn’t fully implemented it yet, but it appeared like it was. We are working closely with them as they fully implement Async Compute. We’ll keep everyone posted as we learn more. - Kollock (Oxide Games)

Nvidia GPUs can be memory starved, look at how the GTX 960 gets performance boost when it's paired with 4GB RAM instead of 2GB.

i think vram is more suitable for multi-display purpose or higher resolution.

But with the performance of 960, you probably will be suffer from low unplayable FPS before you able to utilise the 4GB fully, LOL.

Even my 970 is short in raw power to drive settings over 3GB VRAM.

I welcome big VRAM for 2 cases, mods and multicards. Else it's like paying extra for something you don't know when have the chance to be used.

You wouldn't want to do that, really. biggrin.gif

Whether it's SYSTEM RAM or VIDEO RAM - being fully utilized is not a good thing.

In any case, GTA V i set it to 8x and you see the framerate is bad, drop it to 4x or 2x and IIRC it still takes up more than 2GB VRAM.

Look at Shadow of Mordor, that's totally acceptable framerate on full details but notice how more RAM actually helps the performance.

Bear in mind those are average FPS, it means you have higher max and higher min FPS too.
