I don't think we will get a new striker. Depay will play striker when Rooney unavailable. But i feel Rooney will play majority of matches. Best option is Sahko from west ham. He should be ok as backup.

We are in Champion League... we need all the MF we have! Carrick cant play many games in a season, but he is going to help us maintain our formation while we give a rest to schneiderlin and schweinsteiger.

Our MF is done. Now someone to backup Rooney. And a CB, Otamendi pls!!

Let's look at transfer activities of post Ronaldo seasons of SAF, DM season, LvG last season.

2014/2015 - Buy: 145.5m, Sell: 41.3m, Total spend: 104.2m, players still left: A. Herrera, L. Shaw, M. Rojo, Di Maria, D. Blind, V. Valdez
2013/2014 - Buy: 67.7m, Sell: 1m, Total spend: 66.7m, players still left: G. Varela, M. Fellaini, J. Mata
2012/2013 - Buy: 63m, Sell: 11.9m, Total spend: 51.1m, players still left: N. Powell
2011/2012 - Buy: 52.9m, Sell: 14.75m, Total spend: 38.15m, players still left: De Gea, P. Jones, A. Young
2010/2011 - Buy: 27.2m, Sell: 13.65m, Total spend: 13.55m, players still left: C. Smailing, J. Hernandez, A. Lindegaard
2009/2010 - Buy: 21m, Sell: 85.5m, Total spend: -64.5m, players still left: A. Valencia

After Ronaldo left, we have addictional 64.5m to spend. SAF spent a total of 102.7m. 102.7m - 64.5m = 38.2m. SAF only spent 38.2m on his last 3 seasons!!! And that does not include the club earning. From this 38.2m, Smailing, Jones, Lindegaard, Young, De Gea still in Man Utd squad. And 22m of this 38.2m is also spending on RvP who won us title.

So I am making a theory here. SAF is saving the transfer war chest for upcoming Manager. He knew it will be hard for new mgr to takeover him. So he save the money to help the new mgr. Assume each season we have 50m warchest. In last season of SAF, he has at least 150m to spend.

And BTW,

Maybe past experience trigger what SAF did... no one was able to replace Sir Matt Busby after he step down. So in order to replace SAF, you need someone to shoulder the blame first... that's where DM come in. Mastermind Wood was actually genius in dealing with transfer target... but he purposely failed to do it for DM, so DM will fail. Now after DM season, expectation of the club gone low. It is good time to rebuild. Wood hire LvG, bought all players LvG need...

Read properly. LvG said VV does not want to play for reserved game anymore. He is not saying VV did not play in reserved game. Stupid VV go and post pic saying he did play in reserved game. LvG wants VV to play in reserved game to regain confident and fitness, then wait for his chance.

Change the Philosophy a bit

LVG Philosophy -
If DDG leave, we got Romero, Lindegaard or Johnstones.
If Rooney can't score, we got Depay or Januzaj as striker. And we are targeting Pedro who can play str as well.
CB wise, if we really can't get Ramos or Otamendi, we just have to deal with it or wait for Jan transfer windows. Because anything else is not an upgrade to Rojo or Smailing.

Compare to Ibra, Rooney is crap.

Jones lost track of Matuidi.

Shaw looks good. Dribb half field.

Blind presence as CB... is weak.

Mata could not find enough space to create chances.

Depay still need more polish.

As some have said, we need Herrera.

Conclusion, Carrick and Schewen cant play together... except mayb move Mata to behind striker instead of Depay... to link up play.

Today is preseason, is a match you build fitness and testing players capability. It is also to address the problem within the team.

LvG need to address following problems:
- Rooney lack striker sharpness
- double pivot formation lacking linkage upfront. Depay and Mata need to swap place.
- CB lack leadership

While many may argue Depay and Mata should swap place. I will say Herrera should play behind Rooney. Depay, Young, Mata, Perreira will fight for the remaining left/right forward role.

So pls LvG, pls play Herrera as AM!!
