Hi guys,

Need some oppinion here. If i am posting this in the wrong thread, do guide me from here ok..Thanks..

I am thinking of getting a PSP, particularly for me and my gf. I wanted to know, is now a good time to get a PSP?

I am not so much of an enthuasist in consoles arena but i do heard about some news regarding a new version of PSP coming soon (as soon as September). In this case, would it be better to wait for that one to be released first?

What might be the difference between them (if the rumour is true) and will the release causes the price of current PSP to drop? I am thinking of getting it in the next month and would like to know the best time.

Besides that, what should i look for when buying PSP?Of course, i will be playing original UMD games as well as homebrew ones. I just needed to know the basic neccesity to look out for when buying a PSP. Thanks alot...

New PSP has a TV-out feature (great quality, mind you) which gets us all drooling. smile.gif

One thing i need to clarify on this PSP Lite as called by some of the people. Is it actually the same as the current PSP BUT with additional features? Will it be using the same firmware as what current PSP is using or it will be on different one which means longer waiting time for homebrew games? But in term of other major stuff like battery life, screen quality and size, is there any difference?

QUOTE(laichong @ Aug 1 2007, 11:46 AM)
if u know reading chinese... here got a site PSP Difference (CHINESE WEBSITE)

and last nite i went to digital mall pj, ask around those gamers stall. got 1 selling psp in RM750.

*
Wow..Nice one there.Actually i am waiting for some news regarding the PSP Lite and might only get it by the end of this month probably..

One thing i found confusing, whats the difference between those firmware?and which one is better? For example, you mentioned 3.4OE, 3.51 M33..What the difference between them and which one would you guys take?

Hi guys, just want to tell you that I've bought my PSP system! woohoo! icon_rolleyes.gif
Bought a white one, hard case cover, 4GB MSD and 3.52 M33 (i think it's the first version). biggrin.gif

A few brief questions:
Are there any internet browsers for the PSP which actually parse CSS tags? blush.gif
Aaa... what more can I do with PSP (aside playing games)? I'm like sooo excited right now... hehehe... rclxm9.gif
*
Hi bro, can i know where you get it and by how much..I am interested to get it also..Whaha...

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Aug 2 2007, 01:33 AM)
Hmm..
I've been considering the recently announced PSP slim..
Wonder if I should get it or get a PSP again but in another color..
I sold my current black PSP to my friend..

The slim one looks pretty sleek though..Hrm..
*
In the same case, i am just considering whether to wait for the PSP Slim or get the original PSP now...LOL...

QUOTE(zidane88 @ Aug 2 2007, 07:33 AM)
i'm planning to get a psp, but i heard that many shops changes their parts. Do you guys know which shop can be trusted?
*
The thing i am worried about when buying PSP from unknown source is that i am at risk of getting Refurbished set though.Heard many cases of refurbished PSP set though..

Guys,

I might be crazy enough to get a PSP for myself as early as next weekend (originally planning for end of this month) as i could not bear the ressistance in getting one..LOL..

Anyway, just wondering, do you guys have any recommendation on where to get one?

My requirements are simple :

- Price must be reasonable and good, with nice bundle.

- Hopefully not getting imitation battery etc (maybe except MSDP) due to lower pricing.

- Good service and friendly.

Is there any recommendation place on where to get it? Thanks alot..

Besides that, i might be getting along an ORI UMD as well. Any recommendation on good games that worth the money in purchasing?

Nah, that seems like a long waiting time and doesnt seem to have too much difference except for the TV out which i think i would rarely use as well..

Anyway, i went to look around for pricing today and decided to get mine after some hard time resisting..LOL..Got it from bro bernard and mine is Ceramic White. Using 3.51 M33-7.

btw, the slimmer psp consumes less power and has mem of 64mb instead of 32mb (current one), if i'm not mistaken
*
Yea, its awesome. White still looks the best to me. In fact, i went there and see a few colors on hand at that time. Saw black (of course tongue.gif ), white, silver and blue there.

Black - It was too common and i decided not to get that.

Blue - At first, it looks nice, but on closer look, it really seems too "plasticky" and too fake to me.

Silver - Doesn't really up to my taste.

Last, i just got the white one even though i know more care is needed to prevent it from being dirty..

BTW, any nice games to recommend guys? Those that are popular currently..

Thanks alot for those good recommendation. Damn, my PSP battery is finished already after 1 day of playing. Indicating that i wont let it go yesterday..LOL..

Besides this, any people here knows where i can get original UMD at a good price? I might be looking into purchasing some original UMD, particularly TALKMAN but do not know where have good choices. Went to Times Square Sony Style but they have limited UMDs as well. Any place have tones of choices?

Ey bro, may I know how long does your battery lasts from full charge? (in System Settings -> Battery Information)

For UMDs, have u checked www.tsb.com.my and www.gamers.com.my?
Even tho their choices are quite limited, they might have the game that u want. wink.gif
*
Er..Cant really remember as i only charged it once. Should be roughly about 6 hours as written there. I will be charging it tonight when i get back and will let you know after i check it out..

Anyway, how long does it take to fully charge a PSP?Does overcharging (charging finish but still not yet unplug the cable) cause any problem?

I am tempted to get another battery (2200mAH) original from Sony but it cost about RM180. Anyone have any idea how much it costs now and will it give extra battery life (by how long)..

Hmm, the normal original 1800mAH is rated to give somewhere around 7 hours if i'm not mistaken. so, the 2200mAH should add a lil more 2 hours i guess...
*
Well, really do hope the 2200mAH one can give more gameplay time though. Roughly about 3 - 4 hours (according to my prediction) is barely enough..LOL..Would need to charge every now and then..

Play-asia have lots of ori UMD. Cheaper than local shop. Free shipping to Malaysia. The only downside is if you are using free shipping, the delivery might takes 5-10 days. You can also op for courier postage like Fedex but with additional cost.

Hi, thanks alot for the link there. I will check it out as there are definitely some games that i wanted to try out..LOL..

And how do you guys make my payment for Play-asia? (I do not own a credit card nor PayPal)
Thanks.

I am interested to get that Battery pack though but not sure how much it cost and how long will it last when compared to the original 1800mAH. All i have seen is the 2200mAH version which is on sale at Sony Style..

For sure it will have but it might take some time unless the Slim one can use back the same firmware as current PSP.

Anyway, saw a review here regarding the PSP Slim. Hopefully this is not a repost..

I think it's in MP4 format. Coverters I've used so far:

If you own a Mac, HandBrake is the choice, used it to rip movies for Apple TV. Quite impressive I must say.

For Windoze, theres #1 DVD Ripper, MP4Converter's DVD to Apple TV Converter 4, and Magic Video Converter.

HandBrake for Windoze is a NO NO.

Thanks for the choices there. But do i need to set it to a specific resolution in order for it to play video? Would love to try it out though..

MHF2? I never had played the game before though. Is it nice? Any place to see any review?LOL..I still have yet to get a UMD for myself though and my main priority now is to get TALKMAN. However, i might wait while before getting one though..LOL...

Erm, I'm not quite sure how long it takes to fully charge a 1800mAh battery from zero to 100% as I charge it whenever possible (to avoid the battery from warming up).

And nope, there's no problem while charging the PSP while it's on (or even playing games). smile.gif

You mean its better to charge even though its not full rather than wait till its fully finish first?

Well, this is my experience when i purchase my PSP from bernard.

At first, he did ask me to make sure the screen does not have any dead pixel. That is the first thing he ask me to do when i said i wanted to get a PSP.

However, he did state that dead pixel might come at a later stages, depending on luck, as his first PSP which is dead pixel free when he use it already have one now. smile.gif

'Overclocking' your PSP to 333MHz might help. But it will drain your battery quicker.

I'm not sure bout if 4GB has high speed.
Anyway, if u're using 3.52 M33, hold R button and switch it on. If u did it correctly, u will enter the recovery menu which has lots of options. Choose CPU speed and u'll see XMB and UMD. Choose UMD speed from 20 MHz to 333 MHz. If I'm not mistaken, default is 222 MHz.
*
Just wondering, did you OC your UMD speed?

QUOTE(quiksilve @ Aug 9 2007, 09:39 AM)
Yes 4GB memory stick does have high speed version. But if you really compare Sandisk and Sony version.

The Sandisk speed is definitly faster even when benchmarking it against a Sony High Speed Memory Stick.

Personally i've used both version for quite some time now and find that Sandisk MSPD is definitly faster on load up times and accessing the XMB menu. You try to transfer files on both Sandisk and Sony MPSD, then you will notice the different times it takes to load data into your memory stick and vice versa.
Here is a link that shows the battle between Sandisk and Sony's Memory stick pro duo
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=3925

To overclock your PSP is hold the right button and power on till you access the recovery meny.

This should work on both OE firmware and M33 firmware.

But i would recommed to just stick back with the default 222Mhz since overclocking for a prolong period will run your PSP hardware quite hot and risk damaging the motherboard.

Regards and have a nice day
QS

OIC, thanks alot for your information here. Wondering what difference does it make between OCing and not OCing the UMD speed?

sweat.gif sony claims the new psp has better battery life..
err...so which is right?
*
Well, depending on how you would see it though..

I saw a preview/review in Gamespot before regarding this issue. Sony "CLAIMS" that the new PSP Slim is going to utilize lower power consumption (new technology i guess) and will result in saving battery life = More Battery Life.

However, Sony will also be bundling together the PSP Slim with a 1200mAH (IIRC) battery which translate to lower power and result in shorter batter life = Lower Battery Life.

A combination of both are actually resulting in the same battery life as current PSP. Therefore, it depends on how you see it though..

One more thing, Sony also "claims" that you can use older generation PSP battery (which is thicker) to power up the PSP. Meaning, you can actually use the 1800mAH battery on the PSP Slim for a longer battery life when compared to the older PSP. One down side in this is, you will not be able to close the battery cover as the older battery is thicker. smile.gif
