The purpose of this tered is to show the difference in income tax between Singapore and Malaysia

We use /k/ income as an example around RM20k/month. I didn't include the misc deductions as it will be too complicated. So I just give the basic example.

Malaysia
Consider someone earn RM280000 in 2015, taxable income is RM265000 after deduct RM9000 for Individual relief and RM6000 for KWSP.

Refer to
http://www1.malaysiasalary.com/income-tax/...n-malaysia.html

Taxable income RM265000. Total tax payable is RM47900 + 15000 X 0.245 = 51575, or 51575/280000 = 18.42%

Singapore
RM280000/2.8 is SGD100k. Taxable income = 100k - 1k personal relief - 12k CPF = 87k

Based on https://www.iras.gov.sg/irashome/Individual...come-Tax-Rates/

Income tax for 87k taxable income is SGD3350 + 7000 * 0.115 = 4155SGD. Tax rate is 4.155%

Conclusion?

I can't believe some people at here always comparing Malaysia and Singapore.

It shows you that you are ungrateful person. Don't you feel tired comparing all the time? Insulting your home country all the time?

No because this is not a living standards comparison, this is to show how much is the income tax in each country, we need to use absolute values.

Anyway Roughly income tax for SGD280k annualy would be around SGD 42k

Which translate of 42k * 2.8 =112000

RM 112k annually income tax.

Malaysia RM280k would roughly around 51k

112k - 51k = RM 61000

Difference 61k or 46% shocking.gif

Singapore GST = 7% in SGD sweat.gif

61k can buy you new car in cash thumbup.gif

No because this is not a living standards comparison, this is to show how much is the income tax in each country, we need to use absolute values.

But but...

US > Singapore
Australia > Singapore

However,

USD65k income tax is 15-25% (family or single).
AUD85k income tax is ~20%

Anyway Roughly income tax for SGD280k annualy would be around SGD 42k

Which translate of 42k * 2.8 =112000

RM 112k annually income tax.
Malaysia RM280k would roughly around 51k

112k - 51k = RM 61000

Difference 61k or 46%  shocking.gif

Singapore GST = 7% in SGD  sweat.gif
61k can buy you new car in cash  thumbup.gif

It is not a comparison between living standards, it is a comparison of the income tax for each country. In other words, the purpose of this thread is to show how much is actually being taxed in the income. Therefore, we need to use absolute values. Your point is invalid.

Tax rate is 4.155%
Conclusion?

people like you like to say dollar to dollar comparison... there are no such thing as dollar to dollar due to globalization. welcome to the truth!

BTW a 5 digit monthly earner is just an average earner in SG. DOLLAR to DOLLAR if you take the same tax bracket, it's just 20% difference.

You'll need to compensate the Singaporean income with PPP rates. But generally Singapore's tax for all means and purposes will top out at about 10 percent.

Yes, the pay less than Malaysians.
