1st of all, Sony will discontinue the PSP fat(PSP-100x) because there is no point manufacturing it anymore because the PSP slim/lite(PSP-2000) costs cheaper and more function... plus it's new... And of course newer firmwares will continue to come out for both, but some of it's features will not be accessible on the PSP fat such as video capabilities that are available on the 3.70.

Oh btw FYI 3.70 is not officially announced worldwide only certain regions, so they WILL BE announcing a NEW OFFICIAL firmware, the 3.71. It has the same stuff as the 3.70. So I guess they are repeating what they did with the 3.50 firmware in the past... the release new ones just days before the really complete update is ready. So I'm guessing Team M33 won't start on the 3.7x CFW yet until few days pass...
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/09/11/...d-psp-firmware/

Nw the video out feature requires certain cables ( 2 types to be exact: 1 wont be able to support game play ) plus the quality is not so amazing just satisfactory for the videos... and the games will not appear full screen only about 1/4 of the full screen. If you have a psp, most of u will have a ps2 or a ps3 then... so for gaming on the big screen... stick to ps2 & ps3...

And regarding the new theme feature, there are more themes released in the UK! Not only do they have the Cookies & Classy Pink... http://uk.playstation.com/games-media/news.../Make-it-yours/ ... the thing they did with those themes are just replacing the icons... which can be done within 10 mins judging by the state the XMB modding scene is in now... and those themes are WAYYYYY behind what we can do on our CFW PSP's... but still... at least they made an effort... keep that up and they will see PSP sales rising and less troubles from the homebrew community! And they can make themes 10times better than the homemade themes now because they know every single function of the files so they can make it as wild as they want... so we just wait and see...

So the PSP slim I found by far cheapest in Malaysia is RM750 with a 2GB card... that's the MINIMUM size you need... but hey if you got a friend who's going to honk kong or overseas... ask them to get one for you there... I counted from Honk Kong, including delivery charges... the total is only around RM650.... don't worry about the region because Sony is planning to enable users to change the region in future firmwares so that you can receive live contents such as LiveTV( currently only in Japan) anywhere you go. But of course if you can't wait and got the budget, get one then. Good luck u guys.

SONY STOPPED PSP production of the FAT k... thats enough about it~
And about the new slim, nothing bad about it unless you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ( condition in which the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist, a narrow confined space. Since the median nerve provides sensory and motor functions to the thumb and three middle fingers, many symptoms may result.) and worry the smooth flat back might hurt your precious hands...

Other than that, everything is bright... lcd brighter, more RAM, faster loading, longer battery life, LIGHTER, slimmer, SLEEKIER, colourful, FUNCTION-PACKED, louder speaker, and less noise when loading UMD. Plus the CPU speed now is fixed at 333MHz ( it's only like 222MHz max on the FAT unless you got a custom firmware) so everything is much much faster. And the hidden secret is faster charging time... no one stated it anywhere... the old psp I need about 4 hours.. the slim only took me about 2-3 hours! Maybe it's the new charger but it's definitely faster.

I think there was this device that was placed in Sony Centres in certain countries that enables players to connect to the whole world and play... much like PS3's Home... I know they had one in singapore... but there's no news about it over a year ago haha.

You are experiencing lag at XMB? shocking.gif How come?
By the way, a noob question coming up, is there any way of outputing to screen with fat guy using homebrew? I tried RemoteJoySDL but then cannot install the USB driver.

I remember reading there is a new headphone model coming out either INCLUDED with the PSP Slim, or sold seperately, depend on your retailer... Maybe it has somehting to do wth this???

And about the 4GB card, I have a friend who's now in japan, and he bought a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 4Gb from a not-so-official Sony shop costing him about RM300... then when he realized it was a fake card, he said it was 3x slower when he checked with a software (forgot what name) and he was REALLY PISSED OFF (over reacted maybe biggrin.gif )

So he went to get one from Amazon.com, the same thing, only RM210, and it was ORIGINAL... so he tried it and NO LAG... the speed is what it should be too... so the conclusion is your card is a fake one...

You can check your card's originality by going to XMB--> Memory Stick --> Triangle button --> Information

if it says MagicGate: Unknown then it's fake, if it says MagicGate: Supported then it's real.... but take note sometimes Supported is also fake because some have managed to make it so real..... the best way is go to Sony.com.my and verify your card PIN number~

okay 2 things I wanna say:

1) Too bad you got a BRAND NEW PSP SLIM with custom firmware built in cuz if you had the original thing (whole package factory-fresh) then you can backup your flash and IDStorage keys 1st... just in case~

2) To get themes on your slim, you need:

- Your PSP Slim
- Custom firmware 3.60M33
- An upgraded theme (means upgrded .rco files...)
- a copy of CXMB v2.4

Steps are:
1- make sure you have 3.60M33
2- look for a theme you want
3- upgrade those theme files (.rco's) refer to here http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=78994
4- download CXMB here http://www.2alien.info/stuff/cxmbv2.4.zip
5- after upgrading those .rco's, DO NOT put them in flash0 cuz sony somehow protected it...
6- put your .rco's in ms0:/CXMB/
7- enable CXMB by placing the source files into ms0:/CXMB/vsh/ and go to recovery to enable it.

NOTE: you cannot load prx's yet, until they get decrypted, and custom fonts will crash the browser.
You can however load the reboot_plugin.prx, and the eboot_launcher_plugin.prx out of the CXMB/vsh/module folder.
Just make sure to name them to the corrosponding icon you want them to launch from.

Thanks for the great guide here  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

But is the setup totally the same for the PSP Fat?

well if it's for the FAT... you can do LOADS MORE than the slim!!! Bcuz the slim currently can only be changed based on .rco themes...... where as for the fat.... you can do more with prx, pgf's and lots more..... means more COOLER themes... but hey if you can wait for a few more days I believe some developer will manage to release a homebrew to mod themes just like the fat psp... just hang in there Slim users!!!

FAT PSP capable themes:

SLIM PSP capable themes (currently):

you get the idea???

Anyway here's a BUNCH of themes someone just shared on the qj.net network..... if you're a FAT user, you can use it only if you're on 3.5x M33 firmwares..... SLIM users DO NOT use this as the files are not for 3.60M33 yet...

333MHz is the cpu speed only so increase the speed won't increase your gaming speed... remember that every1...

And to those who are playing downloaded games... where do you get the games?

Unlikely for PS3-slim haha... Sony claims that the NEXT-GENERATION CONSOLE, PLAYSTATION 3 will be enough to power the future for around 10-15 years more... So I guess in the mean time, the PS3 will be the latest game console from Sony for the next few years or decade... not counting portable consoles of course haha.

And when Sony releases slim versions of consoles, it's a sign that the next upgrade wil be just around the block; same like the original Playstation (PSOne) and Playstation 2(PS2 Slim). So I think by 2017 everyone would own a PS3 due to it's low price then, and the 2020 celebration can be bought on Blu-Ray discs... and also the PS3 will be able to receive more channels than Astro (maybe a merge???) because by 2020 I think PS3 can watch channels from around the world with 100Gbps internet speeds provided by TM haha... man I think Sony is putting a cap on the growth of technology for the next few years so it's a bad thing for us... and there's no doubt about that because they (Sony) is pretty much the LEADING expert on today's technology o when they said enough, it's enough... PS3 will be the max technology level for the next few years haha

This just in: The custom firmware 3.71M33 has just been successfully proven CUSTOMIZABLE. Proven by someone who had managed to change the 1-12.bmp, custom wave, and custom Visualizer i nmusic player. And More and more prx extensions are said to work on it too! Anyone give it a try let us know.

And about M33/ Dark_Alex saying this will be his last release, I think he means this will be his last release under the name Dark_Alex and Team M33.... because he had given so much for the custom firmware scene, so I don't think he's just leaving like that. Besides he's already said he's quitting back when he was Dark_Alex... then ends up in Team M33!!!
