i thought NAV has no impact on fund performance?

i mean buying a fund with very high NAV or very low NAV shouldn't matter right? as long as their ROI in % is good
*
hmm.gif some would also like to consider this 17.08...maybe they are not up to it....eventhough they wanted good ROI...

Eric Wong, Head of Research at Lipper, a Thomson Reuters Company, in Hong Kong, reminds investors not to overly emphasize on “returns” and neglect other aspects of fund performance. “Investors tend to focus on the return of funds in their selection process. They should also consider how funds manage their risk or volatility and preserve their capital. Also, if investors plan to invest for a longer time horizon, fund expense should be under their consideration. Assuming all other factors constant, high fund expense can erode the returns of funds over time.”

Foolish Summary

Although I have to admit that there are fund managers in the market who have managed to consistently outperform the market, think long-term, and be true contrarians, they are far from the norm and few in numbers. That’s why we have to understand that the best fund manager to manage our money is perhaps, always ourselves.

Confessions Of A Hedge Fund Manager
......Something in the air

I was recently invited to a private seminar in Singapore at which an old acquaintance, hedge fund manager, Lars Kroijer, was the guest speaker. The audience was primarily made up of hedge fund managers.
.........Lars’ seminar was going swimmingly until he dropped the bombshell of the afternoon. He told the audience that most investors, including professional money managers, cannot beat the market.

Understanding Risks & Returns of Bonds February 11, 2009
Different bond classes exhibit different risk and return profiles. The correlations between bond classes also differ. An investor who understands the differences can make a more appropriate allocation between different bond funds to form a portfolio matching their risk appetite.

hmm.gif how long had you had this portfolio?
hmm.gif isn't it usually profit value should be bigger than IRR value if invested > 1 yr?
ex...
ROI 10% 3 yrs = abt 3.x% irr
ROI 20% 5 yrs = abt 3.x% irr

So, if you buy a fund today, and it increases by 0.3% the next month or in 30 days, the ROI is 0.3%.
The IRR is
= (100.3%)^(1/(30/365))-1
= 3.71%

If you buy another fund today, and it jumps 3% tomorrow, the ROI is 3%. The IRR is
= (103%)^(1/(1/365))-1
= 4848172.45%

*
hmm.gif so if the next time my brokers said...."Most of the stocks that I hold has an IRR of > 20%"
I know what it can means too.... brows.gif brows.gif

hmm.gif what do you think now....about when the maths is correct then is it obvious that IRR can be used as a meaningful representation even if the investment is less than 1 year?

luckily i sold more than half of my KGF before it drop below single digit. Now it is near the borderline to red. Transferred most of them into RHB ATR fund. this ATR fund seems gooding.

too bad didnt anticipate china fund drop, my big cap china from 20% to negative and now just back to positive 0. something lol.. Is it time to topup china fund? or shud i just top up more on ATR so my fixed income portion is bigger to as i feel like shit storm is coming soon.

hmm.gif if i can feel the shit storm is coming, instead of moving to FI, I would sell all and keep cash in CMF...then wait for redeployment as FI could be affected too.
