Is anyone else playing Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords? There's some discussion over in the DS section but I'm surprised no PSP owner is talking about it yet.
It's a simple Bejeweled clone given complexity and long-term playability with the inclusion of traditional RPG mechanics.
The end-result is an addictive gaming experience. Lumines may have more style and flash, but I feel Puzzle Quest is going to have longer-lasting appeal. You'll keep on telling yourself one more battle, one more quests, one more level ...
The game is designed by Steve Fawkner, the veteran developer who gave the strategy gaming world both the turn-based Warlords series as well as its RTS version, the Warlords: Battlecry series.
The downside is the guy doesn't have much of a track record when it comes to bugs. Both the DS and PSP versions have bugs. I've read of the PSP freezing but I've not had the misfortune of suffering it yet. I am, however, annoyed the companion bonus mechanic has been rendered useless.
That said, the game is eminently playable as the Penny Arcade guys will testify.
I've put together some links and a brief intro here if you'd like to know more. Now if you'll pardon me, I've got back to the game. My Druid isn't going to level up on his own you know.
