Been looking at sofas as well and really like King Living's Neo and Zaza. But are they worth the price?? You could get a good quality sofa for half their price though?

Anyone have reviews or after sales experience for king living and crown living?

I'm currently on the lookout for sofa's as well and have spent far too much time on this subject for my liking. I can't comment about Crown but can share some thoughts/research I've done on King Living:

- premium pricing in Malaysia, so unfortunately you won't find much feedback locally i.e. people who buy King Living are not on forums I reckon.
- main selling point is their metal frames, which they claim is anti sag and aesthetically will give a cleaner look. What I mean is that for sofa's above 2m in length, you won't find a middle leg below the sofa. Other sofa brands tend to have a middle leg to prevent sofa sag.
- based on reviews in Australia, you won't find any issues in relation to their sofa bases, legs and seat cushions i.e. very stable, won't creak, break, etc. However, as most of their sofa's use loose back cushions, these tend to sag after use and can look a bit off if you don't constantly air/puff your cushions. This is considered normal wear and tear so is not covered under warranty.
- they claim to offer 25 years warranty, but if I'm not mistaken, this covers frames and other solid bases only.
- admittedly, they have some of the most comfortable sofa's out there. My butt has sat on far too many sofa's to remember each one, but I can definitely remember sitting on the King Living Bellaire sofa. It's the most comfortable sofa that I've ever sat on. So much so that my wife has said that if she can't have that sofa, she wants me to get an Ikea sofa instead and nothing in between.

So are they worth the price?
- probably not if you're comparing against decent local sofa brands. Currently, I have a Cavenzi sofa which is around 10 years old, still serving my family well and it costs less than RM2k. For context, presently you could get a Rozel full leather sofa for the price of non-leather King Living one.
- they are worth the price if you compare against imported/premium brands such as Muuto, Wendelbo, Ambient Living, Bo Concept, etc. The prices are somewhat similar but with King Living, you get a metal framed sofa. Others tend to use wood/plywood.

Personally, I'm currently 70/30 in favour of getting King Living mainly because of the design and comfort of some of their sofas. I'm old so things like design, quality, comfort and longevity matter to me more than cost. But that's just me. My advice, sit on as many sofa's as possible and trust your butt tongue.gif

Wow, thank you for the detailed reply and thought process. I've also been spending tons of time with the whole sofa situation and at this point I just need to just pick one and get over it. The next one is gonna be mattresses and that's another minefield to navigate.

Trusting my butt will probably land me at King. I sat on the zaza and they're so comfortable. You sink in but at the same time it feels firm. Which is strange because the other sofas I've sat feels like I'm just sitting on a piece of high-dense foam, which is not as comfortable. Not sure what their formulas for fillings are but it's working. King's neo sofa looks good but is quite a bit firmer.

At this point, I'm also contemplating as to whether the steel frame really makes a big difference and whether their 25 year warranty just looks good on paper. Will I want to sit on the same sofa for the next 10-25 years? What happens if the cushions sag.. they're not under warranty either.

And I'll take note of Bellaire. Will go have a sit when I'm visiting their showroom again. They're probably sick of me not making up my mind and seeing me so often, wasting their fancy avene mineral water.

i bought 3 seaters sofa (aquaclean fabric) from Crown about 3 yrs back in 1 of the exhibition. Very straight forward and they have to move the sofa from ground to level 3 (no lift). i told the sales person during the purchase and remark was written in the order book.

After some time, i visited there new show room at Balakong C118, just window shopping and to get some ideas for furniture designs and trends.

Ohh thanks for the comment. I'll keep the aquaclean fabric in mind when I'm visiting showrooms. Personally a fabric person than leather because they just feel better hahahahaha (and are more cost-saving).

Haha. You and me both my friend. Now I actively avoid taking any water from them because of embarrassment.

In relation to their seat cushions, most utilise a combination of individual pocket springs and foam/gel/feathers which accounts for the comfort I guess. Also, based on my experience, anything with decent pocket springs usually can last upwards of 5 to 10 years so sagging for the seat at least shouldn't be an issue unless you're a sumo wrestler.

I do agree that the warranty is a nice thing to have but really doesn't influence the purchase decision. The way I view this purchase is by simply asking myself, how long am I going to keep this sofa (refurbish my place) for? I noticed that I go through this exercise around every 10 years, so basically any furniture purchase I make now is for the next 10 years. That way, the cost of the furniture is spread over 10 years which then justifies whatever cost in comfortable with.

Additionally, as long as you get a timelessly designed sofa, there's always the option to apply new upholstery to keep things fresh.

Ah I see, yeah I'll bring my own water bottle next time I visit lol.

And I see your point on the warranty part. Recently saw this store at Quill mall selling sofas as well. I think the store is called urban edge. Very contemporary-modern. Wondering if they're better value-wise.

I feel like them more I've decided my mind, the more options pop up. This is like a never-ending cycle. I probably just need to bite the bullet and just choose one. End this cycle of indesiciveness then move on to the world of mattresses lol. It's just King's sofas are so above the market price of other sofas I've been seeing (and no, I don't compare them to the ones from fancy places like flexiform because their sofas are like 20k which is ridiculous). Sigh...

I've been to Urban Edge as well tongue.gif

I believe they carry Scandinavian brands such as Muuto and Wendelbo. I'd go so far to say that their designs are better than King Living but unfortunately not as comfortable. These have primarily wood or MDF frames and are slightly more expensive.

You'll definitely win in terms of design but not on value.

I know what you mean. Just think of it as buying a car. What class of sofa/car do you want? BMW class, Honda class or Proton class? Is a BMW worth double the price of a Honda? Probably not but you still have people buying because of various reasons, some logical while most are emotional. I think you have to first decide the class (or budget) of sofa that you want and then decide from there. You'll narrow your choices which will hopefully make it easier to choose.

Best of luck.

I totally agree on the design comment. Urban edge's overall concept and sofa designs are quite modern, minimalist and contemporary, which I like. But of course, King's win in terms of comfortability. But just slightly in my opinion (I compared to weldelbo).

I'm still on the edge about wood Vs steel frames. I've read some conflicting views online, some say wood is better while others steel. I guess like everything, it's just a leap of faith eh? Hahahaha.

Thanks for the best wishes. And all the best on your sofa finding journey too!

Yeah. If anyone's in the market at this particular range, another good sofa manufacturer would be Tekni Direct. They're on FB and I think it's worthwhile to pay their showroom in Semenyih a visit.

The people there are quite knowledgeable, very helpful and patient (my experience at least). Don't quote me on this, but they actually manufacture sofa's for quite a few branded local brands. They allowed me to take a short walk on their manufacturing floor and I definitely recognised some of the designs of the other brands.

Is tekni direct affiliated with Tekni Malaysia? It seems that there are two companies called Tekni, that sells sofas.

I browsed through the Tekni direct Facebook and the full leather sofa (with rounded edges) looks quite modern and interesting! Tempted.

Yup they're related. Should've mentioned in my initial post about them. However, Tekni Malaysia (showroom in PJ) is their premium branch, bringing in furniture and deco from Europe mostly. So primarily, these are sofa's from Holland, Italy, etc., but pricing is crazy. If you think King Living is expensive, you ain't seen nothing yet.

By the way, paid a visit to King Living again yesterday (took the water this round) and suddenly my wife is obsessed with the Zaza. I'd be fine with this but true to form, she only gets obsessed with something that's even more expensive than her previous obsession. Pokai.

But I digress. You should definitely pay Tekni Direct in Semenyih a visit as some of their designs are unique and pretty nice. They specialise in leather sofa's though, so I didn't ask at the time if they made their sofa's in fabric. Regardless, I'm definitely bringing my wife there to have a final look before I pull the trigger on any sofa.

Hahahahaha if you visited the Bangsar showroom, the first thing you see is the zaza set with the amazing looking concrete coffee table (that is sharp and probably will hurt your toes if you accidentally knock on it).

The zaza for me just looks very modern and super comfortable. Also like the movable arms that can extend out, good for naps.

Now i'm super conflicted between king's zaza vs. tekni direct's tori sofa. The latter seem so reasonably priced for semi-aniline leather that's so tempting. It's also rounded, which makes it look..hmm.. special? But Heesz does a sofa identical to tekni's tori at half the price. Dupe? hmmm

Heesz is half leather because I did enquire before for my mother-in-law. You need to add another RM1k (I think) to get full leather one. The Tekni is more expensive because of the use of their aniline leather, which is their 'best' leather. It's the soft one which scratches easily but develops a really nice patina over time. The sofa should be cheaper if you specify the lower grade (but more robust) leather. I believe they have 3 grades of leather with great colour choices. My next sofa is going to be a dark blue one, and honestly no where else that I know of has dark blue leather as a colour option except for these guys.

In terms of pricing, you'll be looking at anywhere between RM4k to RM8k for a 3 seater/chaise sofa, depending on type of leather and design. If I'm not mistaken, the different leather options will cause the sofa's price to differ around RM1k to RM1.5k from each other.

The above prices are their standard 'discounted' prices though. From time to time they'll have clearances, where RM3k can get you a full leather 3 seater. Honestly, If I was looking for a leather sofa, I'd get it from Tekni.
*
From their Facebook page, the full aniline sofa is RM5,500. I think that's quite a bargain since its full allegedly "good" quality leather. Still very much cheaper compared to the high-end brands like Kings. Seem like too good a deal actually..hmm..

I'm not sure whether you have answered this question before but why fabric over leather? I read that fabrics apparently more comfortable but the trouble of maintenance is such a chore, as compared to leather where you can just wipe with a damp cloth.

Anyone bought sofas from Soffurni? Never heard of them before this but their sofas felt pretty good to me. They even have a few brances open already.

I've been to their Ekocheras branch and the people are nice. Really helped me get to know the brand.

For their sofas, I'm on the edge because they are comfortable but design-wise, not my cup of tea. I also don't see the appeal of movable/adjustable back-seating. But this is all personal preference.

You'll definitely get better value when you compare the local manufacturers against imported brands. The premium you pay is probably for the extra warranty, original design, metal frame (for King Living at least) and better advertising.

I'm currently looking at fabric mainly because I've used a leather sofa for the past 10 years and would like a change of look (fabric is cheaper as well). The funny thing about leather is that the more expensive the leather is, the less 'durable' it is. Which is converse to fabric, whereby the expensive ones tend to be more durable, have stain protection, etc. So if you get the basic or mid-tier leather, then what you say is true, maintenance is pretty easy and you can just wipe stains with a wet tissue or something similar.

If you have rowdy kids/pets or are a bit clumsy, I wouldn't recommend the aniline leather though, especially if you like the lighter colours. Although undoubtedly really really nice, unless you treat the leather with some form of protection upfront (which may darken the colour a little), the leather will display virtually all battle scars such as water marks, scratches, colour bleed from clothes, and others. Some actually like to have this on their leather products but some don't. Just something that everyone should consider if you're dead set on the aniline leather from Tekni.

Another thing to consider in more expensive and softer leather is that it tends to stretch the more you use it. So depending on sofa design, you may get the dreaded 'folds' on your sofa, whereby the leather looks loose.

TL;DR: The nicer the leather, the more the maintenance. Fabric is the other way around.
*
Thanks for the heads up and summary on the pros and cons of fabric vs. leather.

I didn't know the cheaper the letter, the more durable it is. Which really blwos my mind. But I do love the look of aniline though, the creases and all. I've seen sofas that are made of leather that are 'perfect', i.e. dont have created, it's just smooth surface, and I'm not a fan of the look.

Though. The dreaded 'folds' do put me off a little. Was planning to get a cat but that plan's probably out of the window since I'm deciding between aniline and fabric. Both super susceptible to scratches and water stains, and such.

Anyways, please let us know which sofa you end up picking! Maybe it'll help in my indecisive sofa journey ha.
