Simpang Pulai route is less scenic.. the Tapah route has got more scenic stops... especially the waterfall... lata wat liao .. forgot and some shops selling potteries... also a lot of orang asli settlement. New route is very comfortable to drive up but less scenic view except for some bald limestone hills at the start... then nothing else..

QUOTE(stimix @ Mar 19 2007, 11:02 AM) Yes agreed....I go there to hibernate too...dun really like going to the markets & etc....just eat & sleep at the cool resort....& it has been one of my favourite hibernating place.... Oh yeah.. Mayflower is real value for money.... there is one though at Brinchang for errr... Organic vege one... nice too...For food try not to eat at Brinchang..all the restaurant there really like a slaughtering hse..prices of food worst than KL or even JB! The best alternative are those eateries at Tanah Rata....more cosy & reasoble pricing..The best tom yum steamboat there is Mayflower.... I like tea time at T-Cafe.... their hot scones are heavenly on a cold evening.. but but.. please dont try their cantonese fried noodles... scones and pancakes are ok. Added on March 19, 2007, 3:10 pm QUOTE(driftmeister @ Mar 19 2007, 10:10 AM) hehehe driftmeister and stimix... same hibernating kakis eh? Whereabouts opposite Tanah Rata town? Mayflower is good value for money, tried the other one Hong Kong or Kowloon steamboat.. sigh... small portions and not as tasty... The other thing I normally buy fr CH is honey... I normally get it from this guy who will even deliver it to KL for me nowadays if he comes down... |

QUOTE(driftmeister @ Mar 20 2007, 10:51 AM) i usually have my lunch at kpg raja on my way up and on my way down, Yup... will check that one out!from brinchang go there need like 15-20 mins minimum if got trucks or buses even longer erm.. u know there's a new row of stalls at tanah rata ? opposite traveler's pub/bistro then opposite this new row of stalls (across the main road) is a garage (i think) u can look for the steamboat restaurant by entering the junction, just around 1 mins drive from the entrance honey, where can get it? Honey, I got it from this guy, he sells at a bazaar on the left going up from Brinchang to Kea Farm. Le Apis... he sells various types of honey, I go for his natural wild honey as the other cheap versions sold everywhere has syrup and flavour hence not really good. I also got a bottle of propolis which is very good for sore throat.. it is apparently nature's natural antibiotics... QUOTE(stimix @ Mar 20 2007, 12:09 PM) Talking about food in CH, way back in late 90 or early 2000, I alway hv my lunch at a stall opposite Tanah Rata Post Office, that was when they tear down the stalls & build thw white elephent taxi/bus terminal. oh yeah.. the new bus terminal... heck.... well.. I guess I got more things to seeek out on my next trip there. There is one particular stall operated by Chinese handicapped (deaf) couple....and really luv the pancakes & the chinese fried noodle/beehoon..reasonable too)...But right now, since they built the new taxi terminal, dunno where is this handicapped couple is...any idea where they are? Their service apartments sucks big time, I think you are not the first to note it... but I have always liked Equatorial... quiet peaceful and nice surroundings.
Stayed there for most of my trips, their hotel rooms are clean and comfy... well, maybe my taste and requirements aint that high but have never tried their Apartments.. maybe after so many complaints I will stick to their Hotel rooms.. |

Yes. The hotel is the Block in the middle where the lobby is. They also have Apartments in their second tower block as well as the rustic walk ups around the hotel.
I have stayed at Strawberry Park as well as Cool Point before but, I still find EQ to have one of the best in terms of locality and convenience. Maybe I got suckered by EQ... Added on June 13, 2007, 3:20 pm QUOTE(4Cs @ Jun 12 2007, 09:50 PM) Stayed in this so called 4 stars hotel located on the highest point of Brincang, last weekend, in their 2 rooms apartment. Should have known the rooms are going to be in bad state when I walked into the lobby. Hey, let me explain my experiences at EQ and the bird droppings... they are guano actually.. BAT droppings. They can be seen coming back to the parking lots in the evenings.. This is the place where you find beautiful flowers, but the lobby's flowers display were teruk...5 stalks of Heliconias, all dried up with shreded leaves in the middle of the lobby. And it was there for 2 more days, before they finally remove it! The staircase were dirty and stained with bird's dropping. Our rooms were dusty, especially under the bed (the floor is lamenated wood), toilet flush not working. This so called 4 stars hotel is worst than some 3 stars. When request for a change of room, the receptionist said some of the apartments do not belong to them. I feel if they are charging me 4 stars room rate, then the quality should be 4 stars!! The buffet breakfast was the same thru out our 3 days stay, nasi lemak, congee, bread, fruits, (cold) half boiled eggs, bread and butter pudding. Even my maid said the food is not nice! Stayed there way way back on my honeymoon... so was down at their coffee house for breakfast, it was January - flies were aplenty, its their season. Our breakfast was dining with flies as well as a plateful of flies caught in glue next to us and the waiters did nothing! We wrote in to the GM to complain... PRESTO.. next day we had complimentary drinks at their Cricket Lounge as well as a fantastic fruit basket on our departure! Many visits later... when I have kids and all, we instructed them to clean up the room before 2pm as with a baby, we need the room to be ready when we are back from our excursion, but room was not made up... there we go round the mulberry bush again... wrote in to complain.. made hell of a noise! Viola! We had complimentary cakes that we were salivating on our way up near the lift served to us.. and PRESTO.. another fantastic fruit basket to our room the next morning! One thing I learnt. If you are not satisfied.. make hell lot of a noise. You are bound to get noticed. On my second brush with them, I actually took the letter straight to the GM's office when the Manager on Duty was just apologising and I say its lip service! The Manager was asked to apologize to us again on our departure.. (actually I felt bad for her) but... well... since then, my experiences at EQ was pretty pleasant. On matter that they say the Apt does not belong to them, maybe its a 3rd party unit, meaning they did not sub it out to EQ to manage for them. Just my thoughts, am not justifying for EQ. This is the same as Genting View Resort as well. This post has been edited by Grengo01: Jun 13 2007, 03:23 PM |

As I have said, it may be a private apartment being rented out by the owner. I really cant say much as I have not had experience with the Apartments. But they are all within the vicinity of EQ.

Question: Did you book your Apartment through EQ?
If yes, then you have a case against EQ. I have never had problems requesting for room change when I find somethings not working, eg. toilet leaky on one instance. If no, then you might have booked it through an agent who may own the unit itself, hence the onus is NOT on EQ to maintain it as the owners have ceased the contract of renting out and managed by EQ themselves but for a small fee just to handle check ins and check outs. As all the maintenance to the unit is the responsibility of the owner, it will be unfair to lay it on EQ. I am not promoting the hotel nor justifying, just to clarify on what basis and criteria one is judging the hotel from, so it actually matters who owns the unit. Moreover, I hibernate in Camerons 3 times a year at least and not many bad experiences. Even if there is any, we were the ones blowing it out of proportion This post has been edited by Grengo01: Jun 14 2007, 10:28 AM |

I guess you need to see if you are barking up the right tree for that matter, hence to determine who is the responsible party to maintain the unit you rented.
Of course you deserve to expect what you paid but are you seeking it from the right party. That is what we are trying to establish here. Geddit? |

Amyho,
IMHO its best you drive there. Own transport is best as you can shuttle between Tanah Rata, Brinchang, Kea Farm or even to Tringkap with ease and mobility. Not too sure if taking a bus there and rely on taxis to take you from place to place would be cheaper than you having your own car to move around. |

There is one indian shop near Mary Brown... just love the teh tarik at night... just like having tea in Europe... except for occasional gush of diesel fumes... even at night.. Both at Tanah Rata. |

QUOTE(stimix @ Nov 24 2008, 07:34 PM) Not really all-lah...but atleast I tried most of the wellknown one oledi.. ...currently my value for money for sure is KRS guesthouse...deep inside a dead end of Jln mentagi Tanah Rata..comes wth 2 single beds, attached bathroom & it's super duper clean. The TV is on the common area on each floor but most of the time the Astro hall is empty & u can play wth the remote controls all day long..provided it's not during peak period-lah.. Hmmm... Play with remote... QUOTE(driftmeister @ Nov 24 2008, 08:01 PM) me too just got back Yeah... CH was crowded.... when did you go there? Was there for the weekend Sat/Sun... Kea Farm was a madhouse on Sunday... CH is damn crowded man stayed at Hotel Titiwangsa for this time new hotel just 3 months old price wise is ok - RM155 for quad room (damn big !!) and FOC extra bed downside - facing the brinchang main road, can hardly sleep during nite time (i am very picky, cant sleep with even minimal noises) if one can tahan the noise, then its good if get those double room, which faces the back then its good p/s: was quoted RM148 for a tiny quad room at Parkland and RM200 for Rosa QUOTE(Winning11 @ Nov 24 2008, 09:39 PM) just went back from CH yesterday too. Yup.. saw the Time tunnel thinggy.... may check that out in my next trip...there is one place not to be missed other than the usual tea plantation and all that: Time Tunnel. something like a museum. and it is worth the RM5 admission fee. will go there again when i'm in CH in the future. |

QUOTE(driftmeister @ Dec 29 2008, 08:16 PM) at this time I second that anytime... loved CH during low season. Hotels are cheaper, vege are cheaper... no crowd.. no stress.. me just back from Avillion PD.. Cameron Highlands is not a place to relax more like a tourist hotspot prefer to go there at very low season to really feel the slow pace and relax QUOTE(blackburry @ Dec 29 2008, 10:47 PM) Shld be safe kua.... just ensure you do not wear clothes that are "too revealing" |
