well, guys the good news is that the newly launched Subbuteo has hit our shores. Yay! the bad news however is that it's now made by Hasbro. If any of you collect Hasbro stuff you will know what to expect, which isn't very much. i was hoping a British or European company would have taken it over since Subbuteo really fared well in Europe, so we shall see what Hasbro has in store for us.

Currentlg you can see the game and some of the accessories in either Borders (Gardens) or Times (Pavilion) - those are the only two places i have seen them although i was told there was a demo of the game in Bangsar Village a couple of weeks back.

The other bad news is the pricing, i can't remember the original 70's pricing but then as it is now it isn't cheap. RM250 for the basic starter set - 2 teams, pitch, balls and goal posts. Additional teams are RM75 a pop! But so far i haven't seen any of the EPL teams although they are selling an all white strip team which can be modded i suppose.
*
so its not mass marketed here, just a selective few who are bringing in and the price! if i remember correctly a starter set only cost about rm1xx like that which includes the items u mentioned. Additional teams cost only rm25 last time, so does a box of goalpost which contains 2 pcs per box bt of cos with the rising cost of material they'll only cost more and more...

No need get the starter set.

May be you try asking the distributor directly for the pricing. If the pricing not right you can buy online anytime.

Wanna join the subbuteo club if there is one.
*
unfortunately bro, the Subbuteo scene over here is nt that active, i bet most still have their old sets but the difficulty of getting additional players and accessories means most may not have complete set anymore...

i still have a set bt i hardly played with it anymore as some of the players legs are already broken...

unfortunately bro, as u can see the total post, not many active players around to revive the game, guess nowadays ppl are more interested in console and handphone games. such a sad scenario...

Actually guys, there is a move to reintroduce Subbuteo back to our living rooms again.

Imagine Games and the guy behind them are bringing them in and i was last told that he is trying to restart the passion again.

There are a few things planned and even talk of the possibility of a league even.

If you go to Times (Bangsar or Pavilion) you will see the official Subbuteo (not the Zeugo ones mind you) teams for LFC, CFC and QPR. Odd selection but if you are fans of those teams you have to get them.

Will update you guys on this thread if i hear more ......

Did Subbuteo get the license officially? I've been seeing a reintroduction in sales, mainly @ Borders Gardens.  Haven't seen any marked CFC or LFC, but definitely some that are 'styled' in their colours.
*
license officially? u mean the right to use the name and colors of football clubs? yes, they did get the license, its that the jerseys are too small to put in any markings. actually u can buy teams like Liverpool, Man U, and even Blackpool separately other than those that comes with the set tat u bought. and yes, names like Liverpool, Manchester United were printed on the box. and they also comes in 2nd and 3rd strip in case everyone is a supporter of a certain team so when u play each other u guys can use alternate colors icon_rolleyes.gif

I first played Subbuteo in late 70s (yeah old dude here but young at heart). There were about 10 of us and we had our own English League with each 'managing' his own fave club. We had loads of fun for about 5 years until one by one moved away to college, etc. I did buy the 1994 USA edition and got a few friends to play. IMO Subbuteo did not take off here cos you need space to play the game. Malaysian homes tend to lack space unlike the West where average house is spacious.

yeah, also u have to have a table big enough to lay out the pitch (preferably dining table) but as families getting smaller nowadays so do the dinner tables...

yeah but now the jerseys are nicely decorated. u can see clearly the sponsors logo now compared to the the 90's where there's none.

I wonder if it will last as I was at Borders @ Curve last Friday and they've removed Subbuteo from display and replacing with Star Wars game and such.

Here's an event that took place 2 weeks back - there may be hope yet for Malaysia to finally embrace Subbuteo. http://waspa-circuit.blogspot.com/2013/12/...n-malaysia.html

Hartamas Subbuteo Club also posted this on lowyat.net on November 20 - https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3028500

The response was at most, lukewarm at this part of the world. Most doesnt quite understand the rules of the game and most just baulk at the expensive price of a starter set. Anyhow, thanks for the update on the Subbuteo scene bro notworthy.gif

Hamleys Subbuteo update:
Well, if anyone turned up for the Hamleys Subbuteo promo today, it was a good one but you had to go right on inside the store to find them.

There were two excellent pitches set-up courtesy of the Hartamas Subbuteo Club and of course the game drew up a lot of interest. One little boy who i played with liked the game very much but was rather shocked by the cost of the starter set - The Club edition. So the only chance these kids can play is if stores like Hamleys are willing to support such sessions. My son also finally got to experience playing on a better surface than his bedroom floor which really helps to enhance the playing experience.

I have not played since the early 80's (mucking around with my son doesn't really count as playing  tongue.gif  ) but trying it out again on that superb pitch really brought back some wonderful memories for me.  smile.gif

Now to find that old box of mine with my Subbuteo stuff from the late 70's  e hmm.gif

For more info on Subbuteo just look up the Subbuteo Malaysia facebook page that someone had posted up the link in an earlier reply.

Here is hoping that Subbuteo gets to take off again here in MY.
*
Yeah, hope we can set up a local league among LYN forummers in the near future. With guys like u and dano around there is still hope yet. Let's keep our finger s crossed. nod.gif

I visited Hamley's this afternoon but the pitches were removed. The club team set sells for RM69 - packaging is not the same as ones at Borders though.

i think there are 2 makers for the teams bro, one is ori Subbuteo itself and another from Zeugo but i could be wrong.

The pitches were not Hamleys, that was from the Hartamas Subbuteo Club. The Club has 6 of those pitches. Awesome playing surfaces!  drool.gif  They were there to demo the game.

As for the packaging they are indeed two brands as kcmy mentioned - there is the official Subbuteo teams and then there is the other popular brand of Subbuteo-type teams called Zeugo. Subbuteo teams are going for RM69 and Zeugo when i got them from Times was RM75. Figures are noticeably different with surprisingly the Zeugo figures being more like the old Subbuteo figures i grew up with c.1978! They looked much sturdier. If i can remember how to post pix up in the threads i will put up some pix later on.

Cant wait for the picts bro, just wat the thread needs thumbup.gif

Oh I get it now. Zeugo men has a flatter base compared to Subbuteo men which is 'deeper' - making it good for curling the player. I didnt have the Zeugo back in 70s and 80s so I cant say if I'll like it over Subbuteo's.
*
I think Zeugo's set only available recently or earliest during the late 90's. Before that, all the players and accessories were made by Subbuteo itself.

There are big things in store for the Subbuteo scene here in MY.

If there are any "veterans" out there who want to rekindle their childhood, why not join in.  The Club could do with more vets
