So, I'm coming to Malaysia in 2 weeks. Can I buy a hacked PSP slim and for how much? I just spent 2 hrs surfing to understand it all and I'm still confused!

I dont even know if I can play officially bought games in Asia on a US Machine (or vice versa)!

If anyone knows, how much will a hacked PSP Slim in Low Yat/S. Wang set me back? How about em games?

Thanks!

maybe the difference lies in the memory size different, the slim ver homebrew may be coded to optimize the additional memory

it just like computer softwares... no different if u are using 512mb or 8gb of ram in your computer.. it still the same software.. it just the hardware itself that do the job. maybe for psp.. the firmware inside tell how to allocate those programs inside the ram. maybe laaa....
*
Well, in that case, i guess there will only be optimization of the extra ram rite? Meaning, when M33 comes out with the 3.60 firmware, PSP fat are able to use it?

The point for me is, why is there a 3.70 firmware that is ONLY for the FAT instead of the Slim? Wouldn't they be on the same hardware + some additional ram feature?

OK, this is how it goes..

AFAIK, games on the PSP are region free. Thus, no matter where you buy the PSP from, you will still be able to buy and play games anywhere around the world irregardless of region. Thus, you do not need to get specific region PSP. However, this does not applies to UMD movies though..

As off now, i am pretty sure most of the PSP Slim available on sale now are not on CFW. Thus, you will still need to wait for it to arrives. Heck, the last time i check, even M33 site is stating they are "coming soon" instead of released. Therefore, just wait for it to arrive and do it on your own. If not, when its here, i do feel people will jack up the price of the PSP Slim..

Games wise, i dont think there will be any difference between games for PSP Slim or the Fat version. So, they would roughly be around RM50 - RM180. Other "ahem" games, i think you will have your way of finding it..

Hope this helps..

3.70 is fatty's exclusive, there still some differences between both PSPs, tv out and battery control may need some level of firmware control

3.60M33 is out now - they said is for slim only...

I think 3.70 firmware is tailored to suit the hardware of the fat ver. which doesn't have the extra RAMs (is this where the NANDs are?) and video output. So, different hardware. It's like having a D-Link devices, for a device, let's say a wireless router AirPlus G+ 2.4GHz model, i think they have several builds (and each build different firmwares, don't flash using other build's firmware it will brick your wireless router) for that even tho all the models do the same thing and look exactly the same (same interface, same casing, etc). Its the inner hardware which differentiates them.

One question tho, how do games tell which firmware the PSP is using and how do they verify it? Can't we just change the string of the firmware to play games which require certain firmwares?

Thanks for the clarification here..

But in this case, IF we look at things backwards now, do you guys see any problem for PSP Slim firmware to work on the PSP Fat?I mean, OK, there are some features that might not be function on the PSP Fat and yes, the ram optimization part will be some problem but in theoretical term, it would still be usable on the Fat version right?

If the firmware codes points/refers to the RAM memory addresses (physical address), there will be problems. So, I don't think it can be used on the fat which has less RAM.

It's a Sony *spoken in a sexy women voice*.

Well, i think they didn't reprogrammed the whole firmware. Just the memory module. Small part, no big deal for a big company to hire programmers. wink.gif

p/s: This is only the logical explanation I can come up with. My logical view, my point of view. biggrin.gif If it's different from the real thing or it's illogical, don't flame me arrr... tongue.gif

Most probably, Sony will stop producing fat PSPs. The updates... not sure if they will continue or discontinue it. Hopefully they'll continue...

well.. dont worry about firmware dev, dont worry about games...
it always there for you.. dont u think they will lose fan if they do like what u worrying for? haha... lose fan means lose sales.. lose sales means lose money.. later everybody dont want to buy sony product.. because later if they release new slimmer version, older fat cant use.. hahaha.. aiyaa.. dont worry so much. just enjoy.. they're pro.. they think all circumstances.. worst case scenario.. tongue.gif

LOL Sony won't discontinue their firmware updates until the PSP is phased out by another next-gen portable handheld (PSP 2 Maybe tongue.gif ) Its against the terms and conditions user agreement unless Sony wanted to get their a$$ sued of course, Sony HAVE to support their formal product till the latter. Also Sony would sure want to protect their UMD format and sales.

Yeah Sony would MOST likely discontinue the PSP "Classic" since they no longer advertise their formal PSP so much like before. Same like what happened to the NDS and NDS LITE.

1st of all, Sony will discontinue the PSP fat(PSP-100x) because there is no point manufacturing it anymore because the PSP slim/lite(PSP-2000) costs cheaper and more function... plus it's new... And of course newer firmwares will continue to come out for both, but some of it's features will not be accessible on the PSP fat such as video capabilities that are available on the 3.70.

Oh btw FYI 3.70 is not officially announced worldwide only certain regions, so they WILL BE announcing a NEW OFFICIAL firmware, the 3.71. It has the same stuff as the 3.70. So I guess they are repeating what they did with the 3.50 firmware in the past... the release new ones just days before the really complete update is ready. So I'm guessing Team M33 won't start on the 3.7x CFW yet until few days pass...
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/09/11/...d-psp-firmware/

Nw the video out feature requires certain cables ( 2 types to be exact: 1 wont be able to support game play ) plus the quality is not so amazing just satisfactory for the videos... and the games will not appear full screen only about 1/4 of the full screen. If you have a psp, most of u will have a ps2 or a ps3 then... so for gaming on the big screen... stick to ps2 & ps3...

And regarding the new theme feature, there are more themes released in the UK! Not only do they have the Cookies & Classy Pink... http://uk.playstation.com/games-media/news.../Make-it-yours/ ... the thing they did with those themes are just replacing the icons... which can be done within 10 mins judging by the state the XMB modding scene is in now... and those themes are WAYYYYY behind what we can do on our CFW PSP's... but still... at least they made an effort... keep that up and they will see PSP sales rising and less troubles from the homebrew community! And they can make themes 10times better than the homemade themes now because they know every single function of the files so they can make it as wild as they want... so we just wait and see...

So the PSP slim I found by far cheapest in Malaysia is RM750 with a 2GB card... that's the MINIMUM size you need... but hey if you got a friend who's going to honk kong or overseas... ask them to get one for you there... I counted from Honk Kong, including delivery charges... the total is only around RM650.... don't worry about the region because Sony is planning to enable users to change the region in future firmwares so that you can receive live contents such as LiveTV( currently only in Japan) anywhere you go. But of course if you can't wait and got the budget, get one then. Good luck u guys.

now they release a theme.. for a very long time.. LOL.

i agreed with monster hunter.. sony must support their product until it is replaced by next gen handheld console.. see ps1, few years after ps2 is released, it is still kickin.. but sad for ps2.. only not even a year after ps3, new games is already less..

I guess you all didn't know that the old PSP production was already halted prior to the Slim's announcement.

Well, IF you are SONY, there is already no point for you in continuing to produce the PSP fat since the PSP Slim is already out. I don't see SONY abondoning the PSP Fat real soon by discontinuing the firmware producing as there are still quite a number of PSP Fat user out there. My guess is, they will slow it down until everyone switches to the PSP Slim

Damn, how i wish they make an announcement that the Slim firmware is usable on the Fat.

Probably they'll just commonize the firmware which is both compatible for FAT and SLIM..
It makes software design and production much simpler and cheaper..
